Was I just clocked for the first time? I'm not sure.

 

I had lunch with a buddy and a brand new woman friend who called me "lovely." Not a term I'm used to being called, but it didn't hurt a bit. I actually got a tinge of thrill to hear it. She's an accomplished European journalist and Rhodes scholar, so she seems to mean everything she says . . . so I'm taking that as a yes. Great weather today, just before the storm, and ate at what used to be called a restaurant on their roof garden outside. Great road trip to Lexington in the sunshine . . . and clocked (in a good way).

My self-esteem didn't mind the compliment either.

I’ve gone through quite a transformation the past year myself. I was the zoom master at a recent toastmasters workshop at which several current and past district officers were present. I had my video turned off. One of the speakers made a wisecrack about how I used to have mutton chops so I briefly turned on my video and a lady running the event who hadn’t seen me in  couple of years but who had just been praising my efforts as the district webmaster saw me and gasped! She said “you look so pretty!” I just smiled sweetly and she probed a bit further to see if maybe I had just slipped on a wig for a joke so I pulled my hair and said in a mock complaining voice “I resemble that remark!” And she repeated later something about me looking pretty! If it was supposed to be a jibe it backfired on me. I took it as the ultimate compliment!
