New Name?

Hey, so I came to terms with the fact that I'm trans a few months ago. I was born with a gender neutral/masculine name, but it feels too feminine to me now because it's always been used with "she"/"her" pronouns. Anyway, I've been trying to come up with names that suit my personality and feel right.

I want to avoid typical "trans" names, and I came up with a list of a few that I think might work well. Opinions/thoughts? Also, if you have any other name suggestions or combinations, please let me know!

  • Montague (Monty) Merlin Rxxxx

  • Calum Montgomery Rxxxx

  • Markus (Mars for short) Montgomery Rxxxx

  • Markus Ridley Rxxxx

  • Ashton Montgomery Rxxxx

  • Ashton Ernest Rxxxx

  • Montgomery Merlin Rxxxx

  • Markus (Mars for short) Merlin Rxxxx

Potential nicknames: Monty (for Montague or Montgomery), Ash (for Ashton), Cal (for Calum), Mars/Mar (for Markus), Rid (for Ridley)

Hello and welcome.  I removed your last name (substituting Rxxxx) in the interest of privacy.

So just because your current name has been linked to female pronouns is no reason to jettison it.  I kept my birth name although I had used a nickname for years (its gone now forever).  It would be easier (IMO) for family and friends to adjust to pronouns than name and pronouns,  It was easy for me.

You might consider names that suit you without the added issue of a nickname sit just adds to the confusion (again IMO).  I don't know how old you are but you might search on popular names for your year of birth to get an idea of what was popular and what was in use, as the list will be quite long.

Welcome again, Jani

Thank you for the advice! I really appreciate it, but my birth name contributes quite a bit to my dysphoria because of the mental link between the name and femininity, which is why it's pretty important to me that I change it.

Thats fine, just an idea.  When I was younger my name freaked me out but once I transitioned I found it worked and I was comfortable enough with it.  I would caution about "trying out" names with family or friends as its's bound to confuse them about your seriousness.  Names are highly personal so make sure YOU are the one who picks it.  Try writing the name (long hand and typing) you would like and see if it seems natural to you.   When you are thinking about activities for your day use the name in your thoughts.  You also might ask your parents what name they would have chosen if you had been born male.
