A bit of trans history in sobriety.

I had just returned from an AA meeting when i first found this site 11+ years ago.  At that point i had 5 years of sobriety and had found acceptance as myself in the rooms of AA.  To find this site with forums devoted to recovery from addiction was a unique blessing.  Sober trans folk!  Amazing!

There was a moderator here named Michelle who lead me a group called TGAA.  We had a list serve there as well as a Skype room.  When Skype worked, which it sometimes did, there were up to 5 of us trans folks from around the world having an AA meeting.  We became the first meeting of any kind that was listed on the AA general services Online intergroup that has an audio visual meeting.

As Zoom became available we took a leap and slowly, with many members from here, our numbers grew.  We now have 5 meetings a week with good attendance.

Other groups have started on line and a quick search can find one meetings of sober trans folks around the world.

Quite a change for the best and most certain type of life for any addict.  Other obligations (and the pandemic) have kept me from regularly being in actual physical rooms these days, but the spirit and discipline of them lives on in my consciousness of who and what I am and will continue to be.

Amazing, it made me think when I found TP and then TGAA, must be 3 or 4 years ago.

I had 20 years of sobriety and felt resigned to not being able to go to meetings as I transitioned. TGAA was a lifeline for me.

I'm looking forward to many more years of sobriety and being able to be honest with myself and others.
