Scared After Shot

You know how everybody always says "never use the same needle you draw with to inject?" For 8 months I have used two different needles. TODAY I decided not to do that. I dunno if it was the dull needle (I actually hope that's all it was) or that I hit a vein (which is what the doc at the urgent care thinks) but I have never actually seen a serious amount of blood till 30 minutes ago. :(

I'm scared.

I'm still scared.

Yes I ran to the urgent care like a screaming mimi and I don't care.

I want somebody to hug me.

Ainsley if you laugh I'll kill you.

Advice for the day folks? Use the two needles. Inject in your backside.

Oh, Evan,

Calm down, if it was really a serious problem don't you think that your twin would have felt it - well I didn't so you are OK.

Now just relax, I'll give you a nice hug and mybe just slap you on the back of the head once or twice and then I'll get the cookies.

A nice treat should help calm you down. :)

You always have your twin sister to take care of you. ;)

Love ya,

Sally

Hey Evan,

I hope that you are feeling better - blood loss is bad :( Now that you are back from urgent care it is a good excuse to eat lots of steak tonight to replace your iron :P You can snack on Sally's cookies until the grill is fired up - I remember Ainsley telling me he is a grilling machine. We'll get you patched up in no time!

Awwww...Ev. I won't laugh at you. If you saw how I react to injury, you'd know that I have no room to even chuckle.

You just bumped a vein on the way out. I've heard of it happening to a lot of people. Every month or so someone posts on one of the FTM groups on Yahoo about the same thing. As long as you didn't get blood in the syringe when you pulled back, it's all gravy. You're fine! I bet you have a bruise though.

So far the worst that has happened to me is that I moved while the needle was still in my leg. Man...you do NOT want to be flexing those quads with a long needle stuck in there. Oh how it hurt! I was limping for 4 days afterward because of it. Now I sit really still while I do my shot!

Know what else I do? I use teeeeeeeeny little 27G needles that are 1 1/4 inches long. It takes forever to do the shot, but there is less of a hole to bleed if I nick something.

It's okay, man. Cool out. We are the anxiety brothers! I'll fix you some steak and kebabs.

Relax Evan, there will be plenty of cookies, but if you would like I could chicken fry one of those steaks. :)

Evan relax you just hit a vein, trust me I've done it a few times. no need to worry and yes you still got you T. I inject with 22 1 1/2 inch needle. I find that injecting in my thigh is harder than my rear but i still rotate. Be Cool my man, be cool.

You actually use two different needles? I've never noticed a difference one way or the other.

But . . . I did nick a vein probably only a couple months into doing the shots. Let me tell you. It wasn't the sight of the blood 'cause I used to cut. And that never bothered me. It was the idea that it was totally unintentional and it looked like more blood than I'm used to. I nearly passed out. I have never had that happen before. Which now explains how I'm always putting off my injections.

Relax. It's all better now.

(And I didn't even laugh. Talk about will power.)

Chicken fried steak is good for what ails you as long as it isn't high cholesterol or clogged arteries. :D

I eat them all of the time and I am as healthy as a horse and quite nearly the same size! :o

I actually winced at reading that. D: I think I'm a little spooked that I'll hit a vein, but I'm just paranoid. Feel better <3

I always use the same needle, and it's never happened to me in over 4.5 years of injecting - so I don't think it's actually related to using the same needle. I have heard of this happening to other people over on livejournal though, and everyone seems to be okay afterwards. Like Ainsley said, as long as you don't get blood in the syringe when you draw back you're okay. Even knowing that, I'd probably freak out if I ever bleed substantially, so your reaction is normal.

No words of wisdom to offer 'cause I'm not on T yet. I hope you're feeling a little calmer and better by now. I don't usually do hugs, but I'll make an exception for you. ::hug:: From what the others are saying, sounds like you're gonna be OK (for which I'm thankful). Take care of yourself, now.

Unless you use perfect technique every time, you're going to see some blood. And once in a great while you will bleed more than usual. But it's almost always a matter of technique, not a blood vessel. You see it's very easy to mess up technique, especially when you're injecting yourself. What happens is instead of going straight in, your arm moves like a pendulum and the needle cuts you on the inside.... resulting in bleeding. With perfect technique, going straight in, there should be little or no bleeding.

So don't freak out.

Sometimes our poor technique results in more blood than usual.

Concentrate more next time on keeping the needle going straight in.

Hope this helps.

For the record I've been injecting for 5 years now. Oh and I only use one needle. The syringes I use come with a 22g needle so there is no reason to change it. Some syringes come with a 25g needle and YES that is too small to inject with and you have to change the needle. As long as everything is kept sterile (swapping the vial's rubber stopper with an alcohol pad) one needle is okay.

What happens if you inject into a vein instead of the muscle...

It is not dangerous, instead of the slow release the muscle injections give,

you get a fast release over a few days time, clearing your system quickly.

And lots of blood after, well it happens.Just make sure you put pressure on

the injection site for a few minutes to stop back flow.

Angie

If you inject T into a vein, there is much badness (which is why big, manly, hairy Evan was scared...I'd have been too). It isn't the T. The problem is what it is suspended in, oil. The oil is really thick. It can travel in your bloodstream and cause a stroke. With the amount of T we inject, it'll almost certainly cause a stroke. That's why we always check that there is no blood in the needle before we go for it.

The chances of that are quite slim. You see when you are taught how to inject, they always teach you the following step:

Aspiration

What's that?

Right after the initial needle stick you pull BACK on the plunger and check for a blood return. If you get a blood return you do NOT inject. You pull out and try another spot.

If there is no blood return... then it's okay to go ahead and push the plunger forward.

Before using an injectable always recieve training in proper injecting technique from a medical person.

Always, always, always, aspirate. It was only because I was sure I had that I didn't think the testosterone went into a vein. (<--of course I wasn't "sure" about that till after I flipped out but thats cuz I'm a worrier. Ask Ainsley, he'll give you the rundown) Still I was concerned I did some kind of bad thing cuz it was a whole teaspoon of blood in like 3 seconds. NEVER seen that. I always worry if I even see more than a drop. (it's the next day and I'm givin myself the shakes rememberin it...oh geez)

3 things to do. And I won't list em cuz it'll sound like I'm tryin to give instructions on how to give a shot but aspirating is in the big three.

As for the low blood iron thing, amazingly enough I used to have that problem :) T increases your red blood cells and raises your blood count. Some peeps run the risk of developing polycythemia-too many red blood cells - for me, since I started out so low all it did was give me a really good blood count.

And Leo? lol didn't anybody tell you I can go from 0 to "baby" in 6.6 seconds flat? Especially if there's girls who want to nurse me ;)

I've seen his 'baby' act and it attracts 'helpful' ladies from miles around - he never mentioned the attention he recieved from the female personel at the urgent care center, did he?

Sally

I saw this concert in which it is said that the famous phrase of Jon Landau "I saw the future of rock and roll and his name is Bruce Springsteen" comes from that night. By the way Bruce opened for Bonnie Raitt that night and she was the better performer . . . just sayin'.

Astronomy and astrophotography.  I have done a few public presentations on the subject and could most likely wing it for an hour without putting you to sleep.   On the other hand if you need a sleeping pill, I could also talk for an hour about flying and you'd be out cold.

Please consider joining us, even if it's just for a few minutes to see what the meetings are like. I've learned so much, had so much fun and gained confidence in myself just by being a part of this amazing group of people. It's a low key, no pressure, non-judgmental chance to just be among people who are supportive, understanding and affirming of each other.    I'm travelling out of state and still planning on dropping in for awhile.    Come see what it's like!!

Thank you, Susan!! It was such an amazing experience for me. I can't remember if I even talked about it on a Zoom meeting.   Here is the link to the post I made about it. And, again, thank you for helping to give me the courage to do it.

Good morning coffees   This probably doesn’t exactly apply to me because you wouldn’t have found a more shy and conservative person than me.  I was perhaps less shy before my sister started complaining about me doing things that were hers to do. And I would become embarrassed and that was the end of that.   upstairs unit got their typical weekend visitors in the middle of the night last night.  They woke me up.  They have little consideration for being in a condo community and the neighbors being in such close proximity.   @awkward-yet-sweet , how goes the job with your husband’s boss?  I don’t recall you saying much about it this week, but I could have missed a post along the way.  If I recall you were supposed to meet with him last Monday.   @KymmieL I hope you are feeling better.     Yes, I find it to be wrong that just because a car part says Ford or Chevrolet on the box that same part with Lincoln or Cadillac on the box cost a lot.more.  I know there are differences in the upscale brands such as the engine and drivetrain in the Caddy and of course the interior fit and finish.  But it’s the same body with things crammed in the same way under the hood.     well, time to finish my coffee, fix my hair and made my way across the street to work.    willow

I read about her this morning. What a shame! She was beautiful and it seems she had a strong support system in place and could have had a wonderful life all to have it end like this. Such a waste. I truly hope the monster that killed her gets everything he deserves.
