Going Gray

Well, it's official, I'm going gray.  I just bought a new gray wig.  The color is "Silvery Moon" which is a silver gray shade.  I wasn't sure gray would match my skin tone but when I tried it on it seemed to work perfectly.  I'll have a better feel for how it looks when I wear it out this weekend.  I have been thinking about going gray for some time, but just couldn't bring myself to spend the money on new hair (I already own a lot of wigs).  But then, I got great coupon from Paula Young wigs and they offered me free shipping to boot.  It was offer I couldn't pass up. Might be time to update my avatar once again and this time with gray hair.

Good luck, some can rock it.  My natural gray color is NOT PRETTY in any way, and so I am enjoying a stylist and colorist who is "in the family" (Trans sister) and is proud of what she does for me.

I have a lovely grey wig of the same style as my everyday gal.  I guess i'm hesitant to go that way because i get a kickmout of people looking amazed when i say i'm 75.  Ohhh vanity your name is also Charlize.

Hugs,

My natural hair is the same as my wig - Avatar pic is my wig. I initially bought a strawberry blond one, wore it once and realized I just needed to acknowledge my truth in every way. So I bought one in all grey. Now that it's grown out, I am more and more often just combing out my natural hair for every day and save the wig for special occasions. But, I do love the wig.

I've found that using So Silver shampoo and conditioner takes any yellow highlights out that I get from sun exposure, etc.

I started getting way too many grey hairs about five years ago and I'm I have to admit that's when I really started getting my hair colored more often.  I know it will overtake me eventually and I'll just accept it, but I'm not ready to give up my blonde look yet!

I guess gray hair in a lot of ways is a form of giving in to reality, but I've seen so many women, regardless of age, who look amazing with gray hair; maybe I can be one of them.  This weekend, after my makeup is done, I'm hoping to see if my new gray wig ages me.  I always have other hair colors to fall back on, so I'm not worried too much.

Have the wig with you and model it for the makeup person since the artist will choose product to enhance the look and make it a single production..

Vicky, I actually hadn't thought of having an artist do my makeup, I will be doing it myself, as always.  However, I like your idea and may seek out a makeup artist that can match makeup to my new hair color.  Thanks so much for the recommendation.

The stand alone Sephora and ULTA Beauty stores have people in them who can do that for you and it may be free depending on how and when.  At one time Sephora had Seniors Make-up tutoring events that are fun and also Trans events.

I still have a hard time coming to grips with the fact I am a senior Vicky.  It's not because I'm in denial, it's because I can't believe I got here so fast.

My recommendation is to not waste a single year of your life; they are precious and few!

I already have that 'tude, I am nearing 76, although family history gives me a chance or another 10+.

I know I'm pretty bad at figuring out how old people are, but as someone who's met you IRL I thought you were way younger than that!

Rhonda, you are sweet to say that.  And, I really miss hanging out with you.  Getting together was always such a great time.

Great topic Sally. For me I love that I am going grey now. Just a little bit at this time but its like a badge of honour.  I feel I earned it.

I'd like to provide an update on how I'm feeling about my new gray wig and honestly, the jury is still out.  I did some department store shopping and you know how we tend to use those mirrored support columns and full length mirrors in the dressing rooms to assess our appearance; well, I just wasn't seeing that my new gray hair was flattering me quite the way other hair colors do.

It could be I'm not used to the drastic change, but overall, I wasn't as fond of gray as I thought I'd be.  I actually found myself wishing I was wearing my strawberry blonde wig instead.  To my eye, it matches my skin tone a lot better.

I'm not going to give up on the gray wig just yet; I'll try it again for sure, but for now I think I'll stick with blondes and reds as my go to shades.

I didn't get any remarks about my gray hair, but then, I usually don't choose fashions or beauty styles to garner compliments.  Instead, my fashion choices are the ones that make me feel my best.  So, despite what others might think, I need to choose a hair color that makes me feel pretty and at the moment, it's not gray.

I am naturally gray now, and I am flaunting it!

So, today I had my quarterly appointment with my hairdresser, for a bit of a tidy up. Once again it was a lovely time, and over all too quickly. Apparently, my layers are now OUT! Yay me! :)

It's your precognitive to have the color of your choice. I remember a commercial from my teen years that said:

"Only your hair dresser will know".

You be you and don't worry about the gray.

I think I would rock gray when it comes in. Although my mom still doesn't have gray hairs at 65

I've been grey for years.  When I went over to a wig, I insisted on grey.  I went through a lot to get here.  I embrace my old crone look.

I had a pretty serious porn addiction for awhile (thankfully broken about 12 years ago), and so my wife sees my "trans-ness" tied into that ... to her, it is all one ugly thread of sexual sin and dysfunction... sometimes, I do struggle with it, too. Is this just another branch of a sexual addiction thing? Am I looking for a substitute for the porn?   When I sift through everything it seems much deeper than that. And if anything, the HRT has lowered/changed my libido and it hasn't lowered my desire to move in a more feminine direction with dress, etc. It can be confusing, especially when you are in a very religious/moralistic environment...   To get back to the main topic, the fear of change and the unknown is huge. And like others have said, folks on the fringe of just about any cause tend to be what gets played up in the media and what folks see the most. Not many people see good ol' regular transgender people who are just trying to live their lives, hold down jobs, take care of their families, etc.

Isn't it illegal to be examining people's genitals without their consent?    Could've sworn that was some sort of law already.

Oddly i often feel i pass but then bump into someone who reads my past attempts at maleness.    Last week at the market a man spoke me as i went back to my car.  I heard "You are beautiful"!  Odd!!!!!  Then he said something about marriage and i started to get worried.  Turned out he is married to a trans woman.  He was sweet and probably is tuned to trans folks but it was a bit disquieting.     Hugs,   Charlize

I decided to power wash our back porch and the porch furniture so the uniform of the day is a skort, t-shirt over a sports bra and flip flops with my hair pulled back into a ponytail.

It's been touched on in another thread, the perception that the folks who scream loudest in favor of free speech are also the loudest in wanting to stifle the freedom of people not like themselves.

I wonder if the LGBTQI+ umbrella should be split? Create separate entities for LGB and TQI+ folk?    I have no doubt that some cis het people probably think that sexuality and gender identity are the same thing, for whatever the reason, not necessarily willful ignorance. It would be natural for such people to observe that both LGB and T folk are under the same umbrella, so they must be the same, right?   Just as (and I know I'm making some pretty big assumptions in this post) some cis gay folk would think that the LBGTQI+ umbrella is pie - give trans people a slice, and somehow, they will miss out. Just like cis het folk might also think that their lives are somehow being diminished by allowing trans people to have basic human rights.

Suppressing your emotions because you’re afraid of them can be bad for your physical and mental health. Here’s what to do instead. When a toddler feels a “big” emotion, like anger or sadness, they tend to have a big tantrum on the floor. And these tantrums can be a lot to observe, full of thrashing, screaming, and tears. But a child reacts like this because the emotion they’re feeling is uncomfortable, maybe even painful.   Of course, as adults, we feel emotions too, and those feelings can be just as overwhelming, uncomfortable, or even painful as they were when we were children, even if we don’t let ourselves react in such a big way. But, sometimes, in our attempts to not give in to our emotions, we go too far: we run from them or suppress them — even if that harms us in the long run. Although there are many reasons we might suppress our emotions, one of them is that we are afraid of our emotions. Fear of emotions is called “animotophobia. It is not an official term in the DSM-5-TR. Still, fearing your emotions can have a significant impact on your well-being.
