What was the song and why did it effect you so deeply?

The last time was when I first heard "Tuesday" by Charlie Farren.  Its about his friend and Boston singer Brad Delp.  Its heartfelt and sad.  It speaks to the love of one person for another.

excellent - thank you for sharing @Jani

It was "Sally's Song" by Amy Lee.  Of course she named me in the title, but it was her melodic vocals and the theme of love given but not received that pulled at my heartstrings.

It was Roberta Flack doing "The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face".  Still a song I go back to.

Have you ever had a song you originally saw as "not bad, but doesn't compare to their earlier stuff" gradually grow on you and eventually become one of your most personally meaningful top favorites?

Or how about a song you always loved, but over the years it developed a deeper, more personal, meaning than you ever could have imagined? You were already in love with it, but fell in love all the more, all over again?

Well I'm torn between the two. John Bon Jovi's "It's My Life", and "Shattered Dreams" from Johnny Hates Jazz.

But ultimately I'm an 80's girl - Johnny Hates Jazz gets the edge, and then some. Even ignoring the poignant lyrics, everything else about even the very sound of the song just speaks directly to the core of my soul.

The more I hear this song the more I relate as it has captured my present condition

Lyrics

From morning to night, I stayed out of sight
Didn't recognize I'd become
No more than alive, I'd barely survive
In a word overrun
Won't hear a sound (he's curled into the corner)
From my mouth (but still the screen is flickering)
I've spent too long (with an endless stream of garbage)
On the inside out (curse the place)
My skin is cold (in a sea of random images)
To the human touch (the self-destructing animal)
This bleeding heart's (waiting for the waves)
Not beating much (to break)
I murmured a vow of silence and now
I don't even hear when I think aloud
Extinguished by light, I turn on the night
Wear its darkness with an empty smile
I'm creeping back to life
My nervous system all awry
I'm wearing the inside out
Look at him now
He's paler somehow
But he's coming round
He's starting to choke
It's been so long since he spoke
Well, he can have the words right from my mouth
And with these words, I can see
Clear through the clouds that covered me
Just give it time then speak my name
Now we can hear ourselves again
I'm holding out (he's standing on the threshold)
For the day (caught in fiery anger)
When all the clouds (and hurled into the furnace)
Have blown away (he'll curse the place)
I'm with you now (he's torn in all directions)
Can speak your name (and still the screen is flickering)
Now we can hear (waiting for the flames)
Ourselves again (to break)

@Heather Shay I have to confess that being from the generation I am, my awareness of 60's/70's music is spotty and limited. Over time, I have learned enough to know that, even though not all Pink Floyd necissarily speaks to me much (absolutely no offence intended whatsoever!), I do definitely very much enjoy a lot of Alan Parsons Project and, of course "Another Brick in the Wall pt 2" still completely blows me away (something about its skilled, and still unique even now, blending of Jazz and Rock).

With that in mind, I just wanted to point out how I appreciate you sharing "Wearing The Inside Out". My brain immediately recognized the iconic cover art, although I'll admit to a touch of embarrasment at how long it took me to place it. It's admittedly a new song to me, but I appreciate the lyrical significance (I've always had similary favorite songs, lyricaly) and the dual-lyric concept, plus, like "another brick pt 2" I love the song's blending of jazz and rock influences (and maybe even a touch of new age if I'm not mistasken?) Not to mention the somber, chill, smooth, effect it all evokes overall (!)

In turn, here's a couple more songs I also find special significance with:

This longtime favorite of mine, I think may have special significance for those of us who have dealt with, or may currently deal with substance issues:

Fun Fact: Martika was an early castmate of Jennifer Love Hewitt who began as a singer before moving into acting on "Kids Incorporated", which also co-starred (among others) Martika.

But on a more uplifting note, I think this well-known one is probably appropriate for all of us here in at least one way or another. I know it's at least a good recap of my last several years or so, so far! Here's to all the challenges we've all survived!

After all this time...I'M STILL STANDING!!!

Aside from the X-Files, Gilmore Girls is easily my favorite TV show. I originally watched the original airing in the commuter lounge at my college starting in 2000 because I was embarrassed to watch it at home when I living as a man. Now that I am out and transitioned, I watch it openly and wear Gilmore Girls t-shirts at work on days that I wear a skirt. For Valentine’s Day, my wife bought me the DVD’s. Yesterday I had to stay at work late because of an IT problem (I am not IT so I just had to make sure the pump stations telemetry was functioning properly before I could leave, IT did the actual work) and so I watched it on Netflix. Lorelai Gilmore inspired me to change my name to Lorelei. Yes, I picked a more traditional spelling on the name. The mother daughter interaction between them is heartwarming and sometimes hilarious. Last week I just started rewatching it again. Ironically I relate most to Luke, very rare as I almost always relate to a female character. Anyone else here love the show?

Good morning everyone,   @Birdie continued prayers for you as they figure thing out. I'm glad you're being properly cared for.   @April Marie I love the pageantry of the Kentucky Derby the bright dresses, and fascinating hats worn by the ladies. As for the mint juleps... I'll pass, they're just to aromatic for me.  We'll be watching "The Fastest Two Minutes in Sports" as well.   @Adrianna Danielle & @awkward-yet-sweet it is amazing how a new stove seems to cook food better. Cooking for 36 people is a phenomenal task, and if you're doing it on anything less than a professional cook stove. You're preforming miracles, and I wish you the best.   My yard work is done for the day, because I don't have to wait until Saturday to do it. I'm getting use to this mostly retired situation. The windows and doors have been open since I first got up and the yard is full of bird songs. I have the best neighbors because they don't start their noisy yard work until very late morning or early afternoon.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

I took an involuntary swim wearing my quick dry hiking pants and shirt. Lifejacket not shown but present on the rock I am sitting on. Watson is dry now but I am still soaked. I capsized my kayak 5 feet from the shore trying to land on an island. Water in the pond was surprisingly warm considering it is early may in upstate New York.

@Birdie best of luck to you, my friend.   @MaeBe, nothing ventured, nothing gained! Good luck!

Oh I will. He loves to just sleep on the couch and sleep. Not very active at all which I'm mixed about. Less to do but also want him to do more too.

We had a German Shepheard/Lab cross! It was actually our son's dog but when he moved out, Axel stayed here. ❤️ He was soooo awesome! Totally goofy, but really smart, and a million percent lovable. Unfortunately, he didn't even get to see his fifth birthday. 😢 He did both hind knees in quick succession, which were repaired, but he re-injured one and it wasn't repairable. The grief we went through after we made that horrible decision was far worse than anything we have ever experienced before or after.    @Ashley0616, please be gentle with his joints until he is all grown up!   This pic is when he was still a puppy.

When things seemed really rocky with my wife. I had thought about moving to the PNW. WA and OR are quite LGBTQ friendly. Even interviewed for a couple jobs there.   Hugs, Kymmie

Friday night was pizza night, which is actually pretty routine here.    Tonight was a bit of a seafood fry-up. Crumbed flathead tails pan fried, crumbed scallops and chips (fries) deep fried, and a salad.   Tomorrow night will be junk food at a football game.

I was admitted upstairs for observation. The nurse last night took one look at me and said, "we need to use a FEMALE external catheter on you."   They placed a PureWick catheter over me and it's working great. If there isn't anything to connect a male catheter to it just isn't going to work.   So far I haven't passed more blood, and my abdomen does feel better. A specialist is supposed to see me today and perhaps order a colonoscopy to find out where all the blood came from.
