Swollen ankles

My ankles have been swollen for a couple of weeks or so.  I have been doing a lot of standing since my surgery, since sitting and walking were out of the question.  I am a little bit more active now, though my labia swell up if I overdo it.  And I can sit long enough to watch a TV show, which helps.  But it seems to be a choice between swollen ankles or swollen labia.

I know that swollen ankles can be a sign of a DVT.  So how worried should I be?  "Hope it will go away" worried?  "See your doctor as soon as you can get an appointment" worried?  Or "get your butt down to Emergency, virus or not, right now" worried?

My spouse asked, "How old are you... which we looked up... and do you have a history of heart issues and/or circulatory problems?" If you do, at least a call to your doctor is probably a good idea.

Hugs!

Swollen ankles aren't ok. You could end up with DVT at worse or have lose of sensation in your feet and lose the ability to walk. I highly recommend soaking your feet to your ankles in cold water or put ice packs on for 10min intervals of pack on pack off, to reduce the swelling. You can also use tiger balm to relax the muscles in your ankle. I would see a doctor anyway, if possible, since it's been a couple over a week. Also when resting, keep your feet elevated so the blood as and easier time moving. If you are comfortable massaging your legs, always move up the leg when rubbing your legs, foot to ankles to knee and up to the hip. When massaging anything or anybody, it's important you rub towards the heart, never away.

Run this one by your doctor, but if you have been taken off of Spiro, it could be the culprit.  I have been Post Op for 7.5 years and take the stuff for my high blood pressure.  Two years ago I became dehydrated during two Pride events and a little bit of kidney problem kicked in and I was taken off the Spiro to get my water levels back up and my ankles swelled up like a pair of elephant feet until I was allowed to go back on.  DO run the swelling through your doctor. Do not be disappointed if he puts you back on it.  The ankle swelling can be the sign of something dangerous.

Thanks everyone.

@VickySGV, I've been off spiro for over a year, so that's not it.  I was on cyproterone for the last year before my surgery, and it is not diuretic.

But I hear the consensus: I'll make an appointment with my doctor tomorrow.

Hi @KathyLauren, standing for extremely long periods will definitely cause swollen ankles and high sodium content with it can also cause this. Some medications can have this as a side effect too. Let us know what you find out.

I’m sure you’ve tried everything but what happens if you lie on your side with a contoured Orthopedic pillow between your legs? Does this help at all with staying off your feet or does it increase the pain from the surgery?

I'm glad to read this having had similar issues.  I'm taking a mild diuretic and it has helped the discomfort of swelling a great deal.

This getting older has meant some additional medication for me.

Hugs,

Charlize

That's great @MaeBe hopefully the company will offer your wife a moving package with the new job position. That's how I was transferred from the St. Louis Metro area to the Indianapolis Metro area. The company covered all the moving expenses, as well as a three week stay in an extended living hotel while we chose an area to build our current home.   Good Luck and make it a happy adventure.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

@Birdie is the day care in charge of your MyChart, Hospital, and Doctors as to how you are cared for? There has to be some way to prove that you were born intersex and have a choice on your chosen pronouns. I wish we could do more for you. Keep pushing forward.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

That's nice. I have bought all my stuff through Best Buy because I love the customer service.

The Republicans are not interested in compromising.  Johnson will be gone for compromising unless the Dems help him out.

Biden campaigned as the master negotiator, able to push legislation through Congress.   Whatever bill a Dem president, a Dem Senate, and a Rep House can agree on might be  more palatable than a bill with a R president, R Senate and R House given present attitudes. They are throwing away a chance.

A bill like this would never get through congress, even if it were allowed to be voted on.

Ha, that's funny - I swear this is the one I used to use in high school to get around school blockers and play games. 😅🤦‍♀️   Though I'd be wary of using a free VPN today, if your only intent is bypassing censorship, I guess it works. Proton VPN also has a free tier with a limited selection of countries/servers. I feel more comfortable recommending them as they actively try to fight censorship with new evolving VPN protocols, and they protect your privacy. They are also directly funded by their paying customers. So there is really no downside to using their free tier over another free VPN that may not have the same goals/values.

That sounds pretty accurate. I'm just glad I don't use Windows anymore, as I basically consider Windows itself a virus/malware. Backups can absolutely save you from some types of malware like ransomware. However it's ideal to just not get infected by having smart browsing habits. It's been said, and very accurately so, that the best antivirus is you - even the best antivirus isn't 100% accurate in detecting bad stuff, if you go out looking for that stuff or browse carelessly.   I guess if you don't care and/or don't have sensitive data on your PC, then that's fine I suppose. I personally care a lot - personal accounts, private messages, and even my very presence on this site aren't necessarily things I want to be public knowledge. 🤓🫠

Yes he is. Sorry it has taken so long. One sick kid and the other has needed my attention more than usually.
    • MaeBe
Sure is! Is he good with the kiddos?

Once again the Biden admin ignores Congress and issues a regulation that can be quickly changed. It would be much wiser if they worked a bill through Congress that became law.

I think that is the camera on the floor. Of course the kids aren't picking up after themselves oh well. He sure is big for only being 6 months old.

Love the look! "What are you doing with that shiny thing!?"
