Research Study: Society's role on the experience of trans* people

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I am a university student currently writing my dissertation on the role society plays on the experience of trans* people, and would like people to take part in a 15 minute (approx) interview about how different areas of society (family, social circles, work and education) have impacted them. I am available for interviews from now up until the 12th of January 2021, and you can book times with me through direct message. Please bear in mind I am in the UK and cannot do interviews past 8pm GMT.

For those who want to take part, interviews would be recorded, but purely so the conversations feel more natural! All recordings would be deleted as soon as they have been transcribed, and no personal information of yours would be used in my final paper. Short extracts may be used, but likely no more than a sentence or two.

I have emailed the moderators of this forum to ask for permission to post about this study and have ethical approval from my university; my dissertation means a lot to me and I want to do this right! For this reason you will also be sent an ethics form which you will have to sign, and you MUST BE 18 OR OLDER to take part.

As soon as my paper has been graded and returned to me it will be available for me to share publicly, so even if you don't want to take part but would like to read it, please message me and I will make a note. I will likely be posting it somewhere in the public domain anyway, but should you want an early personal copy I would be more than happy to send it! I hope that my study will contribute to knowledge in the field, and potentially bring to light the narratives of trans* individuals as well as rectify the language used in many previous studies that may now be considered offensive or outdated.

Please consider sharing elsewhere so I can spread the word! If you are interested, you can message me for more information and to read over the forms I have prepared.

Thanks for reading!

Kye

I think I would be willing to answer a questionaire but, that's about it for me. Good luck with your project. Are you sticking strictly to this forum or are you offering this on several different ones?

Kye, will you be doing these interviews by phone? Even to the United States? As for sharing your request for partisans. Do you have a twitter account? My guy mode account has 12K+ following and I would gladly tweet out your request. My Mmindy account is very small and locked for privacy until I'm ready to come out publicly, at which time I'll combined them and let my followers shed as they see fit. I openly support and retweet #LGBTQ subjects on my guy mode account so l'm happy to help you get your information out there.

Twitter Guy Mode @FirehouseMike

@MmindyMoore is locked but you can make a follow request, and all of my followers and followings are Transgender.

Best wishes, stay positive, and safe,

Thank you! It's okay if you're not able to interview, I understand that it's not an ideal format for some people, it's just the way I prefer to do things for my own research. Perhaps if I do further research in the future I will include multiple formats like questionnaires. I have only gotten permission to post to this forum so far, but if moderators allow me to post elsewhere I will. I'll post any updates if there are any!

Hi Mindy! These interviews will be done over software like Skype, Zoom or other similar platforms as costs for phone calls are quite high. I do have Twitter, if you would like to message me privately we can discuss sharing my post there :)  Thank you for your support, best wishes!

That's cool and shows my age... I didn't even think about video conversations. I'm okay with setting up a time to participate, and will PM you for Twitter contact.

Best wishes,

Sorry, I just broke out laughing. That's awesome Jackie.

Getting rid of Mr. Catheter was glorious. Well, not the removal part, that sucked, but afterwards (and not having to navigate the world with a catheter bag) was lovely. May the days pass swiftly until you can kick him out of your life!   Hugs!

Congratulations @ElizabethStar! I'm glad your wife is onboard. Also that the wall gets to be trans-flag colors. I think our flag is pretty too.   Oddly enough, my spouse and I had the same conversation last night. I was bawling at the end of Wandavision. My wife was dry-eyed. Well, somebody had to be the girl.    Hugs!

Wonderful news Elizabeth! The role reversal comment your wife made sounds like some my wife has made.   Delcina

Thanks, girls! I just got home from the hospital today. More like a smashed up cactus than roses, but we’re getting there! This week’s goal is to become friends with my catheter—my first boyfriend! Well, not really my first, but he’ll be in me all week, and I’m fighting the urge of just yanking him out. I go back to the hospital in a week to have him removed from my life permanently. I’ll have to reread that peeing thread then. Thanks again, everyone! It was nice having a place to moan when the going was tough! Kisses!

Jamie, i know it took my wife and family what seemed forever to get my name and pronouns correctly.  Give her time and appreciate any effort.  It's hard for everybody. We are getting what may be the last flops of sap for the year and since we have a great deal of ice I'm looking forward to a long boil and a lot more maple syrup to end the season with.  It has been a funny year with a great early start followed by a long deep freeze.  Soon the remaining snow will melt and spring will come.  Yea!   Hugs,   Charlize

I love this. But it is too bad he's an a-hole.

That is good news Elizabeth. I went , well, we went through some very rough territory when I first came out. trusting in each other and taking our time as we walked through this also helped. I would say it was a very dark place for her when I came out. I mean gosh, I just came out with this big surprise to the woman I've been married to for 24 years....well things worked out but it was not an easy road for either of us, but here we are still married, 45 years now. 21 years after I came out. All I can say is my journey didn't just include me, my wife joined in on my journey.
    • Jandi
Well, in that case, you're making it look good. I have resisted a wig.  But if it worked anywhere near that well, I'm in.
    • Charlize
That is fantastic Myles.  Enjoy a life where you can be yourself without fear of loosing your family.  Relax a bit.  I remember being exhausted after i came out to my wife and family.  So many emotions can really be a workout. Congratulations   Hugs,   Charlize

      Progress is good.

Good morning. Nothing special going on for me today and that is just fine for me. It is freezing outside and I just want to stay at home and be warm. I did try on some jeans, this time with a padded shaping brief and the look was perfect, no more man butt.  I did manage to go out into the freezing your butt off cold to feed the birds. Darn birds don't seem to care about how cold it is. So that has been the start of my day. So good, so far!!!
    • Drayse
Hooray! I'm glad to hear that there's progress! 😊
