The bill, if passed, would end all trans legal recognition and would require all Floridians to sign "biological sex affidavits" when renewing their licenses.

"The bill starts by defining “sex” in a way that excludes transgender people and incorporating this definition at the beginning of Florida's legal code - Section 1.01. It demands that every law in Florida adhere to this definition, effectively eliminating all transgender legal recognition in a single move. It then goes through many areas of code and creates additional policies that allow for the tracking of transgender people’s assigned sex at birth and the enforcement of laws that exclude or criminalize them."

"The affidavits would be mandatory for all Floridians applying for a driver's license."

" this bill, however, could enable government officials to consult a database to enforce the bathroom ban"

"The state, which has been designed one of the worst for transgender people in the country, is showing that it may go even further in its quest to eradicate transgender people from its borders."

I literally cannot even...

I'll just say this. There are so many urgent problems, actual problems, in Florida that no one in Tallahassee seems willing to devote time and energy to. It's shameful, all these elected officials who work to oppress rather than uplift. It is surreal living in Florida...

"Sex: The classification of a human person as either male or female based on the organization of the body of such person for a specific reproductive role, as indicated by the person’s sex chromosomes, naturally occurring sex hormones, and internal and external genitalia present at birth."

Based off their own bill I am neither male nor female but both (intersex).

Internal and external genitalia of both, natural female sex hormones, but male chromosomes.

I will really have a sore neck if I shake my head as violently over this as I am tempted to do.  I really suspect that the guy, and it would be a male with low low melanin has his hand in his pocket as he thinks about the fame this will give him <redacted>. 🤬🤬🤬

This is absolutely chilling to read and think about. It is reminiscent of the fate of the Jewish people in occupied Poland and all of occupied Europe. If this does not work to "eradicate all transgender people," then what? First it was registration, then it was wearing the stars, then it was the ghettos, and then it was...

If it were any other identity group instead of "transgender," most if not all would decry it as unthinkable. While this bill (hopefully) has no chance to survive in its draconian form, and certainly not without legal challenges to it... I believe the intent of these bills is to try as many extreme things as possible in the hope that something sticks to the books after all the court challenges are over.

~Audrey.

This simply needs to be challenged on scientific grounds, and the proponents need to be charged with using public office for personal agendas. It also justifies the need for an overriding Federal Law to prevent this happening in the future. Australia has Federal anti discrimination laws which make race, physical handicaps, and gender identity protected attributes, so nobody can discriminate against these.

If these laws get up in Florida, other states will follow.

Hugs,

Allie

If I were to share this news with certain family members, they would brush it aside and say it won't happen. Getting real tired of these head-in-the-sand cisgender people.

They don't really care anyway.   They've no skin in the game.

They care and they care about me, but they are oblivious. I try to educate them, but they stick their heads in the sand out of fear for me (i.e.: denial) and/or for their love for the Republican party.

Yeah, it's extreme as all get-out, and certainly unconstitutional.  Given that it would effect cis-folk too, I doubt it will pass, but who knows?  It's too soon for any organization to file a lawsuit, but I have alerted my colleagues at the NCTE to be aware.

Given that this is an election year, and the R's nationally have nothing whatsoever to run on, all they have is running against us, against education, against Biden, against science. and against anything else they can think of to distract the "base."  At least with the base, it will work.

Part of my brain wants to post a snappy comeback about how awful Florida is treating the transgender population. I do not want to violate the terms of service. I simply vote with my feet. I will never set foot in Florida again. I lived there for 2 years about 20 years ago. Have not been down there since I left in 2005. Stories like this one are very demoralizing.

I don't think it really works even with the base.  Not around here, at least.  Its discouraging when there's so much they can run on and be right about...they absolutely refuse to do it.  They get votes by default at this point, just for NOT being Democrat and because there's basically nobody else.

I'm not sure if this bill is constitutional or not.  But it is onerous and icky.  It would be interesting to expand the issue and make a case for removing all ID itself as being unconstitutional.  May not be possible, but something I would definitely support.  Time to stop all the numbering, fingerprinting, addressing, taxing, bothering, persecuting, etc. and just leave folks alone regardless of who they are or aren't.  Sadly, I doubt that will happen.

I have to wonder what is next in Florida. Will they have reeducation camps for trans folks? Will they mandate tattoos with a prisoner number? Will they require jumpsuits to identify the trans folks? Any parallels to another time period in the world folks, perhaps from as far back as 90 years ago in a certain European country???

After us, I wonder who the next group of interest will be for states like Florida?

They're playing from the same playbook back then. Big difference now is that they have very advanced technology at their disposal to spread propaganda via social media and to track/monitor/control their "enemies" if they gain more power.

DeSantis is spending unprecedented vast sums of taxpayer money on legal funds to defend oppressive laws and periodically asking to increase that budget.

I am going to go into my most soundproof room and start laughing about this one so loud that it would probably get the neighbors calling authorities about me.  A 40 year career in government service, plus my degree in Public Administration gave me big hints that this was going to happen long ago.  The man has absolutely no sense of how governments are made to work, and how they work monetarily.  I am proud of my state on one issue here, bills that are proposed go through a group of lawyers and Public Administration experts, collectively know as Legislative Analysts who look at the bills and assign a Price Tag to the bill, which is their best estimate (always high) of the economic impact that it will have in terms or the state budget including state attorney fees, Judicial Salaries, Law enforcement expenses and other items that show how much taxpayer money could be used in a worst case scenario.  Then the price tag is MADE PUBLIC and can be seen by any interested person.  I saw a report of the bills dropped early in the game by the price tags on them for many years as part of my job in my agency.  They need more publicity of the pain in the pocket the taxpayers are going to have from him.  His opponents need to get that out and loud.

Same here.  My mind is a jumbled mess.  I'm no great philosopher, nor particularly educated.  Don't open my brain's closet, as all the junk might come tumbling out.

Its been a long day.  I had a good trip with my husband, kind of sorry I had to come home.  I mean, I love my partners, but I feel overwhelmed by the chaos at times.  It was nice being able to just drive and talk for two days, and not feel rushed at meals.  Stopped at a buffet off I-40 in Oklahoma, and I was able to nibble comfortably for two hours!  And taking a shower in a place where I don't have to bother hanging up the towels for later   Its all about the little things....

Hi @AmandaJoy Welcome, and nice to meet you! Congratulations on your Self-Affirmation!  As you've already discovered you're in great company here on this Forum.  It took me 60+ years also.   I understand your thrill and desire to proceed full-steam-ahead but that you've already realized to meter your Journey.  So, I will just end with what I tell most new Members when they arrive ... Hey @KayC I need another tutorial session on this place with you.  Maybe we can talk on Discord or the phone and I can share my screen and do a few messages while Asking you some questions about how this place is organized. How are you doing in the real world?? ... "real world" ???  What is this "real world" of which you speak?

@VickySGV Ha!  Finally figured THAT out!  Though I hate to confess just how long it took me to figure out WHERE to begin typing that "@" sign.  (So I just won't confess it!  ... giggles) I am not sure how private this message to you is ... for example I was going to make a guess about your location (you say near a major earthquake fault) and while there are many places in CA which fit that description, I live near one as well. But I am not sure if being asked that in a public forum is something you want, and I don't know if I am talking publicly or privately right now.  (So, obviously, till I learn what is what, I treat EVERYTHING as public). I think Kay might have already told me about the "@" sign but I forgot ... Guess I have blonde roots ... (I'm actually a Brunette ... Grey but the box keeps me a brunette ... still the number of mistakes I make and how slow I am with learning things constantly reminds me that I must be blonde on the inside!!  ... giggles)

@KymmieL do they have you on anti depressants?  Are they certain they are the right ones for you?  Has a psychiatrist been involved?  My physician first put me on an anti depressant and when things got worse for me he added one that was the initial cause of my cancer.  My therapist recommended I had a different need changed things. My psychiatrist agreed with the particular underlying condition and the choice of medications.   everyone is different but if one medication isn’t working there are many different types and different underlying conditions that require different treatments.  No meds mentioned because what didn’t work and what did all depends on your case, not mine.   Willow

To me loving myself means having the courage to live the way I want and to be me.     I hardly ever really like how I look but I feel good knowing I am trying to be the best version of myself that I can be. It is definitely a struggle sometimes though.  💗Cynthia

I had a five hour road trip today.  I’m trying to grow my hair out so I just pushed it back with a pink hair band, lipstick and gloss, no makeup.    White spaghetti strap top, short black skirt, white sandals with pink toenails!  A couple of rings and bracelets, necklace and hoop earrings.   I felt like a hot mess but it’s my favorite way to travel!

Glad you had a good day, @Willow Mine on the other hand sucked. I have been screwing up again, I even got written up. I may have to educate them on major depression and disability. not that it will work.    OH, well. May be another job I lost because of me. Yes, my depression is about down at the magma level   Kym

This bag is really working out for me.  I had worn out the back on my yin-yang bag so I picked this one up.  It wasn't long before I cut off the flap on it and braided a hemp strap for it.  The zipper is the best feature.  I can spin the bag around and I'm not afraid of losing anything.  I've taught myself to keep all the essential things in it and nothing more.  Here is what made the cut:   Notepad Sharpie Ballpoint Pen Teaspoon Glasses Phone (most of the time) Wired Headphones and/or Bluetooth Carmex and/or Lipstick Flash Drive Current Braiding Project Wallet Hair Clip   And on my keys I have my one inch Swiss Army Knife with scissors and a bottle opener that I like using with mason jar lids.   I don't miss pockets at all now.  The bag is fun and practical.  I can set it on the ground to get everything off my body.  If I need something, I'm looking for a fairly large object.  I always have something to work on with the braiding project.
