Computers, The Internet And Paypal

i apologize in advance, i am beginning to think i will be best know for complaining here on laura's (i swear, i do it more here than in real life...lol..)

so........ you may know that i just bought myself a computer (my old one died after only 1.5 yrs, and i had been without for a while...)

i used paypal to order it, from dell online.

it took 10 days to process, which i was kinda ticked about since it said nothing about being back-ordered when i ordered it. and it took me contacting dell customer service 3 times for them to tell me that X and X piece were back-ordered.

so i finally go it 2 days ago.

and today i got something from my bank saying i had such and such a fee. so i looked, double checked my balance, and saw that the amount that paypal said they withdrew form my account was different than what was actually withdrawn.

and on my paypal account the order for my computer was charged twice......

and then to top it off, the computer i just got 2 days ago froze and crashed.............

right when i was looking at the paypal with the cost charged 2ce.......

yeah. hippies and all this new fangled stuff don't mix well....

i am not happy...now i have to go to the bank tomorrow, call paypal and dell......

*sigh* and i thought i could sleep in

sorry again for the totally pointless rant.

peace&love

Hey Leigh,

Don't worry about ranting - sometimes you just need to get things off your chest. I'm sorry about your computer and your account. There is nothing worse than than getting a new toy and having it not work - except maybe finding out you paid for the broken toy twice <_< I sympathize with your frustration. I hope it all gets worked out!

Hi Leigh,

I feel sorry for you and understand your frustration (to say the least) completely.

As you know, I'm based in France, and I prefer to use most stuff in English (or Dutch, but that is rare).

PayPal has the extremely annoying fixation on location (based on IP address). They do offer to switch the interface to English, but once you need help or want indepth information, English isn't available... Oh my goodness??

Since PayPal started in the US, I kind of expect English to be fully supported, but no, they refuse to supply you with anything in English, besides the very basic.

And like you, I have a payment problem to resolve and am forced to use French, which I'm still incompetent at. Well, ok, I manage to read at level of a 9 year old, and write worse. So... I hate to ask my wife for help for these stupid things that I feel I should be able to deal with myself, but I have to.

Mind you, it wasn't always like that, it's a fairly recent change. They changed it about the time they established a European HQ.

I hope you manage to resolve the problems, in the past PayPal were really good at it and quite fast... I'm not at all impressed with Dell, but that is my European experience, I never will buy anything from them...

As far as I'm concerned, you can rant all you want, it feels good to get it out of your system...

Good luck!

Hugs

We don't think of you as a complainer although the name Leigh is actually Lookout Everyone Incoming Griping Hippie.

I would stay away from Dell in the future - from personal experience any good ratings they have gotten must have been paid for.

I worked with a brand name freak who bought a Dell at the same time that I bought this Compaq - He is now on the third Dell replacement and I am still using this overloaded antique for all of my Internet work as well as my bookkeeping - never had the case open except to install a second hard drive - I complain when it does crash, not that often considering - but I always am thankful that it isn't a Dell!

My photo computer isn't a Dell either - a custom built Systemax from TigerDirect - works like a charm.

Love ya,

Sally

lol...you always know how to get me.

but yeah. i am beginning to agree about Dell, seeing what i can do about a refund...but it's hard to go against those big companies....we'll see.

and i'm closing the paypal account as soon as i have this sorted out...

thanks everyone

Being a computer tech i can second the notion to stay as FAR away from Dell as possible! Terrible machines...just terrible. Honestly, i would say Cyberpower (google it as i don't have the web addy on me) but that's where i bought mine. While it's a gaming rig site, they have very streamlined systems and i feel are very affordable. My gaming rig was around $600 which is amazing for what i got, and that was over a year ago. There are also sites where you can order parts yourself and build (if you are tech savvy) Newegg.com...etc anyway if you were in MY neck of the woods we could do that.. I love building pcs. Anyway, I hope everything works out for ya..and remember stay away from Dell.

OMG, Leigh!

I wouldn't touch Dell with a ten foot Pole...or a six foot Swede!

Junk!

I have a custom built rig and I upgrade all of the time...

I usually buy parts from Newegg like Melanie mentioned...

I put in a better sound card...video card...more ram...

No built in stuff like Dell uses...it's all modular...

And, I've heard lots of horror stories about Pay Pal....

But, I've been using it for years and never had even a tiny problem.....go figure!

Good luck, Sweetie!

Rule number one: If you're going to get a new desktop, get someone who knows how to build one do it. Don't go to Dell or any of those fools, because it's a waste of money

Rule number two: If you want a laptop, don't build it yourself. The kits for these are too expensive, and the main components come in those kits. Go the the business section of Dell, etc. and buy one from there. These ones cost more, but are designed to last 5 - 7 years instead of 1 - 2 years.

I had my surgery 11 years ago, and yes, I too find it much more of an urgent thing than it ever was before.  One possible culprit is going to be T blockers if you are still on them, also the urethral sphincter which holds the pee back is closer to the urethral opening now and more subject to stimulation. When we gotta go we gotta goooooo!!

I notice that the Wikipedia article does not mention the U.S.A. which I can understand a bit.  The entire month of June here is Pride Month for all the organizations and is tied to the 1969 Stonewall Inn riots in New York and also our medical authorities are also not tied as thoroughly to the WHO as they are to the American Psychological and American Psychiatric Associations which write the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health which is generally in line with the WHO which does not play as big a part in our medical practices here.  The WHO does not impact us the way it does the other world countries which is why we are in the dark about the day.  Ironically though, one of the U.S. States is named Idaho which sadly is one of the most conservative and frustrating to the U.S. LGBTQ Community.   The day is international though in the sense of other European and Southern Hemisphere countries it seems.

Hmm. Must have been that pesky 'International' word which made me assume that it was well known! I only became aware of it myself last year.   Brief history: May 17th is the day IDAHOBIT is acknowledged as it is the anniversary of when in 1990 the World Health Organization declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder. It was conceived in 2004 and first celebrated in 2005. It has gone on to include trans folk in 2009 and bi folk in 2015.   International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia - Wikipedia

A year and a half post op. I've noticed that once the urge to pee hits, I can only hold it for about 15 minutes or so until it gets to the point where I feel like I'm going to piss myself. I used to be able to hold it a lot longer (as I  remember it).  I know my urethra is a bit shorter now, but I don't think it is enough to account for this. Am I imagining it?

What a great moment @Vidanjali! It's always so cool knowing people are reading you in a way you want to be seen.

It's also networking.  Sometimes jobs come along because someone knows someone else - these older people might know someone.  "Hey, Ashley," someone might say,"My nephew is looking for love. He likes tall women. Whatcha think? Can he call you?"   Don't discount their ability to match make.  It is about networking.

He is simply doing to get more votes. He held a Trump for trans during his first run and found out the majority of his voters were against us so he simply followed the crowd.

The sad part is I'm the third oldest member. One is in their 60's and the other is past 70's. I'm even older than the president lol. It's a younger crowd that's for sure. I like to come here to feel young again lol.

Ashley, I think searching for relationships are a lot like searching for jobs, they tend to come along when you aren't actually looking.  Perhaps you could step back from actively searching, at least for a little while, and instead, concentrate on just being out and about as yourself.  Like Mae and Abby have already mentioned, just keep up your volunteering, but don't focus on a need to find someone.  Maybe, just maybe, changing your tactics will result in someone finding you.    I do wish only the best for you, and I hope someone comes along who connects with you.

First off, you can't regret being honest. You may not be changing the relationship, but it sounds like it still exists!   As for meeting people, what about through the volunteering you're doing? Maybe you can do more of that and meet people. Let some relationships grow and if they blossom into something more than friendship, great! If not, you've got more friends!

Hi Giz, welcome. There's so many different ways to be trans and you're so welcome here. I wish you luck in achieving your goal of being more androgynous. There's forums in here that might suit you and your goals. I look forward to hearing more from you. I go by he/they pronouns at the mo.
