There is no question that smoking while on hormones is very dangerous. If you are smoking and taking hormones please stop. Transgender people tend to be heavy smokers more so than others.

This study seems more like a summary of various other studies, not something new. And most studies focus on Premarin (a conjugated estrogen), which most of us over 40 do NOT take. In addition most of these studies are for "estrogen and progestin" HRT. Notice they say progestin and not progesterone? The two are different.

I'm not saying these studies are not important. What I'm saying is they do not necessarily apply to transsexual women. The problem is nobody has ever done any good, long-term studies of us.

Smoking, however, is well established as leading to greatly increased incidences of DVT in our population.

After watching several members of my family die from smoking related cancer when I was a kid, I never found smoking attractive in any way.

The study isn't transgender specific. It did remind me of the dangers of smoking and hormones from a Doctor's personal warning years ago. I thought it was worth repeating. It does increase the risk of Deep Vein thrombosis. Thanks Leah.
