Dehumanized

For those in the trans community, something that seems small and insignificant can be a huge deal. Something as simple as pronouns can lift us up, or tear us to the ground. So when you tell someone what you are, only to be called an 'it', as if you're not a person, it isn't funny, or a small thing. It feels like you're being stripped not only of your identity, but of your very humanity. And when those you called your friends laugh as if it's simply a joke, as if it's something to be taken lightly, it can form a deep, dark hole deep inside. It can make you feel like you're the joke to them. So to all of you out there, who have been stripped of your humanity for the sake of a single comment or a joke, just remember, you're not alone. There are others like you out there, others who understand how it feels. How it feels to have your humanity, your rights, and your voice to be taken away simply for being you. For those of you struggling to keep going because of this, remember that we have your back. Remember, that despite what they've done, you're still you, you're still human.

Just experienced a dehumanizing experience about 10 mins. ago. How fitting that a topic comes up that expresses my exact feelings right now. A new neighbor moved in down the street and walked by our place. She already met my wife last week so as she walked past she said, Oh! Hi [my wife’s name]! It’s nice to see you. My wife responded, “Nice to see you too.”  I was standing there apparently completely invisible so I said, “Hi, We haven’t met...what’s your name? She responded, “Penny”. I said, “I’m Susan” and she gave me a completely undeserved evil eye and turned around like I had just spit at her. She walked away as fast as she could. Apparently, news has spread around the neighborhood and she has already made a judgement about me.  Not much I can do about it either.

Sometimes even a look can make you feel like you’re worthless. Despite my acceptance of myself it still hurts when someone I meet treats me less than human. OK, glad I got that out...sometimes just telling someone helps.

Feeling alittle down,

Susan R?

I wish i could say i've never experienced the feelings described above but perhaps because i have it makes it better when others express it.  Fortunately it seems that over time my skin is getting thicker and what was once devastating has become a stubbed toe, bad at the moment but fading away quickly.....obviously not too badly stubbed.

Hugs,

Charlize

Hi Zay!  nice to meet you and Welcome!

You bring up a good point, and unfortunately, this is the sad reality of Life.

There is a large portion of humanity who don't understand the basic foundations of Life (fortunately I believe they are the minority).  Because of this they are inherently unhappy, but to cover up their unhappiness they seek out others to discriminate against (thinking if they can put down somebody else, it will elevate themselves) ... and anything that appears to make somebody "different" in their eyes is an easy target.

(just like your neighbor @Susan R .. that is truly hurtful .. but happy you feel better ❤️)

Our community has become the "easy targets" nowadays.  We just need to find a positive path forward and not let others bring us down to their level or derail our own happiness.

This is a great place to connect with others, and share our positive (and challenging) experiences.  Hope to hear more from you in the future❣️

Hi Zay! Welcome. I agree with you completely.  We are still human. We matter.

I agree KayC. We can't let miserable people bring us down with their hatred.

Nope.  I live in a rural area.  Pride events are for city folks.  The normally quiet LGBTQ+ club kind of changes atmosphere during that time, and things get a bit political.  As a non-Democrat, I avoid it.

For me, definitely the size thing.  I'm 5'4" on a good day, and 100lbs.  I can pass as a teenage boy, but never for my real mid-30s age.  And since my husband looks older than his age, I'm often assumed to be his kid.  Or folks think there's something illegal going on.      Also, my lack of the typical aggressive "masculine" demeanor.  I don't really desire the typical masculine social role, nor could I do it even if I tried really hard.  I'm usually quiet and kind of timid.

I am sorry for your struggles. I cannot empathize, but I can surely sympathize. I wish only the best for you!

No, they are the only provider of services I need an my area. 😑

My size. A lot of guys aren't 5'3" at seventeen. My hands. It's a less noticeable one, but my hands are very "feminine"? If you know what I mean. My voice. Very high-pitched. I don't just sound like a female, I sound like a little girl sometimes My chest. I've had to stop binding due to frequent aches doing so, and it's not nearly small enough to just cover with baggy clothes My family. They still call me she/her, so that's an automatic out. My anxiety. I might be able to pass better if I had the courage to correct people. Instead, I'm too scared to speak up, so I find it hard. My lack of men's clothes.   Anyone else have these problems, or other ones?

From what I have read and heard most people are so.busy with their everyday lives and either looking at their phones or in a hurry to notice you out and about.

This exactly ^^^   I actually really liked games where I was required to play a male character. It felt homey, in a way.

Anyone play war and order on their phones?
    • violet r
I can relate.  I have always played a female character when given the opportunity. Not really and reason except I just alway pick them since I was young

Yes, our little town is having its 3rd annual Pridefest. I've volunteered the first two years  from setup to tear down (though I do take an hour off to eat and drink in the middle).     Then I attend a bigger one a couple towns over that has had some decent entertainment from some semi-famous folks (Laura Benanti, Patrick Wilson, Carmen Carrera, Judy Gold, etc).    This year I made sure to ask off of (weekend) shifts to attend a 3rd one where a group I'm in is in the parade.

Hi Vicky, I agree with you, so far since the time I've been under the new treating doctor's care, she prescribed me medication, but it's for children lol  luckily  my pharmacy warned me from a phone call not to take the medication.

Welcome to the party, M.A.     Sounds chaotic haha, I can confidently say that living with only two children the same age is stressful enough, much less three!
