Saturday In The Park, It Was The Fourth Of July

By Sally Michelle Jackson

It was just a normal Saturday in most places around the world

The United States was celebrating a birthday with flags unfurled

People gathered in every park just for eating hot dogs and apple pie

Everywhere people smiling and soon watching fireworks in the sky

But there are people who are excluded

For one reason this happiness eluded

We are transgendered and so shut away

Not allowed to join in all the fun on this day

But we have a place that is like no other

A place to play and be with one another

It is a place that is big enough for all it is a playground

A playground so big that it stretches all the world round

With food on the grill and smiles all around

This is where lasting friendships are found

We were exiled from the human race

And sent to languish in cold cyberspace

Everyone is labeled and given a name

We are so different and yet all the same

So a wonderful woman who was always so loving and kind

Gathered her friends and made a safe place for others to find

And now for those who have ventured here and been so bold

We found this place and to our surprise it is anything but cold

There is so much love in our hearts as we gather

Here in the Internet with no fear of bad weather

I know that for me this is a very happy day

No insects, high heat or crowds in my way

Nothing but good friends dropping in when ever they may

So now I know I am here because this is where I want to stay

Chicago!!!

Saturday, in the park, thought it was the fourth of July... people laughing, people singing....

Sorry hon, Just thought of one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands!!

Yes, indeed.... I have spent the fourth of July here at Laura's!! Why? because for me, there is no place on earth or the universe where I would rather be!!!

Love you

And the best part, Brenda,

The man wasn't selling ice cream we were giving it away!

But here in the playground "a Bronx man still can tell stories his own way!"

You have got good taste!
