What's the one with Bruce Durn as the gardener on the space station with the three robots. In the end he saves the garden and blows himself up?

That would be "Silent Running," an outstanding movie of a quieter nature than most sci-fi's.

Every time I get turned down for a job I think of Gattica. Frown. just more Jody,

No more Gattica for you!!

And by the way, in P.M.ing you earlier, I thought as something that I should have perhaps mentioned here.

To show the impact that the Alien movies had on my family, my youngest (my 23 year old daughter) is named Ripley.

Seriously.

Thank you Carolyn, yes it is silent running. I saw a documentary of how they made that. The robots were paraplegic folks in styrene covers. That movie was so cool! I loved the outer space ATVs too. "Valley Forge, Valley Forge..." Jody out!

Just a couple of interesting comments here from someone who lives inside of the movies - The original Star Trek movie was only the second Sci-Fi movie directed by Robert Wise, the first was 28 years earlier - The Day The Earth Stood Still.

The soundtrack for Silent Running was written by Peter Schickele (the man behind PDQ Bach)

Sorry JJ, not only could Queen's soundtrack not save Flash Gordon but neither could Timothy Dalton as Prince Barin of Aboria, Brian Blessed as Prince Vultan of the Hawkmen in Sky City or even Max Von Sydow as Ming the Merciless - it seems that nothing can save a movie from producer Dino De Laurentiis.

Alien - My favourite all-time film. I think it is just perfect, and im actually more attracted to the sci-fi element of the film instead of the horror. I have actually had dreams inside the world and mythology of Alien. Also love Aliens, my favourite film as a child, but Alien 3 is more mesmerising imo. It's a flawed film, but I find everything about it to be more interesting than Aliens, ie. acting, direction, set design, score, tone, etc.

Bladerunner, The Terminator, The Thing, Brazil, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Akira, Videodrome, Children of Men and the original Planet of the Apes would round out the rest of my Top 10 sci-fi related films, with Aliens & Alien 3 not far behind them.

HM: The Abyss, Stalker

Anyone who would say that about De Laurentis is A-Okay in my book!

I used to say that a law should be passed prohibiting him from entering a sound stage!

And speaking of bad-even the Queen music couldn't redeem Flash Gordon which wasn't really sci-fi anyway in my book. More pure camp

Maybe it was the crossdresser in me but I liked that movie. Mainly for the wild outfits and settings. Yeah, the plot was thin and the effects were substandard but there were some hot costumes that I would love to fit into!

Sorry, just had my shot and can't stop to think. Rocky Horror Picture Show?

Oh yes! I always wanted to dress up like Frankenfurter! Never had the courage to do it though.

Too many to name. One I do have to (or three if you want to get technical) is Star Wars. I'm a super Star Wars fan.

Also pretty sure you can classify this as sci-fi, but I also have to mention Back to the Future.

My favorite sci-fi flick is "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind". Recently was shown at The Lagoon Theater in Minneapolis, MN only one night a couple of months ago. I went to the early showing at 7 PM. The movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still" is showing at The Heights Theater in Crystal, MN. That would be a 20 mile drive for me. At the price of gas around $3.85 a gallon, don't think I will go.

I recall that Close Encounters (if I remember correctly) came out around the time that Star Wars did. It seemed that SW was robbing all of the thunder and I felt bad as I believed that whole compelling mystique surrounding alien contact and government cover-ups was (and still is) a sizable obsession in the world. And though I cannot say that Spielberg revealed where all the bodies are buried, he simply tackled a topic dear to my heart.

And of course this was the first film to ever be rereleased under the heading of a "Director's cut".

Have to say Star Wars IV, V, VI. I too am a Star Wars geek. Out of the three, episode V The Empire strikes back. hands down.

"Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the force'"

"Don't try and frighten us with your sorcerers ways Lord Vader, your sad devotion to that ancient religion has not help you conger up the stolen data tapes, or given you clairvoyance enough to find the rebels hidden base...eh....eh......eh..........."

".......I find your lack of faith disturbing."

[Obi-wan]"You don't need to see his identification" [stormtrooper]"We dont need to see his identification"

[Obi-wan]"These aren't the droids your looking for" [stormtrooper]"These aren't the droids were looking for"

[Obi-wan]"He can go about his business" [stormtrooper]"Go about your business"

[Obi-wan]"Move along" [stormtrooper]"Move along, move along"

Such a geek hehe.

Does Resident evil and Underworld count as sci-fi?

Not Star Wars I, II, & III?

Resident Evil, sure, Think about it: Mary Shelley is given credit for inventing science fiction with Frankenstein, which amounts to a scientific attempt to diddle with a human (albeit a dead one) going awry. Resident Evil is a bit more scientifically advanced, what with the 'T' virus, but it amounts to the same thing. Dr. Frankenstein would have loved the NEMESIS program!

Underworld? Not sure. Both vampirism and lycanthrope are organic issues, i.e. viruses not grown in a test tube. However, the vamps use some serious science in their endless effort to stay on top of the situation.

And when you come right down to it, there's Kate Beckinsale, so who cares?

Nice crossing your path!

Blade Runner. The book was called, Do androids dream of electric sheep? Can't think why they changed the name.

Forbidden planet. I find it odd to watch now. I just expect Lesley Neilson to be funny.

2001. The only film I can think off where space was actually quiet.

Here is a good one from the old days - 20 Million Miles To Earth - it stared William Hopper (Paul Drake from the original Perry Mason series) and featured the special effects of Ray Harryhausen.

There were a number of movies that featured his special effects - he was the king of stop action photography taking over from the first master - Willis O'Brien (King Kong, Mighty Joe Young and all of the sequels).

Of course they just remade Total Recall and it, too, was taken from a Philip K. penis story. The original title was 'We Can Remember It for You Wholesale'.

Personally, I find his titles cutesy and his prose unbearable. His ideas, however, inspire others to make good movies (or in the case of Blade Runner, magnificent movies!)

As to the title change (Electric Sheep/Blade Runner) not sure why, but in the closing credits they mention that the name of the film was suggested by William Burroughs. I'd love to hear how that came about.)

ok, too hard to choose.. my first instinctive answer was.. those old cheapo sci fis, the ones that are so bad they make you laugh.

on the other hand..there's a lot of really good sci fis..some are more like the teats with your conception of reality thing, others are, the type that make you jump when the commercial pops on, and look behind the doors..

the old sci fis sometimes didnt have thr best effects,, sometimes youd never see more than a shadow..but they worked with that suspense thing till youre nuts... not like later where they just show everything, whatever it is. sometimes the things you can think up are much scarier than the ones hollywood comes up with.

Sounds to me like your ready to savor a Mystery Science Theatre 3000 marathon.

Now if you'll invite me, I'll bring popcorn plus regular butter, caramel butter, & garlic butter. Also Milk Duds, which are the perfect 'one box will last the entire movie' candy. And with my mouthful of new dentures (& the crowd goes wild!) I can really savor sticky candy now.

(Not to be confused with Candy McBride, the enjoying of whom would require no teeth at all!)

Star Wars (All of them)

Stargate (the first one and the following tv series and straight to dvd movies)

Bladerunner

Event horizon

Does no one love Metropolis? I mean if you love Blade Runner, then you're cool with synthetic women dwelling in some subterranean dystopia. It's close.

Event Horizon. I thought the best part was the title.

Has anyone seen this new Tom Hanks thing yet? What, Atlas Moon, or something like that?

"Cloud Atlas," which I keep thinking has something to do with cloud computing. It arrives in theaters on 10-26, and I plan to see it. Any movie directed by a transwoman is going to get my attention. :D

Germany has more castles than there are McDonald's in the United States. Yep, you heard that right. Germany is estimated to have 25,000 castles, and there are around 13,000 McDonald's locations in America.   In Washington state, there's a real-life law stating it's illegal to kill bigfoot and other sasquatch-like creatures.

DREAD f you’re anticipating something positive, you’re probably motivated to summon all your patience to wait for it—and sometimes for extended time periods. It may be counter-intuitive, yet in certain instances such waiting can itself be gratifying. Consider Carly Simon’s song “Anticipation,” the old Heinz ketchup ads, and—especially—recent research pointing in the opposite direction as regards awaiting something highly aversive. In this post I won’t be reviewing ketchup commercials, but I will be exploring some intriguing research on dread-infused anticipation.

So an update from me.   Had my endo appointment last night. Went very well and they are sending 3 months supply of estrogen (estradoil patches) and the anti-androgens whilst my Dr gets a shared care agreement sorted out. So happy, should start HRT tomorrow!! Cost for the 3 month supply is £70 total for me, so not too bad. Not told my parents about this yet, but them being in spain, not sure they need to know yet.   Can't wait to start, just got to think about where to put the patches now and wait for the changes...

Good Morning    well it’s Friday for most, pay day for some.  For me it’s pay day but not Friday.  I work the same opening shift tomorrow.  I typically have Friday on Saturday and Monday on Tuesday.     @KymmieL it does sound like your shop has an issue and you are smack in the thick of it.  The new gal or guy often is.  We have an issue with new people not getting fully trained before being turned loose on customers.  Some struggle through it and some quit because of it.  I try to get them working with customers as quickly as I can but I stay right with them observing, helping, even jumping in when things are getting backed up to keep the stress down.  Not everything comes up during training so when things do, even later after trying is done, I try to help and explain.  Our ASM feels that once she has you scanning barcodes and taking money she is done training.  Generally, refuses to train me on things that she does, and questions why I’m doing something that she normally handles when I’ve been told to do it as part of my advancement training.     She and the cashier involved both keep trying to toss the manager under the bus over a hours of work issue and shifts.  I tell her I realize her issues and I’ll work what ever she needs.  Because of that I tend to get a better more consistent schedule.   Well, time to say Happy Trails to you, until we meet again.   Hi ho Silver, away   Willow

That does get you the 'starting point' for cup size, but manufacturers, style, breast shape, etc... will effect the results.    Step one is of course finding the proper band fit, then figuring out the approximate cup size with the calculations. Of course you need to try on a few styles after that in different cup sizes close to your measured result until you get the perfect fit.    I have bras in a DD that fit just like my bras in DDD both from Torrid but different styles.    I have some DDD's that fit awesome and some that are a bit loose, but I measure a 46G. It's not wonder that 80% of women are wearing them wrong bra.

I firmly believe I drank entirely to much for about 25 years. Got drunk every day. This was my coping mechanism to keep hiding deep inside that I was a woman. I miss a lot of signs over the years. Now I drink mabye 1 or 2 beers a day don't even get a buzz anymore. totally accept myself and on regret is that I hide that part of my self which  truly makes me happy being violet 💜. I wasted a lot of time before  being self destructive and had no clue I was just hiding th real me
