16 months or 1yr on hormones

Hello All:

Wanted to share that I have been on hormones it self for a total of 16 months now.  But as of June 22nd, I have been on what I call the real hormones with the injections for a year.  Short background is that I started on hormones January 2018 and I started on patches for my delivery.  From January to June I was having problems even getting my estrogen to do anything.  My E only went up from the very beginning from 23 to 28 in a 6 month period.  By June, it was pretty ridiculous where I was applying 4 patches on me at a time and nothing was happening.  So June is when I talked to my doctor and that was when we officially switched me from patches to injections.  Once I got on injections, my E really took off.

Now 1 year later, I am still on E and the dosage I have been on has been pretty good up till recent where I am no longer feeling like I am floating on a cloud when I inject myself.  So after seeing my doctor today,  We have now made a huge change to my hormones dosage and it is where she is starting to blast me. My doctor said that 200 is alright and it's ok, but she would really like to see me in the high 300, low 400 for my estrogen.  So now we have upped my estrogen from (ok dose) to (higher dose).  We have re-put me back on progesterone, this time we are doing the other progesterone from the last one I was on and the dose (average).  Then we cut my Spiro in half since my T is doing wonderful where it has been bouncing between 11 to 23 and so since I have 1 kidney and want to keep it healthy, we have cut my spiro in half and hoping to wing me off of Spiro and seeing if we can just use Estrogen to also control the Testosterone level as well.  I am lucky that I had a partial Orci and so my T was already low and it takes very low does and 2 weeks to drop and kill off my T.  My Fesenteride as been increased as well.

My doctor wants to see me in 4 months but now she wants to get intermittent Labs inbetween session with my doctor to just see how I am doing on the labs and if we need to adjust my hormones before seeing her again.

I like how my doctor taking it slow but now is blasting me but yet wants to keep a close eye on me, since I have a higher chance of cancer with not just the hormones but since I have had cancer in the past, that put me in a higher risk.  So have to really watch and pay attention.  We then also talked about my mammogram and that I am clean and normal.  My doctor likes and agrees with yes, start my yearly mammogram now and for the rest of my life and to do my self exam every other month.  I told my doctor about how excited I was when I saw my breast filled out and how I started to feel myself up and play with my own breast and she liked that cause that is kinda of a self check and also making me excited and getting off when playing with my own boobs.  Sorry about the mental picture there.  But at least I am doing fine and were blasting me even harder now at my 1 year with injections.

I know that everybody is different and no ones transition is the same.  I am glad to have been on a OK dose for a year while making sure no cancer and now we are bumping me up and blasting me harder.

That is great news Amy. Another positive for you.

I am very pleased its all getting sorted. I have never had the injections. The patches alone worked better than i could have dreamed. I never had high T anyway. So no Spiro for me But Everyone is diffrent and the injections are for you and are doing a proper job then awesome.

We should go for check ups on a regular basis anyway.  I have my bloods done once a year regardless of my health as Hormones do give us more risk factors. So keep checking your potential problem points Amy most of all keep your chin my Girl. follow your own Yellow brick road and you will reach your Oz.

Thank you @Maid In Bedlam.  Yes I have to agree that were all different when it comes to the hormone administrating.  Patches work for you so that is awesome.  Patches did nothing for me but injections are working awesome.  Oral works for others.  sublingual works for some.  So it is just a matter of what works for the person.

I am just glad that I have went from the patches to the injections and that the injections are doing wonders for me

If that happens, a lot of things I don't want to see might also be codified into law.  And some things that shouldn't be law might not get repealed.  To me, progress in one area isn't worth the price we'd have to pay in several other areas.     For me, voting on LGBTQ issues always ends up as an "out of the frying pan, but into the fire" sort of event.

Trying out a new wig. Got my reading glasses on. I've also got dark roots now - first time in years.

Thea, your post made me think of a comic named Chloe Petts whom I saw recently on Hannah Gadsby's Gender Agenda comedy special on Netflix. She is a cisgender masculine lesbian. She is brilliant and so funny. I was intrigued by her identification - specifically masculine, not butch. And it seems to me there is a difference.

Today I had a dr appt. When I checked in, I was asked my surname, which I gave. Apparently there were two patients with appointments at that time with that same surname. The receptionist asked, "Are you (my legal name which is feminine) or Paul?" I got such a kick out of it not being assumed I had the feminine name.

That must have felt affirming, albeit perhaps weirdly so. However, I'd construe that more broadly (no pun intended) as sexism rather than misogyny where the latter would imply contempt. Also, incidentally, I've heard chivalry referred to as "benevolent sexism".

My boss is in a panic. His business is a couple straws away from breaking a camel in half. He's just handling the stress very poorly.   My dad, though. He's handling things pretty well, as long as I continue to don't get massively offended by being called: son, boy, etc. His eldest is leaving the State and looks so different than he's been used to over the years. I haven't told him I'm on HRT, but to be fair the changes haven't been massive. I've always had boobs, more so after COVID weight gain and made more obvious with its loss, but now I'm not hiding them--and obviously wearing a bra. The estrogen has done some work, but nothing major (sadly). I think the biggest HRT changes have been my skin and a mild amount of fat redistribution.   Today I'm wearing my cheater, I almost have cleavage! :D I need to get another t-shirt bra to keep a good rotation. I only have two, one push-up, and the rest are unlined (great for Summer, but not great for my Summer wardrobe ).

I eat a ketogenic diet and have had no problems. I don't know about your case but I suspect it is the estrogen. Research the types of ways to take estrogen. Pay close attention to the bloodwork results. If they are not satisfactory, bring it up with your doctor. I take injectables, which are fully covered by insurance. It may not be the route for you, but something to consider. I emphasize to do your research and good luck. You can solve this. Be persistent.    Jennifer

I'm in a magenta blouse under a baby blue buttoned cardigan - still a little cool here in the northeast today - with dark blue jeans. Oh, and my favorite flame colored copper feather earrings.

This is my opinion, so take it for that. Fatigue is based more on what you eat. Eat a more healthy diet, and stay away from ultra-processed foods and that should help. Think of eating the way we did a couple hundred years ago before the industrial revolution. It's just a thought.   Jennifer

Welcome back, Jennifer! As a relative newbie to the forum and to transition, I look forward to getting to know you and share in your experiences.

I like the fact that you found support and have close members of your life. That is very important. No matter where you are on your journey, you have to have the support. Or you drift, and you question yourself.    Looking forward to your progress,   Jennifer
