Pneumonia! Argh!

So, they inserted another chest tube and cranked up the suction.  That did something, possibly reinflating the lung.  Whatever it was, it hurt a lot.  Now we wait and see.   The hole in the lung needs to heal.

Update.

I am still in the Halifax hospital.  They are gradually getting my lung inflated by continued suction in my chest.  The lung has to heal its own leak, then the suction can remove the leaked air and fluid, making room for it to expand.  It’s a slow process, because there is still quite a bit of pneumonia in the lung.  Yesterday, they sent a camera down there to see what is going on.  I should get the report on that today.

Bored.  Lonely.  Want to go home.  But physically, improving slowly.

Ugh, chest tubes are miserable. You are hyperaware of every breath.  Wishing you the best. Things will improve, maybe slow at first but then rabidly.

Waiting is hard to do, it often goes against our established routines. But you're making determined progress, and that's a good thing.

Well, I happen to know that more than a few of us here would love to hear more about the equipment and techniques responsible for your stunning astrophotography. 🌟🌘

You have an amazing talent!

Update:

Today’s X-ray showed improvement in the lung.  They have me off suction now.  If my lung can hold its size without suction, it means that the leak has healed.  And that means that I can soon go home.  More X-rays soon to confirm that.

It’s been two and a half weeks, so I’m ready to go home.

Hey, great news, Kathy! Continued healing to get you home agaIn. That's a lot of hospital time. Thanks for letting us all know.

Great news Kathy.  I hope your body can do its part now.  I know (well not really) that 2.5 weeks in the hospital is a tremendous amount of time.  I know your wife and kitties miss you.

Hugs,

Jani

Thats the greatest news next to "you can go home". 🫂😄

Here is hoping all is well in the next set of pictures too. Nothing like being home for the spirit and healing.

I am finally home.  Weak as a kitten, and I have lost a few pounds of muscle mass, but at least I am breathing.  I have my oximeter dangling from my neck so I can check my oxygen level frequently.

I'm so glad you are on the mend.  With any luck you will be in great shape as the first flowers of spring arrive.  Time will give you back your strength but for now don't push too hard.

I remember how frustrating, depressed and dejected i felt after open heart surgery.  It gets better!

Gentle Hugs,

I'm glad to here you're home.  It will be easier to rest and heal there.  I keep my oxygen meter close by as well.  After my sinus surgery the numbers tanked and put a scare into me.

Rest well!

May this incident gradually fade in your rear view mirror, to be replaced by the things that bring you joy.
