Self image and inner voice

Most of my life I've been over-the-top self critical. My inner voice berated me nonstop over anything and everything.  I'm fairly certain the origins of that are familial, since I grew up in an environment of heavy criticism.

After seeing a link here recently about our inner voice, as well as working for years on trying to improve my self confidence and self esteem, it seems I'm making progress at last!

Today I finished a drawing (I'm alleged to be an artist) that came out nicely. But when I was nearing the end stages working on it, trying something a little risky, I actually said out loud "you've got this knocked girl."

That was a real first, not only in terms of having some confidence in my ability, but also in acknowledging myself as a woman.

It made me smile.

I just had to share.

It's so rare for me to see my female side in a positive way.

I'm stoked - have already set up a new sheet of paper and ready to start another drawing.

Thank you all for accepting me, making me feel welcome, and giving me encouragement and the courage to go forward!

Hi TammyAnne, Moments like these help assure us we are accepting of ourselves and no longer allowing the preprogramming from our past tell us who we are.  This made me smile too.?

Thank you for sharing this,

Susan R?

TammyAnne, that statement came from deep inside.  Its to be believed as its how you subconsciously see yourself.  Let her out to blossom and shine!   Confidence is empowering.

Cheers, Jani

A smile is a good thing!

I'm glad it resonated with you.

It's a long, tough road but yes I'm determined to let her out, to let her be free.

When I started this topic, I was struck by the similarity between encouragement and courage. I am finding the courage to let her "blossom and shine."

Have another drawing started, too!
