Nausea from gender dysphoria?

Belle

Recommended Posts

Over the last couple of days I have been getting nauseous when I start thinking about my gender incongruence. Today I looked at a picture of a really pretty shoe with a heel. Immediately I thought about how lovely it would be to wear a pair, then remembered I will probably never be able to. I started wanting to sob and feeling nauseous at same time. I had to go to the toilet but it didn't go any further.

It has happened several times today and yesterday from various things related to my situation. I have never felt like this from stress or anxiety before. I know it may just be a coincidence but there's a clear pattern right now.

Has anyone experienced nausea as part of gender dysphoria?

I have not gotten to a point where everything makes me nauseous but early in my coming out stage I did “worry myself sick” over telling my wife.  Like you I never actually puked but came closer.
Having anxiety over a gender issue that effects you physically is not a good nor a health state.  A very clear sign you need help from a GENDER THERAPIST not a marriage counselor.  Your dysphoria will not get better unless you start to at least understand it at s much deep level and then do something about it.  That “something” may be things you have already decided you just can’t or won’t do.
So you will eventually be faced with living as is and to continue torturing yourself over it or changing your situation to make yourself healthy.  Sorry hon. I know it’s tough love but I know what your going through and wish it wasn’t that way for you.
In my opinion you will never let these feelings go and it will continue fester and eat you up inside till you have no choice.  Married or not.  Your life is worth more then that.  Your Health is worth more then that.  Your mental health is worth more then that.  Hidden or not.  You are going to have to make some hard choices or lay down the law and tell it like it is.  I’m not saying leAve her but dang it this is getting really bad for you.
It is beyond not fair at this point.  It is getting to a physical break down.
I am afraid for you.

I've never experienced nausea over this but sadness, yes.  I think it may be part of understanding that as non-natal females we missed out on a lot of things growing up.  I can't go back so for me I look at it as water under the bridge.  I am here now and I try to make the best of it.  Try not to get worked up over these instances.  Try to see how you might make something similar work for you.

For example, my wife and I were out shopping today and I found several really nice articles of clothing.  She was going to buy me a couple things but I said no.  She still works and has more opportunity to dress up than I do (retired).  I said I would wait until summer to buy something I could wear frequently throughout the season.   So I got a raincheck for something that will be "me" that I can wear everyday.

I hope this helps.

Stress can be a creature of many faces, and I have had other Trans people tell me of it affecting their digestion and other things.  We have not had much of it here recently but when I first came here the Eating Disorders Forum was running heavily from time to time.  I am going to say the yes I have known of GD causing nausea, most of the time from anxiety and stress.  (Not to mention a virus infection or six.)  It would be an example of GD being insistent about its presence.

Considering the fact that MFT's and GT's all come from the same hen house (psychology practices) I will not dissuade you from going to a counselor who is not purely Gender Therapy, they may not have the whole answer but the can get you started on stress management which may be in addition to GD when it gets sorted out.  Another possibility is that you have something your family doctor needs to look into also, since ear infections and the like affect balance and dizzyness that causes nausea.

I have a GT. I have seen her three times so far, and will see her again Monday. She is LMFT-A, and has about 20% TG clients. But I'm not sure if she's officially a GT. I don't know the difference.

I guess it could be the combination of stress and a virus that isn't exhibiting any other symptoms.

If it persists for too long I'll ask a doctor.

There are no official Gender Therapists and no state or country who licenses Behavioral Health professionals to specifically be Gender Therapists.  The counselor who gave me my referral letters only had one other client that was Trans, he biggest effort for both of us was to get us sober and functioning, and his letters and that of his supervising M.D. / Psychiatrist were fine for my Endocrinologist, my surgeon and the insurance companies that carried their malpractice insurance.  I know a whole handful of Therapists today who work with Trans people and the biggest difference between them and the other types of therapists is going to conferences and professional enrichment seminars specifically with others who deal with Gender Identity issues.  The best thing though is they love helping people with gender issues and have interest in us.

happy trans birthday! I can't speak personally on the subject, but I hope hormones bring you the changes you're looking for <3

That’s super healthy, to see that something that becomes common has less effect on you and that you are able to decipher these feelings.   Sadly, this trend tends to only deaden good feelings as we tend not to let bad feelings attenuate the same way.   I have noticed less euphoria, but still feel the dysphorias that I have. Sometimes the good sneaks in and reminds me, but often time it’s just me seeing myself in the mirror and being comfortable about what I see when embracing my realized self. I may not get the same buzz I once did, but I don’t feel incongruous when looking at a more “drab” reflection.    Wishing you strength, you are amazing!

Congratulations! and Happy Trans Birthday @LittleSam! That is such a BIG milestone.  I can still remember walking out of my clinic with my first HRT presciption.  I was on Cloud-9.  Wishing you all the best in the start of your new Journey!

Meet him at the being good to others part of Christianity. At the heart of it, there are excellent tenets of the faith. Those that condemn are judging, Jesus would have us be selfless; stone casting and all that. Are you a good person? Are you putting good into the world? If your gender is an issue for God, let God judge. In the mortal realm, let your actions be heard.

Let’s stick to cite-able fact. Most of my posts have been directly in relation to LGBTQ+ rights as it pertains to P2025 and I have drawn direct links between people, their quotes, and their agenda. I have made reference to the cronyism that P2025 would entail as well, by gutting, not cutting, broad swathes of government and replacing it with “conservative warriors” (I can get you the direct quote, but rest assured it’s a quote). All this does is constantly force the cogs to be refitted, not their movement. To say that agencies have directly defied a President is a bit much, the EPA did what Trump told them to do at the direct harm to the environment, the department of agriculture did the same by enacting the administrations forced move to KC which decimated the USDA.      How about Betsy DeVoss for Education? Or Bannon for anything? What about the revolving Chief of Staff position that Trump couldn’t stay filled? Or the Postmaster General, who did much to make the USPS worse?   Let’s not mix politics with racism, sexism, or any other ism. Because Trump made mainly white, male, appointments—many of them not, arguably, people fit for service—or unwilling to commit to term. I can argue this because, again, he’s up for election and will do what he did before (and more of the same, his words).   Please delineate how the selected diversity appointments have negatively affected the US, other than being black, women, or queer? Representation matters and America benefits when its people are inspired and empowered.

When I first started figuring things out, I got a lot more euphoria. Every time a friend would use he/they pronouns for me, I'd get this bubbly feeling, and seeing myself look masculine made me really happy. Dysphoric state felt more normal, so I guess I noticed the pain it caused me less.   Now, it's more just that my pronouns and such things feel natural, and dysphoria is a lot stronger -- I know what's natural, so experiencing the opposite is more jarring than everything. The problem is, most of my natural experiences are from friends, and I rarely get properly gendered by strangers, much less by my family. I've found myself unable to bind in months due to aches, colds,, and not wanting to risk damage.    It partially makes me want to go back to the beginning of my journey, because at least then I got full euphoria. I'm pretty sure it'll be like this until I medically transition, or at the very least get top surgery (you know all those trans dudes online with tiny chests? Not me, unfortunately). It's a bit depressing, but at least I know that, eventually, there's a way out of this.

Major mood, right here ^^^    I've listened to Lumineers to a long time (a major portion of it by osmosis via my mom), so that is almost painfully relatable

As for getting a button-up/formal pants suit, you can try to talk to her more -- Cis women in tuxes have worn tuxes in recent years, after all, (for example, Zendaya) so it can still be a relatively safe topic. For jumpsuits, I'd recommend going with a simple one with a blazer, if you can -- this'll make it look overall more masculine. There's a lot of good brands, but going for one without a lot of extra glitz on it will make it look less feminine under a blazer. I don't know many specific brands though since I usually just get my stuff from chain stores, sorry :<   When it comes to your hair, if you can't cut it, you can look up tutorials on fluffing it up instead. If you can pull it off, it can look a lot shorter and more androgynous instead!
