Did your taste in music change with your realization/transition?

I ask because I notice that since I realized I'm trans I'm listening to a lot more female-fronted music like Halestorm, In This Moment, Otep, etc...I'm not sure if it's because I'm getting in touch with my inner girl or if I'm just able to be honest enough with myself to not mind what anyone might say about me listening to "girl metal". Has happened to anyone else?

I definitely feel more at ease listening to more girlie music now then before. this is mostly due in fact that I no longer have to worry about being called gay for listening to said such music.

Yeah, like Megan said, I don't have to worry much about it now. I still listen to the heavier stuff but now I listen to a lot of pop and happier stuff.

I to changed my taste in music , or i should say widened it. to encompass alot more music dance and club stuff mostly. anything with a dancable beat goes over well with me. really i just feel i do not have enough anger in me any more to listen to harder stuff.

I am still glued to Air1 Christian Alternative rock, just as hard, just as loud! Love it all! The changes for me are, I can dance all the time now and sing about an octave higher. Now wait a minute, I didn't say better, just higher... I love girl bands and always have, I think it is 50-50 between boy and girl bands. I do listen to other music too, but my least favorite is oldies rock and roll. That stuff is so worn out and it was all about HIM, I am much more eclectic and free from his shell. I do love Pink, she is way over the top. I still love Delta Blues, Robert Johnson will always be my favorite. I wish I could slide like Sonny Landreth, I love his South of I-10 album. Bonnie Raitt and Joan Osborn can sing to me all night, they can make a good girl hot! Whoo...

I think its just part of the opening up process as a developing human being. After all once we face our transgender issues whats a itty bity thing like how we express our taste in music.

Even 20 years ago i listened to women artists more than others. Today i just have more feelings going threw me as i listen. My like for the heavier rock has totally gone away.

For over 3 decades I mostly avoided listening to music much because it touched me too deeply and in places I just couldn't afford to go. When I did listen it was to country. Some songs brought tears every time. One in particular "Desperado' by the Eagles. Didn't know why but it was gut wrenching for me. Once I faced my truths and came to terms with them all that changed, I still listen to that song but it no longer tears at me and I now understand exactly what it was that hurt so much.

I like rock now, Been catching up on the lost decades. Then ran into Queen and am still exploring them. Their music is so diverse. And the men involved so unusual that it has fascinated me. I think perhaps too Freddie Mercury's story resonates for us in many ways as well. Bad thing about getting so involved in Queen is that moving on is a challenge since few bands have the depth vocally and musically that they do. So many of their songs are particularly apt for my life and for our community. No real problem. I'll just play them as long as I enjoy them. Not too fond of the heavy metal stuff they put out though.

So yes my music tastes changed. A lot.

In fact a music video-not Queen -changed my life in a way. I was watching it and realized that the frontman was built exactly like I was when younger and fit except my waist was smaller and I had a chest but the proportions of hands, legs, shoulders, everything was the same. Made me realize the possibility I might get back somewhere close to that again and that I COULD look male. My shoulders and skeletal proportions have always fallen in the male range in proportion to each other anyway. So I decided to try instead of ending it all as I had planned. Made it too. I'm the same size now that singer was then though he claims to be taller. Funny how music can impact out lives. I think had my mind not been also involved with the song at the time I would never have let myself make the connection and dare the dream.

I now listen to music anywhere for 4 to 10 hours a day.

I like most types of music. I gravitate toward "Classic rock and R&B" male or female. When the local band Heart hit the big time in the 70's, I was floored by their talent, and inspired by Ann and Nancy Wilson big time. Now in this age, self acceptance of my condition has probably broadened my appreciation for music I may have passed on earlier in life. It's maturation of musical tastes with me. I live the music, living life in a song.

I have noticed I've been listening to alot more girl bands as well, Stuff like Flyleaf, Kittie, Evanescence, etc. I can't say though my music tastes have changed as I've always liked and listen to these bands. If anything I listen to these bands in my car and practice my voice by singing along with them. I will also say though I never had any shame playing music I like .... and after a trip down a heavly traveled roadway blasting Barbie Girl (in guy mode) then nothing you can play after that can make you feel embarressed ... lol

I always listen to girly music when I am femme mode. My favourite is Celine Dion. I used to love singing "Power Of Love" in my girly voice wearing a black dress and black tights that I purged long ago. I was interested to note on this site that one member likes to dance along to Abba, I have done that as well. I have felt so girly singing along to female singers that I have been on the verge of tears.. Its probably not fashionable now but I love the songs of ViIcki Carr from the sixites, I get so immersed in a female role. It makes me wonder if should have been a female impersonator, I would not have have the courage but it would be a dream come true to be dresssed from head to toe as a glamorous dive. Do other members feel like this.

I listened to anything, so that can't change much. But I listen to girl bands a bit more now, but I still listen to everything else.

Still as varied as ever from Abba to ZZ-top and everything in between including Sibelius, BB King, Donna Summer, Chuck Berry, Celiune Dion etc. etc.
