Hi,  I have a voice recording that I would like feedback on.  But it’s not in the proper format.  I have an m4a file and I’m trying to convert to m4v.

is there another file format that you think would be better?

Now I have an m4a but.  I click on “choose files’,  choose the file on my iPad, but it will not paste.

Further info.   I’m using an iPad, iOS, and I’m choosing the file by choosing the “files” icon, look for the file, and highlighting iy

Never tried to upload a sound file myself, had to look up what a m4v file is, I wonder if a mp4 file type might work? I’ve no sound files on my iPad I’m afraid to test it myself.

I've done some work with audio so I might be able to help with that. First, if you have a PC, the best app for audio will be Audacity, so grab that if you don't have it - it's free. It's available for Windows, Mac and Linux, unsure about iOS. Your best bet is to do this on a PC, if you have access to one.

 - M4V is a video format so no sense in using that for audio.

 - I'm shocked that MP3 is not a supported format on here as it's basically universally accepted.

 - However, OGG is supported so you should be able to use Audacity to convert to that format.

 - OGG is basically an open standard similar to MP3, which is a proprietary/closed standard.

Using Audacity, simply drop the file in and choose File - Export - Export as OGG, then hit save.

Hope that helps!

@AvraI just uploaded a test Audio file in MP3 format, lets see what happens.  It is a "track" for a number that the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles uses. @Petra Jane

This seems to be working just fine.

Awesome! I was only going by the list of supported formats shown when posting. I hadn't actually tested it. That is good to know. 😎

@VickySGV It looks like that list of supported formats has been removed now? At least I can't see it anymore.

In short, MP3 is the best universal format unless you care about open standards - then OGG/FLAC is better but might not play on all devices. M4A is the new MP3 replacement but also may not be playable everywhere yet.
