Hello,

I'm new to the forum.  Hope you're all having a good day (or night).  I've always felt like a boy on the inside, but growing up in the 80s never had a language for it.  The first time I heard of a trans person was in college, and it was in derogatory terms.  Added to that, my religious background meant that even after I was exposed to the language and ideas, I didn't apply them to myself.  Fast forward to the pandemic, a loss of faith and... here I am! I'm thrilled to have words for myself that make sense, and to hear so many stories of trans guys that resonate.  At the same time, I'm struggling as I'm in a small town so don't have any in person community.  My partner is a nice guy, but from the same religious background as I was and he hasn't gone through the same loss of faith.  He thinks this is a phase.  Anyway, good to hear from so many others, even if it's virtual.  It helps me not feel so completely alone.

I get that.  Growing up in the 60s, I didn't have a word for it for most of my life.  I had heard about trans celebrities like Christine Jorgensen or Renée Richards, but only in derogatory terms.  I assumed people like that were very rare and that therefore did not include me.  It was a bit of a shock at age 62 to realize that I was trans.

 

I hope that you are able to find local support, and that your partner comes around.  Certainly, this is a great place for support.
