so i just realized something for the past 15 years of my life as ive gotten closer to 18 my dads been afraid that congress will re institute the draft and has told me that hes afraid of me being drafted and getting killed fyi my dad became an adult during vietnam and was drafted for the army but joined the airforce instead but anyway i guess he wont have to worry bout me getting drafted anymore

Trust me, they won't want you dear, which is both fortunate for you but unfortunate over all. I was kicked out pre-don't-ask-don't-tell. I still think I would have been an excellent intelligence anaylyst, I would have even understood having to wait it out for my transition. Technically post op trans are accepted, but they find a way to drum people out.

The current situation is almost as bad as the draft!

When I was in Vietnam you only did one tour unless you asked for more...

These days people are getting sent to Iraq/Afghanistan 3...4. tours without even volunteering....

That just is not right!

The draft was awful, though...you never knew when your number would be called and interrupt your life....

I hope that it NEVER comes back!

That's great news. But I'll tell you if you aren't legally female by 18 you still have to register. I know it really sucks. *huggles* I don't even know if there is a way to legally remove yourself once you transition. I'd imagine there would be, but it probably sucks. I had to register (still am) I haven't received anything yet otherwise. I'll tell you that I will play chicken if they draft me and keep me. I have a bad hip is my first biggest thing. I'm staring at 2-3 hip replacements in my life...... that's a whole other story. But basically I'd either shoot myself or go no where. Once I was done with scouts I was soooooooooooooooooo ready to be done with that whole rank system and stuff.

Yeah......... I know a Colonel in the Marines. He was a leader in Operation Desert Storm. And has done at least 2 tours to Irag and I think 1 to Afghanistan. He is now on reserves, but I'm guessing will only retire when he dies .
