I don't know if anyone else here was into this.  A cis friend turned me on to the Netflix series, and I did read a few of the books.

I'm kinda interested to see where it goes.

@Ivy

I was recently told about this series and so my wife and I watched the 6 episodes of the original “Tales of the City (1993)” free on PlutoTV two week ago. Then we watched the 10 episodes of “Tales of the City (2019)” on Netflix last week. Needless to say, we enjoyed the storyline and character development of both very much.

As I was researching this series, I found that the first 6 free Showtime episodes were actually Season 1 of the a 3-Season series. Apparently, Showtime released Season 2 with 6 additional episodes in 1998 and finally an additional 4 episode Season 3 in 2001 (source). Sadly, Season 2 and 3 are not available to stream on any platform…even Showtime themselves. The good news is that the 2019 series does a great job in filling in the gaps between the 1993 and 2019 seasons. Many of the main characters in the very first season return, a few other character’s fates are explained, and only one main character was left out for whatever reason. The second and third seasons that I missed probably would’ve helped with that but TBH it wasn’t critical to the overall storyline or enjoyment.

I highly recommend Tales of the City to those in our LGBTQ+ community but understand that this material is for mature audiences only and contains sexual content and adult themes that are not recommended for anyone under 18. It’s a very good series with many twists and turns and is rich in culture, diversity, and acceptance.

PS: In the Netfix (2019) season espiode 8 “Days of Small Surrenders” is pure gold. It gives you a realistic glimpse of what it was like living as a Transgender individual in San Francisco back in the 1960’s. Things have changed since but this Flashback episode is a tear jerker. If you don’t intend to watch the series, at least watch this one episode. It hits home.

@Susan RYes, it's courageous and open storytelling really puts to shame so much of what is portrayed about trans diverse lives—it shows what trans lives are really like, and how trans lives could be shown.  Our lives, too, are beautiful in our real loves and in our struggles. Nice to see them dramatized so well. —Davie

I've rewatched this particular episode more than once.  It tears me up every time.

TBH I'm on the verge just recalling it now.

I cried at the end of the series as well.

      Thanks Davie! And don’t worry, I didn’t take it that way. It’s just such a big topic I can only hope to tackle it one bit at a time.

      This is not uncommon.  I started out going to the therapist in androgynous clothing: from the women's department, but plausibly masculine.  What made it easier was when I started going to a trans peer support group.  Most of the people there were presenting fully feminine, so I looked out of place in my androgynous clothing.  The peer pressure made it easier to dress in skirts.   I started out changing in a gender-neutral bathroom near the meeting room.  But I soon started wearing skirts in the car to and from the meetings.   Yes, it was nerve-wracking at first, but I soon realized that no one was looking and no one cared.    You can do this.

      In my last session my therapist is starting to suggest that I need to start exploring my gender identity in a more tangible way through wearing feminine clothing at least during sessions.  I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around her seeing me actually en femme.   I love and trust her, but the thought of being visibly feminine is scaring (and thrilling) me.  Is this a common thing in gender therapy?  How do I get past the fear?  More importantly, what should I wear?

      USA doctors denounce Cass Report, support trans folks.  The Endocrine Society And American Academy Of Pediatrics Respond To Cass, Reject Bans. In recent weeks, the Cass Review out of the United Kingdom has been used to argue for bans on care. I felt the urge to date and felt just like a teenager again. I have recorded my journal titled Ashley's Life From Start to Present. I was very moody and agitated and happy. I think it was my body's way of being in shock. After about two months it got better. Remember that you aren't the only one transitioning because your wife is too. Consider yourself lucky because I lost mine because of it and so have many others. Just enjoy the ride.

      I'm sorry for asking so many questions about your situation. I'm in your camp and believe you should be able to be whoever you feel you need to be. I guess it the Union Shop Stewart coming out in me. I want you to be treated fairly as well as respectably. You're human, you're a client of theirs. Especially if you're paying money to be there.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

      Views, terminology, and aspects of how events came to be....aren't those directly related to the news item?  If not, I'm rather confused.
