Beginner Makeup Advice?

@Jackie C. The "white-out" Comment had me in stitches!   I feel the pain!  That's me in winter but I'm a "day walker" and tan an orangish color come summer.  Luckily, I'm freckled everywhere but my face, oddly they faded permanently after a couple seasons of roofing in my twenties.  The sun has done me no favors (it's not THATa bad but...)20 years of a beard however, saved the lower half of my face.  Problem is, there is now a notable complexion difference at my beard line and I'm certain it would call attention, should I ever go out without a mask.  I may never go out in public without a mask again, even if I never come out and boy-mode for the rest of my life...  Sublime!   I just need one damned girlfriend!   Don't get me started on the anxiety feel walking down the makeup isle.  What the hell does an orange girl do for foundation!?  Try finding that on YouTube.

Anyway, thanks for the advice, which I will take and the laugh, which was much needed.

Much luv

Tragically, that's me always. My "tan" is a scattering of small freckles, no closer than one inch apart or I burn like a magnesium flare. The sun is NOT my friend.

If you don't already, I'm also going to suggest moisturizer. It's a girl's best friend for maintaining a youthful and healthy appearance.

As always, the laughter is free. Glad you appreciated it sweetie!

Hugs!

@Jamie73  Samantha lux!  Luv her!  Speaking of YouTube, if you haven't seen Abigail thorne of philosophy tube's coming out video, it is a must see.  I re-watch it from time to time.

Without a lie most of the girls that attended the beauty courses at the local college qualified for this statement, you've just got a head start!

Seriously though you just need to choose what shade you want to match to and go for it. That difference is why so many women like using fake tan, because it creates an even base to build on.

If you decide it looks too much then make a note for the next time you go out and choose a tone up or down, and blend, not smear it on.

Like Jackie I just go straight to the palest "ivory" tone because I practically reflect the sun, and maybe move up one or two from there if I've been outside a lot.

None of the ladies I hang out with tend to do any daily makeup, a couple of them might do mascara and a bit of lip gloss, but they are mostly working mums and just don't have time for that!

I would also say to hydrate! Water helps your skin so much when it comes to being healthy.

I just discovered primer that was rec'd by a g/f, and as a painter you'd think I would have figured it out.

When I first heard about it in a YT video, I was like no that's a bit rich. But it may be good especially for (older) trans girls like myself who need some smoothing as well as something for the makeup to actually stick to.

I found I need two shades of foundation, one for face and a bit lighter for the neck.

As far as eyeliner, Urban Decay really has been the easiest to apply, and they make some cool sparkly shades of highlights which is hot right now.

For powder, LA Looks is actually bang for the buck as well as The Ordinary product line which is pretty much the same quality as the designer brands, but may come in a cheaper dispenser.

Samantha and her mother actually came to my last job to speak about the trans experience from a family perspective. If I recall, they visited three times before she got to the end of her talk. I think the first time there was a freak fire alarm and the second someone literally had a stroke in the audience. Witchcraft, you say? Could be... (But they're troopers--they came back and finished the talk after all.)

Gingers and freckles and white-out, oh my! Isn't it kind of wacky that girls will now draw the freckles back on their face after layering on the rest of the make-up? We get that for free!

If anyone has eyeliner tips, btw, I'm looking. I've officially tried make-up a grand total of once, and it was an amusing failure. The eyeliner got everywhere EXCEPT on the lash line.

Personally, I have to use a brush to get it to look right. I have had no luck whatsoever with pens.

I bought this set: Eyeliner Brush Set and use the small brush with the bent tip to apply gel eyeliner. With a little practice, it looks very nice.

Hugs!

Don't think Americans would go for the "compulsory" part. We kind of like not being told what to do ... Amazingly, there is great pushback on voter ID laws. The opponents say it discourages voting, especially among the poor and minorities. That is really a smokescreen IMO for those who want to harvest ballots from as many places as possible, including folks who don't exist or don't hold citizenship...

Pretty soon I think I might be ready to talk about gender-affirming care for kids, possibly w/r/t the Cass Review and its shortcomings.

She was a beautiful young woman ...   "What we do know is that the offender was a very violent individual and should not have been on our streets.”  Whether gender related or not, the mental health and incarceration issues in our country are incredibly bad and need to be addressed.

April,   I'm glad my entries are interesting to you.  TransCentralPA is a great organization with so many caring people.  I would strongly recommend you find a way to attend the Keystone Conference.  I guarantee you'll find it an amazing experience.     Hugs,   Sally

Dear @Sally Stone.  I think you should author a memoir based on these posts (maybe you're already working towards that?).  You could decide at a later time if/when you might want to publish.   I appreciate you sharing your deep connection with your friend Willa (and I am sorry for your loss) and the benefit of having a Trans friend and mentor in our Life and Journey.  I was fortunate to have found one also in our TGP friend @Kasumi63.   As you know we share many common Life themes in our stories.  Drop me a PM if you'd like to chat about it.  Looking forward to the next 'chapter'.

Voting is compulsory here, for better or worse. Would doing the same in the US snap people out of their apathy?

I am noting you use CRT terminology.  The comment is not out of the blue.  Some of your remarks on religion suggest atheism.  So it is believable that you are a Marxist, knowingly or not.  Are you?

Congrats to your family on the new addition!

Funny you think that I would be able to get through more than two sentences with how bad my stutter gets (joking, of course)   My topic would probably be mythology, random Japan factoids in my mind, or a favorite story   (Best option would be a fave story of mine including a lot of factoids on Japanese myths-)

Congratulations @ivy. Nothing beats a family growing two feet at a time!

I read each of your entries and learn so much. Thank you, especially, for the TransCentralPA info. I have been looking fora group and activities where I could express myself safely and with support. I missed this year's conference but next year might be possible and I am going to look at their other events, too.

I have read numerous accounts of trans folk no longer being welcome among evangelicals.   I am here for help and fellowship not to rebuke anyone.  I can take a pretty high degree of insult, etc., and you haven't insulted me, to my recollection anyway :) and I usually let it go.  But I thought I would let it all out there.   I am sure I disagree with you on numerous issues.  I appreciate other people's viewpoints, including those who radically disagree with me.  Intellectual challenge is good. One thing I appreciate about @MaeBe.
