"During her July 11 and 12 interviews on Fox News, Wheeler said she saw the trans woman naked. But at the rally, she called this a “miscommunication,” saying, “To be clear, I did not see the [person] naked, and no [human] genitalia was exposed.”

 

Allegations don't exactly need to be true to get the stuff started.  But the haters will be more than willing to jump on regardless.

The young lady also engaged in a campaign of harassment against the transgender person within the Y…

 

"During her Fox News interviews, she also said she was kicked off of the swim team after posting signs at the YMCA…

 

"The signs said, “Men are not welcome here,” “Women Need Rights, Men Already Have Them,” “In case anyone is unawar [sic], I feel as a concerned member to share this shocking news. Transgenders [sic] are now using the womens [sic] locker room. They have been for a while now. Please feel free to share/spead [sic] the world [sic],” “Girls Rule, Boys Drool,” and “Women Deserve to be Safe Here.”

Wheeler and her parents were told that Wheeler’s signs were “hateful to other members and violated the YMCA code of conduct.”

 

Which is of course true.  Also, she wasn't "kicked off" the team.

 

"a May 29 email from Wheeler’s mother to her daughter’s coach clearly says, “We have decided to remove Abbigail from the SPY swim team.”

The YMCA allows trans women to use the women’s locker room to comply with the Illinois Human Rights Act…"

That girl is growing up to be another right wing hater, just like her parents.  This nut didn't fall far from the tree.  I used to have great hope for the newer generations, but I'm not so sure anymore.

The part of this that puts an evil smirk on my face is that this has not done any damage to the YMCA in reality, nor changed its resolve to serve its community.  It was the girl's family who removed her from the team and it is only a minor loss to the actual swim team.

 

As to the mother's piety about "harming a little one" nothing is ever said about the harm done by instilling hatred in a child.  There is no evidence the "child" was harmed by the Trans person(s), but ample evidence of the harm done by the parent.

I had trouble getting past “Girls Rule, Boys Drool,”.  I wonder when the right wing lawmakers will act to keep boys from drooling.  They have certainly done their best to keep girls from ruling.

The very last sentence seems to be the most important: "The YMCA offers private changing facilities for its members."  If that's true and a private spot is available for anyone who feels uncomfortable,  then there's no reason to complain.  I understand cis women who only want to change around other cis women, and I believe that preference should be accomodated....but it seems in this case it already has been.  This complaint wasn't about a problem...it was just to cause trouble and maybe get famous at others' expense.

 

One thing I would like to see come out of the trans rights issue is a realization that some of what passes for feminism these days is actually anti-male sexism.  The idea that in the USA men have rights and women don't...it just doesn't match with the reality I experienced in my girl form, or what my female partners and friends experience.  But I see systemic prejudice against men in many cases, and I think some of that is driving the discrimination against trans women.

 

I'm still waiting for Martin Luther King Jr's dream, where the only thing that matters is the content of a person's character.
