The governor says that his state is now a bastion of "normalcy."  What it has become is a bastion for Gay & trans haters, or at the very least, those in the legislature and Governor's Office.  He won't quit until he gets as many LGBTQ people to leave FL as possible.

I am wondering where the money to enforce all these laws is going to come from.  The will not tax the most able to pay taxes to do it.  He has even more trouble headed his way from a wide range of sources who collectively have much more money to spend against his shenanigans than the best tax collection efforts of his regime will come up with.

If you are underage, and think you might be trans (or something) they can take you away from your family, and re-educate you now.

 "Immutable biological traits" are subject to law.  Just outlaw any science that disagrees with the party line.

They're not against indoctrination per se, it just has to be their indoctrination.

 

And of course it wouldn't be complete without a bathroom ban.

These are the people who lost their minds over being asked to wear a mask during an epidemic.   Ah… isn't freedom wonderful?

My parents (who are still in Florida for now) say that even neighbors and friends there who have been traditionally very conservative and who voted for him are starting to say DeSantis is going way too far with his banning of everything relating to being gay or transgendered, his war on Disney, and on the state school system.

 

The major taking point seems to be, what if somebody else uses this precedent to go after them?  A lot of places like retirement communities where my parents live are special taxing districts like DeSantis took away from Disney, can theirs be taken away too?  Can they lose rights if they speak up about something they disagree with?  Can their own grandchildren who are in school now be punished if they don't fall in line with state government standards?

 

It's interesting to hear why they may not agree with transgender rights in general, the concern is starting to shift to the idea of rights being taken away in general.  As my mother told me one of her very Republican friends said: "What if we are next?"

A valid concern.  When we lose our rights, everyone loses theirs.

The smile on DeSantis' face is just sickening.  Yes he's so proud that he just signed those bills that essentially makes it impossible for me to enter the state where I was born because I am essentially a non-person there now with no rights.

 

But I mostly feel sorry for all the people he just harmed down there.  I know some could say he doesn't realize the damage he's doing.  I don't think that's true.  He fully realizes the damage he's doing to so many people's lives and he loves it!

 

My parents are looking at homes on Maryland's eastern shore and in Delaware and my mom confirmed their plan is to be out of there by the end of summer.  She also said finding a buyer for their home is proving difficult because of the Florida home insurance crisis.

Planned Parenthood is now cancelling appointments for ADULT hormone therapy in Florida. I tried to tell people that this law would impact adult care and tried to sound the alarm. 80% of all adult trans care in Florida was just wiped out by DeSantis.

I very much hope that legal orgs will soon, if they haven't already, filed suit to stop this nonsense.

I started my transition with PP here in NC.  And yes, it was with a nurse practitioner.

You could see this coming.  I hope NC doesn't follow suit.  We're starting to head down that road now.
