Trans Singer Resource

Greetings all!

I am creating this post so that, for those who are interested, there is a list of trans singers and possibly links to their Youtube videos.

I love music, of all genres and languages. I love many many many singers. However, the inspiration I found, seeing other trans singers, hearing their voices, seeing their success, and adoring fans... it all inspired me. It showed me that I too can become the person I want to be. I can be successful. I can be accepted. I NEEDED trans role models in my life, and sadly there are no Big Broghters/Big Sisters for trans people.

Back when I started my transition the internet was a different place. There was TS roadmap... and don't get me wrong, I love Calpernia Addams... but the whole site was dedicated to selling you some very important information you NEEDED TO LIVE your new life as a new person at a high price. There were forums... and they were often vandalized and attacked. It wasn't as safe as it is here. The members welcomed you with open arms but... the board itself was full of adult content, members put down other members in petty attemtps to feel better about themselves I guess... and so I turned to youtube. I have lived in a small town in Cali and a small town in Arkansas (yuck) for the past 11 years... These videos lead me to the only living source of positive TS role models I had. A source of inspiration, self confidence, and something to aspire to be... as song has always been in my heart and soul, and puberty nearly robbed me of my singing voice.

Many of them are Foreign Language and most of them are Pop Music. Please refrain from criticism as to genre... I understand you may not like this type of music but you don't need to insult it. I won't be insulting the bands you listen to so please do the same favour here for all interested parties... These are the TS singers I know about. I hope if anyone has others to add they will add them. The singers I follow are MtF but I know there are some amazing FtM singers as well and so I hope people will share links and info about them as well :)

Lets support our Trans entertainers in the world! Even if we don't care for their voice, speak their language, don't appreciate their musical style, humour, etc, let us tell them good work! Please keep it up for future generations! Please continue to shine a positive light on our people!

Now for my list - (Under construction)

Namoli Brennet: A MtF American Folksinger! www.namolibrennet.com Namoli often sings at pride festivals across the country, and while I do not know too much about her, the few songs I have listened to are very profound.

x_x I just wanted to post links... not videos... oy...

Harisu: A South Korean MtF pop singer, model and actress! Her beauty and talent as both a singer and dancer are what inspired me to pursue transition the first time, and the second time. Harisu is more than an entertainer, She is a Trans, Gay, Human rights activist in her native country and throughout asia. She is only the second Trans person to legally have her gender changed in her country and the first to marry! She has opened an orphanage because Korea refuses to allow Harisu and her husband to adopt. She opened a night club called Mix Trans after many LGBT entertainers in Korea commited suicide in protest to the discrimination they faced due to Korea's extremely conservative culture. Mix Trans is a place where people from the LGBT community can gather in peace and acceptance in Korea. She is also noted for helping a young chinese MtF pay for her GRS. I could go on and on about Harisu but if you want to know more you can PM me or do the research yourself. For now, enjoy the videos! Listed in order of release date.

Dana International: Dana is a MtF singer from Israel. Her most famous song, Diva, was nominated to be Israel's entry into the Eurovision song contest in 1998, and won! Dana would later go on to win the Eurovision song contest that year! Dana is famous throughout europe and has released songs in English, French, Russian, Gibberish, and of course her native, Hebrew. She mainly performs pop and house music. Dana is very active in Israel's LGBT community and she helps to fight for political, social, and cultural change in her country.

Ne Angely: A MtF Pop duet from the Ukraine. Very Cher-esque vocally. It is hard to find much info on them, however despite fading from view they remain in the spotlight in their native country and continue to release new albums. I have read their songs are in Russian? They once did a song together with Dana International. If anyone has more to add about them I would love to know.

Lady: A MtF Pop Group from South Korea. Following Harisu leaving her major record label to found her own company and produce her own music, her original label commisioned a search to create a new MtF girl group. Unfortunately Lady did not fare well, their first album being remixes of the same 3 tracks was released in Korea and Thailand with little success and in 2009 the group officially disbanded.

Venus Flytrap: A pop group of MtF "Katoey" From Thailand. Venus Flytrap was formed by Sony in response to the Korean group Lady. The original five girls remained active for a few years but eventually two left the group. A reality television show called "Search for the missing puzzle" was filmed in which the remaining members found new girls to replace the two who had left. Despite the addition of some incredible talent to the group they have since faded from the spotlight. Four members continue to perform live shows at film openings and other events after their fifth was in a near fatal motorcycle accident and had to take a leave from the group to recover.

Kim Petras: Formerly considered the worlds youngest post op MtF at 16, though she now has competition for this title down in Mexico. She hails from Germany and was discovered after she posted videos of herself singing on youtube. Her videos are in english. She is still very new and so where she will go and what she will do remains to be seen.

Fade Away -

Unfortunately the only others I know of are not as widely popular or well known and those listed about, but videos existed on youtube last time I searched for them and they once had pages on myspace...

Nikka: Another talented pop singer, MtF from Israel.

Jouel: A nightclub performer and house music singer from Israel.

Aderet: Another nightclub and house music singer from... Israel :)

I hope someone here finds this list helpful. Those who watch the videos I hope you enjoy them as much as I have. Please add any videos, info, news about new trans singers etc here!

Risa,

Thank you so much for this post. These ladies are inspirational and talented. If you would like to read as well as listen, then might I suggest you go to Dr. Lynn Conway's site and you will find a link to "Transexual Successes" these are trans ladies who have had a successful transition and have a successful career and/or home life. I find these very uplifting, as there is an airline pilot who made the transition. I am a corporate pilot, myself and hope to transition on my next job.

I was just thinking about that pilot and how lifetime should do a movie on her yesterday! Waaaaaay back when I first started transitioning I found Lynn Conways site and read that story. I am pretty sure it was also she who introduced me to Harisu and Lady. You are right her site has many inspirational stories. I should look it up again. Thank You! Its been years since I have visited it. Need to refresh my memory. :)

@KymmieL do they have you on anti depressants?  Are they certain they are the right ones for you?  Has a psychiatrist been involved?  My physician first put me on an anti depressant and when things got worse for me he added one that was the initial cause of my cancer.  My therapist recommended I had a different need changed things. My psychiatrist agreed with the particular underlying condition and the choice of medications.   everyone is different but if one medication isn’t working there are many different types and different underlying conditions that require different treatments.  No meds mentioned because what didn’t work and what did all depends on your case, not mine.   Willow

To me loving myself means having the courage to live the way I want and to be me.     I hardly ever really like how I look but I feel good knowing I am trying to be the best version of myself that I can be. It is definitely a struggle sometimes though.  💗Cynthia

I had a five hour road trip today.  I’m trying to grow my hair out so I just pushed it back with a pink hair band, lipstick and gloss, no makeup.    White spaghetti strap top, short black skirt, white sandals with pink toenails!  A couple of rings and bracelets, necklace and hoop earrings.   I felt like a hot mess but it’s my favorite way to travel!

Glad you had a good day, @Willow Mine on the other hand sucked. I have been screwing up again, I even got written up. I may have to educate them on major depression and disability. not that it will work.    OH, well. May be another job I lost because of me. Yes, my depression is about down at the magma level   Kym

This bag is really working out for me.  I had worn out the back on my yin-yang bag so I picked this one up.  It wasn't long before I cut off the flap on it and braided a hemp strap for it.  The zipper is the best feature.  I can spin the bag around and I'm not afraid of losing anything.  I've taught myself to keep all the essential things in it and nothing more.  Here is what made the cut:   Notepad Sharpie Ballpoint Pen Teaspoon Glasses Phone (most of the time) Wired Headphones and/or Bluetooth Carmex and/or Lipstick Flash Drive Current Braiding Project Wallet Hair Clip   And on my keys I have my one inch Swiss Army Knife with scissors and a bottle opener that I like using with mason jar lids.   I don't miss pockets at all now.  The bag is fun and practical.  I can set it on the ground to get everything off my body.  If I need something, I'm looking for a fairly large object.  I always have something to work on with the braiding project.

Mine was Hatshepsut, an Egyptian pharaoh who had to carry herself as a male in order to rule. I was completely facinated by her as a student.

Well it was a good day at work I got everything done I needed to do. My audits came out right and everything.  I had to fix the printer on one pump. It wouldn’t cut the paper and needed two parts replaced.  The District Manager left us Thank you bags,  Murphy Bucks and candy.  We can use Murphy bucks to buy things in the store, or pay for gas.  I guess next week the Area Manager will be around to check on things.  He would be the next layer higher.  Well my eyelids are starting to get heavy, time for a nap.thats the only thing about opening the store it definitely causes me to need a nap.

Interesting point. I was raised Catholic and was intensely intrigued by the lives of saints. Similar to your obsession with Mulan, I was particularly drawn to Joan of Arc, a 15th century saint who took on the guise of a man to lead the French army to victory over the English in the Hundred Years' War. Later, she was sold out by the Burgundians to the English who brought multiple charges against her as a heretic, including claiming she could communicate directly with God (which undermined the church's authority), and wearing men's clothes. At one point, while imprisoned, she was made to dress in women's clothes, which she did, but was later found again in men's attire which she said she preferred. She was eventually burnt at the stake at age 19. Rather gruesome tale, but not atypical of the stories of Catholic martyrs.

I just read something a FB friend posted about guilt.  I am changing it somewhat for here.   There are things you should not feel guilty about because they are not wrong.  Being transgender is one. People like to send us on guilt-trips about it, intentionally or unintentionally.   There are things you have actual guilt about whether you feel guilty or not.  If you murder someone, you may not feel any guilt.   The FEELING of guilt can be widely separated from objective guilt. All of us need to train ourselves to not feel guilty about things we are not guilty of,, and to feel guilty about the things we are guilty of.  It is not easy.

Good news. That just means you're normal!   Understand that thoughts leading to thoughtlessness is a VERY high ideal. Those who aspire to that may spend their entire life working on it and only ever glimpse momentary stillness. In fact, I'm reminded of a story which was relayed to me recently about a yogic master who was interviewed and asked - In deep meditation, how long can you sustain a still mind before another thought creeps in? You may expect the master to reply hours or perhaps even days. His answer - 7 seconds. The thing is, as long as you're operating with a human brain, thoughts will go on. In Bhagavad Gita chapter 6, verse 34, Arjuna (who represents every individual) complains to Lord Krishna (who represents the Higher Self), "The mind is very restless, turbulent, strong and obstinate, O Krishna. It appears to me that it is more difficult to control than the wind." Such is the nature of mind. The difference, though, is in learning gradually to not identify with thought, but rather to become the dispassionate witness of thoughts, like clouds passing in the sky, or often more poignant a simile, like high speed trains rushing by.
