Issue with search function

Apologies if there's a topic for this already...

 

I'm frustrated with this timeout for doing a new search. I understand there is good reason the timout is implemented but I wonder if the following indicates a bug:  I did a search and tried to click on one of the topics, but accidentally clicked the name of the member and got to her profile. I said oops, hit the back button to return to my search results and got the notice that I have to wait 38 seconds before doing a new search. 

 

(tears hair out, as this is the umpteenth time this has happened) I'm trying to return to a search result page - not perform a new one!  

 

Is this an intended feature that I have to accept? Or a bug?

This is often a bit frustrating for me, too.  The inability to have a persistent search result page is unfortunate.  I'm basically not using search anymore.  However, please know that I'm not whining -- I understand that this site software can't realistically be upgraded/improved, and also know that it's the wonderful people here that keep me coming back almost every day!

That's one heck of a statement! I guess that is a way of confirming my supposition above: it is "an intended feature that I have to accept." 

 

Oh by the way I just saw the pinned topic "Asking for help" so let me provide more information to anyone able to diagnose the software. I'm viewing these forums on an android phone. My browser is Duck Duck Go version 5.145.5. This experience seems to happen everywhere in these forums, not just in one section.

Search uses a (quote) large amount of server power (unquote) so it is currently set to 1 minute between searches.

 

I have re-set it to 30 seconds for a trial period, if it overloads the server, then it will go back to 1 minute as before.

But why is using the back button to return from an accidental departure from the search results page considered a new search? I'm returning to a previously generated list, not generating a new one, yeah?

No idea to be honest, at a guess it’s the way the software is set up in that it refreshes the search. You might do better to open the item you wish to view in a new tab, is that possible on your mobile? I know it’s just about doable on an iPad.

I need to try that, thanks for the suggestion! Failing that, I might just have to save searches for when I'm at my home desktop.
