Late Starter

Early last year, about to turn 80 in a few months, I had the idea to start combining my barely adequate guitar skills with my knowledge of digital recording and editing and create a new hobby for myself. I bought myself a decent instrument to supplement the cheap one that's been gathering dust.

 

I've never really been a musician, in that I can't read music, never took lessons, hardly ever practiced, didn't have others to interact with, and would quit playing for long periods of time (most recently, 40 years). I knew songs by heart and have a pretty good ear, but I never even learned to play lead.

 

Fast forward to today. I have over sixty of my mixes posted on a web site, my own online radio station, and a lot of local fans. Because I work very hard to get the results I want, my technique has improved immensely. What I've recorded spans six decades of time and many different genres.  If something appeals to me, I give it a try.

I'm working at home and not interacting with others face-to-face, so I really appreciate the opportunity to establish friendships with like-minded people here.

You've got a couple of years on me but at 74 i am enjoying learning new farming skills.  Like you i'm pretty much a home body who enjoys interaction here.  I've left my pursuit of the arts behind for a bit only doing a piece of sculpture now and again.  As my mobility declines i am looking forward to time to get back to passions that have been temporarily left behind.

That is such a wonderful story.

I've just started learning how to play bass after first learning drums a year or too ago. I haven't go the courage of the ability to go all out online ... yet

I find as much enjoyment building guitars as trying to learn how to play them
