I was wondering, if you shave/waxed etc your legs what are good excuses for doing it,

I have once actually had them waxed by some female friends, and thats what i said.

but if i did it myself and they asked me i have no idea what i would say :S

Thanks,

Sam

Hey Samm

I dont shave or wax. I have an eletric tweezer, must say once you get the hair off, It comes back slowly and if you keep it tweesed the hair becomes lighter in color and softer.

WORKS GREAT!!

I assume Samm,

That you are referring to if someone asks you.

Well, first, usually nobody notices, but the ones who have known you for a long time.

I have been asked this question and I respond... "Because it feels good". Sometimes they will ask a follow up question, "what feels good? shaving or being shaved?" I reply.... "both"

The conversation never went beyond that and I have only had that conversation a couple of times in the many years I have been shaving.

In addition to shaving my legs, I shave my arms, armpits, chest, etc too. So that my arms for example are always exposed and hairless. You will be surprised how quickly people stop seeing you as being shaved and just treat you normally.

Hope this helps

Nobody notices or if they do they don't care.

Amazing! I was so paranoid for so long!

Oh if they ask? Skin condition.

I like that. A good, all purpose, short answer that doesn't leave room for a follow up question.

As usual. Lizzy, you've got it nailed.

I've stopped shaving, but when I start again (not sure when that will be) I've decided to just tell the truth. Say you like it. There's no reason to lie and say you're a swimmer or cyclist. Just say you like it. What's going to happen if you say that?

It does feel good :)

I've found that the biggest thing is being to nervous and anxious about people noticing. Because even if they do, most people just ask about it and then forget about it or leave it alone. Some people think it's odd or uncommon, but they really don't mind that much. Some people may make fun of you (my friend did that to me), so I stopped shaving. But I'm ready to start doing it again. I think I've gotten past that stage. Who cares if he makes fun of me? I think the more important thing is to be yourself because if you're confident about it, people won't bug you about it, and even if you do, you won't care so much because of your confidence.

I have a slightly different situation, since I have a wife and kids. I shaved my legs once this summer while my wife was away (we agreed that I would), and I figured I'd wear pants around the kids until it grew back. Unfortunately, they spotted it, and I had to tell them I just did it for fun. I really want to keep my legs shaved, and that will have to be another conversation with my wife, and I haven't gotten up the nerve to bring it up. She has told me she likes have a hair husband (and since I'm mostly bald, that doesn't leave a lot of options!). Plus, I don't dress around her because she really does not accept it at all, and she told me that having shaved legs makes her feel like she can't ignore my "little hobby". Sigh.

I can somewhat relate to you, as I recently told my wife the extents of my "little hobby" (at least the extent that I have figured out so far). Anyway, I am finding that she is more willing to accept things if I am willing to compromise with her on things. I will never get a really true look because I have agreed that I will not shave my facial hair. She loves my facial hair and she has always threatened me (not just since I told her, but since we have been dating), that if I ever shave my moustashe off she is going to get her hair cut short. :) I have never shaved it off. :)

Anyway, speaking at least for my wife (based on discussions we have had), this is hard for her to accept. She doesn't want to lose her manly husband that she married, though she wants me to be able to be happy and express myself. So we have had very open communication about things and I have tried my best to compromise as much as possible, and as a result she has been much more willing to accept more aspects of my "little hobby."

And to compound things, I also have a son (8 years old). I currently have no expectation to tell him anything, and I intend to hide everything from him. Many of the issues my wife has is due to the fear of what my son will do if he finds out. So, things like shaving your legs is rough because it is something that has to be explained to the kids. Personally, I just wear two pairs of pantyhose so you can't see my hair. Depending on the thickness of the hose, I sometimes even wear three pair. The image is the same, the tightness is actually a nice reminder throughout the day, and at the end of the day I can go back to full "manly-daddy" mode. Win Win!

Hang in there though, it is a process.

I am wondering this myself, what about guys in the locker room at school who see me every day as hairy, and then they suddenly see I've shaved?

Now, I have SUCH a stigma over this because last year in keyboarding, these two guys a grade above me always made fun of me for shaving my legs, and this one b***h girl did too, BUTT I NEVER DID SHAVE MY LEGS THAT WAS THE JOKE!

So if I shaved any regularly noticeable body part, I'd receive ridicule.

I agree saying that it feels good is a good answer. I my self do shave and wax my whole body to.I can say it not only makes me feel good, it make me have a clean felling to. Jonie :D

I am a fitness swimmer so the body shaving fits there. I found that noboy even noticed, or if they did, nobody gave it a second glance. My wife likes me to be Tom Selleck hairy so she's not supportive, but I tell her like I'd tell anyones else...it feels good. Of course my wife also jokes about her legs don't look as good as mine shaved...so I guess thats a good sign. The only time shes ever been really negative was once when I was watching TV...she could only see my legs and feet (toes were painted a dark burgandy and I wear a gold toe ring on the second toe of my left foot) and she told me she felt like she was hanging out with another woman. She was trying to be mean, however inside I was feeling, YEAH!!!!

I epilate all my body hair and have done so for about 18 months. This is not an option for me I have to do it.

I agree with the comments the other girls have made about how most people don't seem to notice and if they do they are usually too polite to say anything.

I have had close friends ask me sometimes, and I just tell them that I like the clean feeling and smoothness of not having body hair.

They leave it at that and we move on to other things.

BTW It isn't that unusual these days for males to shave their legs.

The biggest obstacles we face in our lives are usually our own doubts and anxieties.

Shave your legs and enjoy the feeling. :D

My wife also hated it when I initially started to epilate but now is used to it.

Yep, that's true. More men are begin to shave or trim more and more hair. Even the forbidden legs and armpits. I found a website dedicated just to armpit shaving, and it had a male section. The biggest problem we have is fearing negative reactions, but most people really don't mind or make that big of a deal out of it.

I epilade and shave arms, legs and chest. As this is Florida I wear shorts most of the time and short sleeved shirts usually open to the waist. I've never had anyone make a comment! If asked now I would probably say "because hairy legs look terrible under hose!"

A friend of mine in the 70's shaved his arms and legs at the beginning of every summer to tan. At least that was his excuse. Looking back on some of his actions and knowing what I know now, I wonder.

But I let my family know I'm tired of finding body hair all over my house. And that's true. But I don't have the drive to stay clean shaven, so I tend to do it in cycles. But no one seems to care anymore.

And looking back to the 60's and 70's, it was common to see hairy men in the movies. Now days, most are all clean shaven. So look upon it as keeping with the times. Plus to hear women talk around the office, most if not all say they can't stand body hair on a man. Especially the back hair. Another strike against me. Bummer. It's a good thing I'm learning to love me for me.

I used to blame the Florida heat and humidity and say it really makes things feel cooler. I also like Brenda's, "Yeah, so what?" comment. But it was actually this question that led to my coming out at work.

I was in the break room in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, (Next time anyone goes on Pirates of the Caribbean, just as the boat leaves the loading area and you look up at the little blue window above you (and probably wave at the operator there which is really distracting while you're trying to monitor 30 boats throughout the ride), you can think, "Wow, right up there, just off to the right is where Kairi came out of the closet!") and a co-worker was being razzed for his having to shave his legs due to losing a bet (Ooh, there's another one, say you lost a bet!) tried to divert some of his harassment to me, saying I shaved my legs too. When I was questioned about it, I started to give my heat excuse, but then decided, eh, I've been on HRT nearly a year, it's time to take the next step, and spilled it all! It was a positive response, or should I say, me mateys didn't hang me from the yardarm or make me walk the plank, but rather raised the Jolly Roger and set we to pillaging and plundering our little black hearts out! Yar!

Kelise your a hoot!

Oddly enough nobody has ever asked me about shaving my legs, I think since most of my body hair is blond people assume it's there and just don't notice it? Who knows.

I have been pointed out for shaving my arm pits though, I just say it really helps to control body odor and they should try it.

On the other hand most people I work with think I'm from another planet so I doubt anything I say or do surprises anyone.

I have three within a two block walk! You'd think I was in Seattle already! The one I have always gone to is the quintessential "local coffee shop" though; local artist's works on the wall, drinks named after customers and local geography, and it's run down just enough to feel homey. Also, I can bring my 20oz coffee mug in and get it filled for the price of a small! :D

Eczema was my excuse. *high fives!*   It's lovely when you get a nice interaction like that. Yesterday I got a "you're so sweet" from a man who I held the door for, I don't think he saw all of me until after he'd walked past so he only picked up on my outfit and body appearance. I was so paranoid that I used too male of a voice in return, but c'est la vie. I felt really nice after it though.   I tend to try to put in a lot of effort. If I wear make up, it has to be perfect, etc. I put this pressure on myself because I, too, don't have a chance in h-e-double hockey sticks at "passing".  So, I try not to make myself an "easy target".

It's just the opposite here.  There are a ton of local boutique coffee roasters in this area.  There is no excuse for bad coffee here, which is why I am always surprised when I get mediocre truck-stop coffee in restaurants.

It’s a huge difference, the laser has done wonders. I still have some stragglers, but I hope a few more sessions to try to zap those. Mostly what’s left are the white/blonde hairs, they still need a shave but they don’t really cause me much dysphoria.   I do use makeup, I barely go out without liner and mascara these days. Don’t tend to do a full face, but when I go for a little coverage I use tinted moisturizer and a little concealer under setting powder. Here’s me today, with about as much makeup as I go out with (forgive me the wings, I struggled today…), I went and got my hair done, so I had to look good for the ladies.

This is me as well. I wear dresses and skirts exclusively.  That is pretty obvious.  When I get misgendered, it's not by mistake.

I'm glad to hear it! Fruits and veggies time! I just had a greek yogurt with flax meal and blueberries and now I'm feeling better about that! I am so glad you're OK!   Just finished my second cup of coffee after an appointment with my normal stylist, I haven't see her since November! First time see her since going femme full time. I'd texted her before the appointment, just in case, but she has been super sweet the whole time. Not much hair ended up on the floor, but I'm going to need the back trimmed before long but for now I just got some shaping done.   Ugh, I'm sorry to hear that. My guess is your neighbor won't be paying the medical bill...

Doubt it, most people against the T are also against the LGB, I am bi and it all seems to intersect one way or another. Trans people are "new" in the eyes of the public so its just a weird thing for them all.

I have the same feeling as you. I often wish I had started HRT earlier or was on puberty blockers, maybe I could have been taller than 5'7. But there's nothing you can do about it now, that's life and as much as it sucks and seems pointless at times you have to work with what you are given. "Passing isn't the end all be all" I hear a lot but to me it is everything, as much as that may sound like an insane position It is just how I feel.   Anyway, on the topic of your mother, mine had the same sentiment and mostly still does along with my father. Im not sure how old you are but you seem to be around my age or younger, I am 17. But most families don't know how to deal with it and they will probably see you as your original gender no matter what you do. Their comments mean nothing really because in the end when adulthood rolls around you can just leave or at least have some independence from them.   I would also not compare yourself to other males, it will eat you alive. I just remind myself that I will get there, maybe I won't be the pillar of masculinity but ill pass one day. Envy is the thief of happiness or something like that.

I can never find coffee that matches good restaurants coffee.  The closest iv come so far was when I accidentally made a pot last week with less water than I had meant to use.  But that still wasn’t right.  Now I’ve heard put a little salt in with the ground coffee or add baking soda but I have no clue how much to use.   home baked pie in the local cafe is the best, but the best Key Lime pie was from a place called The Fish House in Key Largo. One thing they do differently is the topping is meringue not whipped cream. But it’s also made from real key limes.  An advantage of being in the keys.   willow

Post 10 “My Feminine Presentation”   I have no illusions about fooling people.  It’s a pretty safe bet that most of the people I meet or interact with recognize I was not born female.  Going “stealth” just isn’t in the cards for me.  Despite this, I am usually recognized and addressed as a woman.       As an example, I recall a past shopping trip to a department store.  After finding a nice purse, I took it the checkout counter.  The store associate took my credit card, rang up my purchase, and when she handed my purchase and credit card back to me, she said: “thank you Miss Stone,” despite the fact that my credit card had my male name on it.  Clearly, she recognized I was presenting as a woman, but when I thought about it, I realized I had made it easy for her to choose the correct gender response.  The way I was dressed, the way my makeup and nails were done, ensured there was no ambiguity regarding my gender.     In fact, I can’t remember the last time somebody mis-gendered me while presenting in my feminine persona.  But that’s because putting such effort into my feminine appearance, I don’t give people much of a chance to be confused.  Occasionally, one of my trans friends will accuse me of being overdressed, and in some situations, they might be right, but in my defense, I feel the need to present in a way that supports the feminine woman inside of me.  I’m a “girly-girl” by nature, and it leads me to be overtly feminine when it comes to the fashions I choose, and why I spend so much on the details of my appearance.  I simply want my appearance to match the way I feel.   Because my girl time is limited, I always want to make the most of it. This is another key factor driving my upscale feminine presentation.  I honestly believe life is too short to wear pants and comfortable shoes.  Things might be different for me if I was living fulltime as a woman instead of only part-time.  I’m sure, for practicality’s sake, I would dress casually more often, but I know I’d still retain my penchant for a more upscale or girly-girl appearance.   Another one of my friends asked me one time if I worried that my appearance caused me to stand out.  She seemed to think it was important for me to blend in and not bring attention to myself.  I may not be typical in this regard, but I don’t actually want to blend in.  I’m proud of the effort I put into my appearance, and I like being noticed for it.  As I stated earlier, I will never be able to achieve true stealth, so for me, it seems wasted effort to try blending in.   I am comfortable with my feminine appearance, and occasional criticisms don’t bother me, but this wasn’t always the case.  For a long time, I thought there was something wrong with me.  Within the transgender community I kept hearing that it is more important to be comfortable and practical.  Dress casually and blend in seemed the general consensus.  Because my views were quite the opposite, I wondered if perhaps I wasn’t trans at all.  Maybe my perceptions regarding feminine appearance came from a completely different place.    The assumption I made was that instead of a “girly” feminine side driving my appearance motivations, maybe the catalyst was more akin to a fetish.  It was a sobering thought, but maybe I was in actuality, a prototypical transvestite?  For the longest time I couldn’t shake this concern, and it caused me to question everything I thought I knew about myself.  But the questioning phase, while difficult, turned out to actually be beneficial.   The first thing I questioned was why we want to blend in when we are trans, and the answer is, we have a legitimate reason for not wanting to stand out.  The second thing I questioned was whether cis women had the same concern about the need to blend in.  I think the answer is no.  In fact, there always seems to be levels of competition among women regarding their appearance, so in many instances they actually seek to stand out from their peers.    The desire to put so much effort into my appearance, while not typical for everyone, seems to be a fairly common female behavior.  Since the female half of my personality exhibits this behavior as well, I cling to the idea that just because I like to stand out doesn’t mean my motivations are fetish driven.  This was a happy epiphany for me, and it turns out the fetish concern and the questioning phase that followed, brought me to a clearer understanding of who I am.  Possessing a better understanding of why I am the way I am makes me comfortable expressing a feminine appearance that leans in a more girly-girl direction.   Ultimately, the way we choose to portray our gender identity is a personal choice.  Each of us has to be comfortable with that choice.  I’m a part-time woman, so consequently, things like GRS, HRT, or feminizing surgery aren’t the right choices for me.  Therefore, I rely on clothing, makeup, and other typically feminine fashion details to ensure I’m recognized as a woman.  I acknowledge that my choice may not be typical but it has proven to be extremely effective.   Hugs,   Sally
