Coming out to my step-mom and family

My step mom and I have never really gotten along but we try. She cuts hair for a living, but now she is a stay at home mom because my little sister. I was still in the closet at the time I wanted to cut my hair and I asked her one day while we were driving home from school. "Hey, would you think it's weird if I wanted to cut my hair?" She told me no, but she wanted to she what kind of hairstyle I was going for, so I tried looking for a more masculine gender neutral hairstyle so I wouldn't out myself. Turns out the picture said something along the lines of 'Top 20 hairstyles for men' and she just looked at it and laughed, she laughed because she automatically thought I was lesbian and not a boy, (Which is not a bad thing to be lesbian, but I get really dysphoric when someone calls me a lesbian) She laughed and said she can't wait to tell my dad, which I pleaded for her to not, because my dad is old school military. So, that day I cut my hair myself (Miraculously it didn't look terrible) and I wore a beanie so no one would see, I did stare in the mirror with a smile because it felt so good to have short hair and start looking more like a man. That evening during dinner she told me to take off my hat, I hesitated at first then I did. I decided I kinda had to come out, which was terrible because now I get made fun of, but at least they let me shop in the mens section. School has been a huge support, and my therapist, my friends at school all call me Aidan, since it's a new school, no one knows my deadname.
