Probably Been Asked A Million Times, But...

Hello all,

I know coming out is something that all of us will have to do, or have done, at some point. So sorry if this has been asked before, but here goes:

I've decided to come out to my mom after several years of being in the closet. I have a sense of how she's going to react (I think she'll react well, even if she is upset at first), based on things she's said in the past about everyone should be accepted. But things are different when it's someone close to you. We've always been able to talk, but this would be the biggest discussion of my life.

I'm at the point where if I don't say something I'm going to burst, but I have no idea how to say it. I also don't have any clue as to when to do it. Soon, obviously, lol, but after that, I don't know. What's the best time to catch her to have this talk? I mean, not like in terms of time, but what mood, how busy is she, etc.

I don't want to beat around the bush, but I want to be gentle on her (I mean, her oldest son is about to tell her he wants to be a girl). How do I find the right mix of to the point and gentle?

Any advice would be HUGLEY appreciated

Nat i know exactly how you feel about coming out, but i can tell you this, it gets easier each time i do it.

I try to tell others when they are feeling good, not stressed by ,work, family or personal matters and when they have some free time, for parents and good friends i try to tell them face to face. When i told my 89 year old very religious stepfather i did it in person on a Friday night at dinner at his house, i had him read a letter i wrote cause i was too emotional to just come out and say it , after i gave him the book True Selves to read , reading the book really helped him kinda understand what i went thru all those years.

There are as many ways to come out as there are people...what works well for one may not work for another...

Thanks for the link, Donna. It did have a lot of great stuff. I'm slowly forming a plan and I hope to be out in the very near future. I'll let you all know how it goes. Thanks again for the great advice.
