Male privilege

I'm starting on mt journey and I want to know how many mtf transgender have experienced male privileges and where if you stayed male you could advance in your career much easier because you were part of the Good"Ol"boys club and now after you've transitioned your taken advantage of

Hard to say, I genuinely want to help out and I'm not really motivated by money so I've had a LOT of people walk all over me in my professional life. For example: My current "part-time" job features 50 hour weeks because I couldn't let one of our kiddos slip through the cracks.

So for me anyway, status-quo but a lot of male-privilege is transparent while you're getting it. It's only REALLY noticeable from the outside while you're getting passed over again and again.

On the third hand, my current industry is female dominated so I'm not sure if MP really exists at the level where I'm at. I was talking to a co-worker just last week who got passed over for a position in favor of a woman. He's fantastic and I think he'd do great in the position, but corporate had other ideas.

Hugs!

Being male never got me more money. Mostly because I didn't want the responsibilities that came with it. Before I transitioned I was offered a job at my old job. That ment four dollars more a hour. I turned it down because of the headache it is, and it would have meant. I was one step closer to management, and that was another thing I never wanted. At least at place I never owned.

Now I'm working retail for now. While the pay sucks. I'm 100% happier, and in July I'm going to beauty school for nails. Where the avg pay for this state. Was more then what I was making working in a factory.

I was definitely treated differently when I was presenting male. It seemed like I had more authority. Also with women, after transitioning I have much more female friends that are more open with me and want to spend time with me, which is nice and I prefer that. For work, I work in a female dominated profession, like out of 130+ workers where I am at, there are less than 10 males. So that didn't really change anything, in fact recently I got a promotion, after being out there for over a year. So essentially I got a job where the boys club doesn't exist, and that really helps.

...I don't really believe in male privilege, female privilege, white privilege or black privilege; everyone is created equal in my mind, and all groups have upsides and downsides; that's just the nature of the Universe. Identity politics is too divisive in my opinion; our differences are what unite us as human beings; identity politics focuses on isolating all the differences and segregating everyone into different categories from the looks of it...I wish people just saw other people as PEOPLE again. I miss that. ?

Don't be blind to the issues, there is privilege based on race/sex/ethnicity/gender/economic status etc. and others suffer for it. There has never been a time in recorded history were people saw other people as people, the only difference is now these things are getting labels and brought into the light to be confronted.

How does substituting one form of bigotry for another help improve society? I find the concept of privilege to be 'acceptable prejudice'  that has been driven by political ideology. There is no question that there are significant inequalities in the world. There isn't a simple cause nor a simple solution. My goal is to have evidence before I judge someone. Human beings are extremely tribal thus less trusting of those that are different and reluctant to stray from their tribes world view.

I think we confuse entitlement with privilege. I worked in technology in the 70s, 80s and 90s when it was almost entirely a male field. In my personal experience, I was guilty of having preconceptions about women in technology that I learned over time were just bias. I preferred working with women because they more likely to discuss issues than dictate the solution. I did discover that those men that behaved with what we would now term privilege were mostly viewed with the same dislike by the women and men I worked with.

That's a bleak and dismal view of humanity; I don't buy it personally. Like I said, every group has upsides and downsides. One of the downsides of being a male is that it's only socially acceptable to feel three emotions; "Fine/Okay", "Angry" or "-excited-". If you express any other emotion, society labels you a wuss lol. ALL groups have upsides, downsides, good qualities and bad qualities. That's the nature of duality; that's the nature of yin and yang, that's the fundamental nature of the whole Universe. Trying to say any one group is "more" or "less" is....illogical lol. Especially in America where all Americans have the same Bill of Rights under the same Constitution.

One of the downsides of being white for example is that anyone who isn't white will probably automatically think you're a racist just because of the color of your skin; happens to me all the time. Didn't used to. I wonder why??? Kidding lol. I know exactly why racism against white people is on the rise. (Identity politics. It's divisive lol.)

Hell, look at our school system (what's left of it.) A lot of teachers are leaving because of the "Critical Race Theory" bull crap that's being forced on them, because, for some baffling reason lol, teachers just aren't comfortable with teaching kids that there's something wrong with the color of their skin. They don't want to tell black kids that they'll never be good enough in the eyes of society. They don't want to tell white kids that they're inherently racist because of what their ancestors did hundreds of years ago. Why don't they want to teach kids these things? Because it's racist, and Contrary to what the left would have you believe, America isn't a racist country. The left is definitely a racist party though if you ask me; all they ever see is race lmao. And it's disgusting. They don't judge people based on the quality of their character; they judge them based on their race and gender...so they're SEXIST too lmao.

I know I'm probably a minority in my beliefs. I know it's dangerous to share my opinion. I don't care.
Nowadays it's dangerous to be anything but a super "woke" liberal socialist lol. Anyone with a different viewpoint is just a racist lmao. "Worse than Hitler!" ??

PS: Yeah, people in my country at least DID see other people as people. At least they did before Obama started telling everyone race was still a serious issue...despite becoming friggin' PRESIDENT lmao. XD I gotta love the hypocritical irony; just gotta laugh at it sometimes lol. Like when Biden said masks work but walls don't. That cracked me up lmao. XD

Anyhoo....yeah, this country gonna get ran into the ground now. I'm just sitting back with a bucket of popcorn waiting for the new Civil War to begin so I can run for the hills to avoid my fate in the concentration camps lol.

You lost me at "America isn't a racist country." You don't know anything about history and obviously are yet another loony obsessed with a "leftist agenda."

I know that a significant portion of the world is still incorporating slavery into their economic structures.

Uh hi Ellie Jean, nice to know you. I'm not American so I won't comment on the rest of it, but I'd say we're all complicit in slavery to some form or other these days thanks to so-called globalisation. I mean, if some country that isn't our country sanctions slavery and, from the work of those slaves, produces products which we then buy, wouldn't you say we have incorporated slavery into our economic structure too?

For example ie: China as in "Walmart" and "Amazon"? Truth is we're ALL becoming "economic slaves" so do as your told and perhaps we'll house & feed you (all SLAVES get at least THAT)!  A flat historical fact -> total "EQUALITY" can only exist by the total elimination of "FREEDOM", or the ability to better oneself (rather than somebody else doing it for you)!

*sigh*

Very good question, and I've certainly found the replies in this thread interesting.  I'm inclined to think that whether "male privilege" advances one's career advancement might depend on the career field one has selected.  I've always worked in predominantly female venues and don't think male privilege was a factor in advancement.  Actually, my own experience was that being gendered male had a negative effect on advancement opportunities..

That does get you the 'starting point' for cup size, but manufacturers, style, breast shape, etc... will effect the results.    Step one is of course finding the proper band fit, then figuring out the approximate cup size with the calculations. Of course you need to try on a few styles after that in different cup sizes close to your measured result until you get the perfect fit.    I have bras in a DD that fit just like my bras in DDD both from Torrid but different styles.    I have some DDD's that fit awesome and some that are a bit loose, but I measure a 46G. It's not wonder that 80% of women are wearing them wrong bra.

I firmly believe I drank entirely to much for about 25 years. Got drunk every day. This was my coping mechanism to keep hiding deep inside that I was a woman. I miss a lot of signs over the years. Now I drink mabye 1 or 2 beers a day don't even get a buzz anymore. totally accept myself and on regret is that I hide that part of my self which  truly makes me happy being violet 💜. I wasted a lot of time before  being self destructive and had no clue I was just hiding th real me

Is it a safe and friendly area for us to go.  The wife and I are looking for some where to go to allow me to be my true self.     thanks in advance

Hey, everyone. my life is going down the tubes. at least I think. So, today. A customer called about his car, I told him that the oil change was done. The parts to fix the check engine light are ordered. He can come and get it. For the weekend if he wants. Customer says I didn't want an oil change. it was check the engine light and check for an oil leak. Checking the work order says oil change. The boss wrote the vehicle up. checking with the customer on services wanted.   Being that I wrote down the appointment in the book. and clearly states oil leak. She is complaining because she can't read my small ish writing. It seems she read oil and assumed it as an oil change. It seems like she is blaming me.  She wound up going home because she was too upset. She is stressing about an eye problem she has, she has to get eye surgery it seems she has a tear in her eye.    I feel that I am short for this job. because of the BS they are blaming me on. Plus I am still upset about the trust issue. If either one of the bosses start their Shite tomorrow. I am walking out.

"I love you so much,"  Lois said.  They met in the driveway. "I could not live without you." "Neither could I." "What are we going to do?" "Find another counselor?" "No. I think we need to solve this ourselves." "Do you think we can?" "I don't know.  But what I know is that I don't want to go through that again.  I think we have to hope we can find a solution." "Otherwise, despair." "Yeah.   Truce?" "Okay,  truce." And they hugged.   "When we know what we want we can figure out how to get there."   That began six years of angry battles, with Odie insisted he could dress as he pleased and Lois insisting it did not please her at all.  He told her she was not going to control him and she replied that she still had rights as a wife to a husband. Neither was willing to give in, neither was willing to quit, and their heated arguments ended in hugs and more.   They went to a Crossdressers' Club, where they hoped to meet other couples with the same problems, the same conflicts, and the same answers, if anyone had any.  It took them four tries before they settled on a group that they were both willing to participate in.  This was four couples their own age, each with a cross dressing husband and a wife who was dealing with it.  They met monthly.  It was led by a 'mediator' who wanted people to express how they felt about the situation.  Odie and Lois, as newcomers, got the floor, and the meeting was finally dismissed at 1:30 in the morning - it was supposed to be over at 10 - and everyone knew how they felt about the situation.   There was silence in the car on the way home.   "We aren't the only ones dealing with this." Odie finally said.   "Who would have thought that?  You are right."   "Somebody out there has a solution." "I hope you are right."   "I hope in hope, not in despair."   "That's my Odie."

The counseling session was heated, if you could call it a counseling session.  Sometimes Lois felt he was on Odie's side, and sometimes on hers.  When he was on her side, Odie got defensive. She found herself being defensive when it seemed they were ganging up on each other.   "This is not working," Lois said angrily, and walked out.  "Never again. I want my husband back. Dr. Smith you are complicit in this."   "What?" said Odie.   The counselor looked at him.  "You will have to learn some listening skills."   "That is it? Listening skills?  You just destroyed my marriage, and you told me I need to learn listening skills?"   Dr. Smith said calmly,"I think you both need to cool off."   Odie looked at him and walked out, saying "And you call yourself a counselor."   "Wait a minute."   "No."

I have read some of it, mostly in areas specifically targeted at the LGBTQ+ peoples.   You also have to take into account what and who is behind the words, not just the words themselves. Together that creates context, right? Let's take some examples, under the Department of Health & Human Services section:   "Radical actors inside and outside government are promoting harmful identity politics that replaces biological sex with subjective notions of “gender identity” and bases a person’s worth on his or her race, sex, or other identities. This destructive dogma, under the guise of “equity,” threatens American’s fundamental liberties as well as the health and well-being of children and adults alike."   or   "Families comprised of a married mother, father, and their children are the foundation of a well-ordered nation and healthy society. Unfortunately, family policies and programs under President Biden’s HHS are fraught with agenda items focusing on “LGBTQ+ equity,” subsidizing single-motherhood, disincentivizing work, and penalizing marriage. These policies should be repealed and replaced by policies that support the formation of stable, married, nuclear families."   From a wording perspective, who doesn't want to protect the health and well-being of Americans or think that families aren't good for America? But let's take a look at the author, Roger Severino. He's well-quoted to be against LGBTQ+ anything, has standard christian nationalist views, supports conversion therapy, etc.   So when he uses words like "threatens the health and well-being of children and adults alike" it's not about actual health, it's about enforcing cis-gendered ideology because he (and the rest of the Heritage Foundation) believe LGBTQ+ people and communities are harmful. Or when he invokes the family through the lens of, let's just say dog whistles including the "penalization of marriage" (how and where?!), he idealizes families involving marriage of a "biological male to a biological female" and associates LGBTQ+ family equity as something unhealthy.   Who are the radical actors? Who is telling people to be trans, gay, or queer in general? No one. The idea that there can be any sort of equity between LGBTQ+ people and "normal" cis people is abhorrent to the author, so the loaded language of radical/destructive/guise/threaten are used. Families that he believes are "good" are stable/well-ordered/healthy, specifically married/nuclear ones.   Start looking into intersectionality of oppression of non-privileged groups and how that affects the concept of the family and you will understand that these platitudes are thinly veiled wrappers for christian nationalist ideology.   What's wrong with equity for queer families, to allow them full rights as parents, who are bringing up smart and able children? Or single mothers who are working three jobs to get food on plates?
