It is indeed amazing that many (including me to whatever extent) have that tendency to think only they have it right.   That is true in the trans* community, the LGBTQ + community or the straight community.  I have always been happy that this site is open, as much as possible, to all with gender issues.  I not only find the support i need but i have the chance to grow in the understanding of the issues others face.

Thank you for posting this Ocean.

Hugs,

Charlize

Thanks, @Oceans3I needed a laugh . . . and a grimace . . . and a laugh.

Hello, I'm Davie.

I'm non-binary, they say. A term
like non-human, some may pray.
Not fit for battle—but jail available.
No batteries—but non-recyclable.
Not built to swim—but to drown
like unwanted litters of kittens.
I'm non-binary, not non-humorous.
I'm non-binary, not non-human.

Thanks, @Oceans3 I relate to this comic because several of my family members claim to be supporters of the #LGBTQ community until a family member comes out. Then it's a sickness.

Well said @Davie It's amazing how someone we though we were close to can, now think of us as non-human.

Hugs,

I've been recently contemplating the concept of describing oneself by what they're not. I'm nonbinary and asexual. I'm also "not" lots of other things, but I don't readily identify myself that way. So, is the only way to describe my gender identity and sexual orientation by denial, so to speak? There is a Vedanta spiritual practice called "neti neti" (not this, not that) in which the seeker meditates on negating all that is not God with the aim of realizing God (God as beyond all qualities, names & forms). So, at first I felt dismayed at the realization that I describe myself as not binary, not sexual because it does not describe what I am; rather what I'm not. But, on further thought, I see that by stripping away attachment to performing/conforming to what I'm not, I have greater access to realize what I am, regardless of how others see me or label me.

The cartoon is spot on.  Our community has always been too concerned with "who belongs" and "who qualifies."  Many don't like the "umbrella" term at all.  I think that's wrong.  That's why I've always liked this place.  Here, umbrellas are a necessity, even when it's not raining.

Good points. Something I think about, too. Nonbinary and what?

What, indeed. Perhaps I'm "gender inclusive" rather than "nonbinary".

Sure . . . but I was thinking of another term, "normal." (Nah, just kidding—no way that's true of me). "Gender inclusive" is progress, certainly. "Bigender" or is that too close to bisexual, which I'm not? I really feel like too much of a moving target just now in my changes to use anything other than my name without any pronoun—and accept whatever pronouns are used for me. I'm not sure I'll ever "figure it out," so I'll probably have let it figure me out. My therapist is way more patient than I am (no pun intended). She's probably right. So for now I guess I'm just,

Davie
