Broad shoulders?

Madelyn

Recommended Posts

Hiya, so I'm wanting to start hrt soon. I had planned on it and was so close a few years back and things got way side tracked, long personal story. Anyways, I'm 5'8" but built broad. Broad shoulders, big feet (though narrow), thick torso around the ribs. I'm pretty fit, though losing size in general. I'm 170 lbs , somewhat lean muscular now, but losing the "last 10lbs" of little tummy. I want to get to 139 lbs though (which is acceptable for my height)

Did you notice broad shoulder and bigger rib cage area decrease with fat/muscle loss in general and/or from hrt?

I'm thinking a lot of it is muscle/fat in general that may give the broad masculine appearance. But then again, maybe just my skeletal structure. Suppose it could go either way.

Thank you!

Unfortunately HRT will not change your shoulders, or change your ribs. HRT will effect your body in other ways however you have to be patient the timeline and the changes very from  person to person because there are so many factors. It helps to have a knowledgeable Dr and have your levels checked regularly. I personally started off slowly in 2015, 6 years later my body is much more rounded, and I have put on some extra pounds due to HRT and aging. I am fortunate and developed a body(including breast) that I am happy with, the only expection is facial structure which hormones cannot change.  It was slow and most of the development came over the last year after.  HRT softened my skin and changed my facial appearance  slightly by adding some additional fat. As a bonus HRT stoped my hair loss.

The biggest change I had though was not physical it was the quieting down of the dysphoria, prior to HRT I was struggling to get through the day.  My wife insisted that I see a therapist at that point so I did and nine months latter I started low dose HRT without blockers.  HRT really helped me to function better, my wife also took notice of that fact.

The way I personally handle my broad shoulders is with clothing by bringing attention elsewhere. Knowing what body shape you have can help you in this endeavor. I still wear what I want I just make sure that it compliments my shape, accessories can also help.

Acceptance of the things I can't change about my body has been the most difficult. I continue working at it and making progress everyday.  Just remember that women come in all different shapes and sizes, some are tall, others are short and yes some do have broad shoulders. ? I Hope this helps and answers your questions.

Take care,

Jamie

Thank you Jamie and Gina for your replying to my question. I knew hrt wouldn't change my skeletal structure developed from testosterone, but suppose I'd hoped that hrt would reveal it was more muscle and fat distribution giving the appearance of being broad; as well as other areas. I suppose it's too many variables to tell at this point, so I shall see. Thank you again for sharing with me!

Hugs,

Madelyn

Yeah, HRT will affect fat distribution for new fat, but that's it. Once you've grown it, it's yours to keep. Though it does change your face, muscles, etc... in a lot of subtle ways.

However, I'm 5'11", 200 pounds (working for 180). I have broad shoulders and a women's size 13 feet. I am a glorious Amazon. Revel in your uniqueness. Be the best woman you can be and don't worry about anybody else.

Hugs!

After being on HRT maybe 4 or 6 months, I lost a lot of muscle and it was replaced by a little fat. Before that I had a very broad back and built shoulders, that is all gone.

Fwiw, I'm a bit taller than you but also have a VERY broad chest and shoulders. Back when I was living as a guy, men would be jealous of my huge chest and would ask me how I got it that way.

I used to laugh and say bone structure (whilst secretly dying inside lol)

My height (5'10") and my breadth (Rugby forward) means most people like to stare at me but my face, tits and mannerisms soon make them look away.

I used to be deeply hurt by the stares, but then -crap-, when do you often get a tall, very broad woman? Not very often.

All I'm saying is, there's nothing you can do about your bone structure so you've got to learn to embrace it.

With clothes however, tops with a low cut neck are really good as they draw the attention down and away from your shoulders.

Also long sleeves if possible. Long sleeves with a flare at the bottom.

Just from my experience, these type of tops really suit broad chested women.

You got this btw :)

It was stupid of me, the cop was in front of me in a u-turn cut in a spot I know about. I was running a little late because of the slow truck, and the cop happened to be there today. It is like one of only three places for a speed trap on my commute. I usually don’t speed as I try to leave enough of a time buffer in the morning.

The worst possible scenario is 4 points on my license, which a defensive driving course will negate it. I had considered getting a lawyer, but it is probably not worth the expense.

Yeah, I was puzzling on that too…

Good luck maam 😊 I’ve experienced that they’ll lower the points , if you show up in court and pay the ticket.

Welcome to Transgender Pulse Forums Mealaini,   Like you I knew in my preteen years that I was meant to be a girl, but didn't have any way to bring it up in the early 1960s. It was the expanding news outlets on the telly that allowed me to understand that I may not be the only person who felt this way. Wow was my mind expanded once the internet became a reasonable research tool in the 1990s.   My grown daughter (42) is nonbinary and atheist with pagan leanings. So when I came out to her she was thrilled and wanted to dress me up and show me the world. Well I think she wanted to show me to the world. My son (45) is evangelical christian and very upset with his sister for many reasons. However he's a reluctant supporter of me as transgender. I'm out to my wife and we've been married for 48 years this June, so I'm in a very late in life transition.   The other thing that has me going down an internet rabbit hole is your location. It clearly states United Kingdom with a sub flag of Illinois. I've searched the web and can't seem to locate Illinois, UK. Am I missing something?    Best wishes,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Thank you for sharing, @Mealaini, and welcome.    I appreciate your description of IFS and your book recommendation. I have a few close friends who are very enthusiastic about IFS and my therapist is incorporating some of those elements into my therapy.    -Timi

Leg hair.  Shaving it was a surprisingly big decision.  (Not as big as the beard tho)  After I did it a few times, it's never really grown back.  Haven't shaved them in a couple of years and you'd never know it.  A daughter living with me doesn't shave hers, and she is much furrier than I ever was.     I don't exactly hate my living as a guy in the past.  TBH, I was never quite there anyway.  But I just dropped it.  I live full time fem, and it would bother me a lot to go back to being a guy.  But I don't have to appease family or an employer.

@Loreleiit always sucks getting a ticket for passing a slower vehicle. I'm guessing the police officer was some distance behind you until you performed your passing maneuver. My most costly ticket was from a similar situation, however we were heading out of town and the last straight stretch of road to pass the two slower vehicles ahead of me was still in a 35mph zone. I didn't see the officer behind me and as soon as I pulled out to pass he turned on his lights and siren. Since I was in the process of passing, I figured the next safe place to pull over was at the upcoming roadside park. He didn't accept that and wrote me up for passing two gaps, speed in excess of 15mph over, and failure to stop. He did not care to hear about any fellowship in public safety, and no professional curiosities would be honored.  I did go to court plead my case and the judge, and he did see my point of continuing to pass with the intentions of pulling over safely at the roadside park. He was very familiar with the location. This allowed him to drop the failure to stop charges, but I did have to pay the full 15mph over speeding ticket. So my lesson learned was to never pass when entering or leaving a small town or village.   Hugs, and good luck in court.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
