Female Guitarists

I truly enjoy watching the performances of female guitarists.

It's my opinion that not enough females play the guitar on stage.

They do an amazing job! :score:

If you enjoy female guitarists, I hope you will share more about the guitarist you enjoy!

I am listening to Orianthi this afternoon! (Voodoo Child and more)

Love her performances!

If you like classical guitar you might want to check out some recordings by Liona Boyd, living in Canada, when I was in record stores (remember those?) she recorded under the Angel EMI label.
She had a wonderful Christmas album.
Love ya,

HI Sally and Christina! :D

I love all kinds of guitar music! (I love all kinds of music, yet since this thread is entitled, "Female Guitarists," I'll stay on topic.)

Thanks for your suggestions!

Sally, I do love the classical guitar, too! One of my best friends plays the classical guitar. She's very talented!

I will look up Liona Boyd! So many great musicians are in Canada! I enjoy going to Canada to hear new music, especially Montreal. It tends to hit the States a little later on, at least in my region of the States.

I've always wanted to see more female guitarists performing on stage. They are so good! So many have such short careers.

Today, I'd started thinking I should ask around, as maybe there are many more than I know of!

Christina, it's great you play the bass! Love the bass, too! I have heard of Lita, yet had also forgotten about her name. Thanks for your reminder. I will be looking her up, too!

Thanks again, Sally and Christina, for sharing! :D

Warmly,

Brad

Guitar is my favorite classical music solo instrument. I've seen most of the greats, but not Liona Boyd. I'm not sure if its because she doesn't tour much, or she hasn't been to L.A. much. She is awesome.

Of the rock guitarists, Joan Jett and Nancy Wilson (Heart) are the ones I know and love best.

Great thread, Brad.

Hi Carolyn,

Interestingly, you were crossing my mind as I had started this thread! You and Cynthia Rae both came to mind when starting this thread.

I had made a typo in my original post, that should read "Voodoo Chile." Have no idea how I did that! Oh well!

Yes, I love classical and rock guitar!

Cheryl Crowe is fun to watch and does a fairly good job; yet, she is not quite the caliber of the ladies you mention.

I also love Bonnie Raitt!

Thanks, Carolyn! I imagine you have been to many, many concerts to have seen so many of the classical guitarists?

I imagine the concerts are many and frequent in your locale! Has to be fun! :D

I went through LA a couple of times this past year, each time on rather short notice. I was either just north, or just south, of LA for two weeks. I now wonder why I did not try to meet you for lunch or something. If I am in LA again, I'll send you a PM ahead of time.

Looking forward to hearing more about your fun with your banjo, which will happen in perfect timing, I'm sure!

Hugs, Carolyn Marie! :friends:

Bonnie Raitt has always made me just melt! When I started building guitars in my spare time. I studied everything Leo Fender. I discovered Mary Kay, she had a very colorful career before women guitarists were in hot demand. She could guitar and bass like no other back then. Jody

Hi JodyAnn! :D

Bonnie Raitt is ... well... amazing! I love her style! ( I will stop here, about that.)

I will have to look into Mary Kay!

"Building guitars in your spare time" must have been quite challenging and quite interesting!

You never cease to amaze me, JodyAnn! :friends:

(I need to catch up on your "fun and games at the local drug store" thread. I have been away and have been wondering how things are going for you! I was feeling mighty protective of my sister JodyAnn. Gonna look it up!)

Party On, Sweet Sistah! :score:

Hey Brad, nice of you to think of me. Not much to tell, I cooled off. Giggle. When I see him, he has my smiles. I'm not in chase mode anymore. Besides, there are so many other nice girls and boys to flirt with too. I'm so bad! Well, OK... The one security guy at the park entrance gate guard shack is really handsome. Handbar mustache, cowboy hat, western everything and one of those long gun fighter/sherrif leather coats. He teases me a lot when I go to see my parents. I love to tease back. He has seen me in all phases of tomboy to en fem. He knows he can turn on my eyes.

He got new cute wire rim glasses last week. I told him he was handsome and looked like Doc on Gunsmoke. Smiles. Next time I came in all totally en fem. I had my little beauty mark on my cheek colored in so it would be more noticable like Amanda Blake. I gave him my best sparkling eyes and said "Hey Doc, Can I be Miss Kitty?" He turned red, laughed and gave me a playful slap on my elbow sticking out the truck window, sending me on my way. I giggled and smiled all the way to my parents house. I just love being a girl forever!

Now when I see him, we just smile and laugh without saying a word. These are just the little joys of my life. Jus soz ya kno Big Bro! Hug. JodyAnn

Hi Christina and Megan! :D

Christina, great new avatar picture, by the way! :D It's funny, I cannot see all avatars, some are blank and have been so for awhile now. I need to find out why and fix it! I hear our friend, Megan Rose, has a new and lovely avatar picture, too. I have not been able to see it yet, at all! :( I will try to find and fix the issue.

Thanks, Christina, for your many suggestions! :score: I am so glad I had asked about female guitarists. I think I still have much to learn! Thanks for helping to educate me! I am laid up with the flu and am trying to entertain myself during my waking moments! This info helps a great deal!

Hi Megan Rose! :D I am hoping to hear from your fave guitarist... right here... on this thread, whenever she's ready, of course! I think she's maybe warming up her guitar? Celebrities are often "fashionably late," I am told! We will wait, of course!

Hugs all around!

Umm my favorite girl bass player has to be Tina Weymouth of Talking heads, she has the groove, the style, and the poly rhythms down. Talking heads "Remain in Light" LP stellar.

Ann and Nancy Wilson are also all time faves of mine, home town heros of rock ! The band Heart very inspirational for me.

Music = Life, I live it.....

Thanks Brad for this thread and rock on girls....

That does get you the 'starting point' for cup size, but manufacturers, style, breast shape, etc... will effect the results.    Step one is of course finding the proper band fit, then figuring out the approximate cup size with the calculations. Of course you need to try on a few styles after that in different cup sizes close to your measured result until you get the perfect fit.    I have bras in a DD that fit just like my bras in DDD both from Torrid but different styles.    I have some DDD's that fit awesome and some that are a bit loose, but I measure a 46G. It's not wonder that 80% of women are wearing them wrong bra.

I firmly believe I drank entirely to much for about 25 years. Got drunk every day. This was my coping mechanism to keep hiding deep inside that I was a woman. I miss a lot of signs over the years. Now I drink mabye 1 or 2 beers a day don't even get a buzz anymore. totally accept myself and on regret is that I hide that part of my self which  truly makes me happy being violet 💜. I wasted a lot of time before  being self destructive and had no clue I was just hiding th real me

Well it not morning and I haven’t been on her for a while but it’s nice to be back.  Did some catching up on everyone.  I do have a question, how is Toronto Canada for a get away? Is it a safe and friendly area for us to go.  The wife and I are looking for some where to go to allow me to be my true self.     thanks in advance

Hey, everyone. my life is going down the tubes. at least I think. So, today. A customer called about his car, I told him that the oil change was done. The parts to fix the check engine light are ordered. He can come and get it. For the weekend if he wants. Customer says I didn't want an oil change. it was check the engine light and check for an oil leak. Checking the work order says oil change. The boss wrote the vehicle up. checking with the customer on services wanted.   Being that I wrote down the appointment in the book. and clearly states oil leak. She is complaining because she can't read my small ish writing. It seems she read oil and assumed it as an oil change. It seems like she is blaming me.  She wound up going home because she was too upset. She is stressing about an eye problem she has, she has to get eye surgery it seems she has a tear in her eye.    I feel that I am short for this job. because of the BS they are blaming me on. Plus I am still upset about the trust issue. If either one of the bosses start their Shite tomorrow. I am walking out.

"I love you so much,"  Lois said.  They met in the driveway. "I could not live without you." "Neither could I." "What are we going to do?" "Find another counselor?" "No. I think we need to solve this ourselves." "Do you think we can?" "I don't know.  But what I know is that I don't want to go through that again.  I think we have to hope we can find a solution." "Otherwise, despair." "Yeah.   Truce?" "Okay,  truce." And they hugged.   "When we know what we want we can figure out how to get there."   That began six years of angry battles, with Odie insisted he could dress as he pleased and Lois insisting it did not please her at all.  He told her she was not going to control him and she replied that she still had rights as a wife to a husband. Neither was willing to give in, neither was willing to quit, and their heated arguments ended in hugs and more.   They went to a Crossdressers' Club, where they hoped to meet other couples with the same problems, the same conflicts, and the same answers, if anyone had any.  It took them four tries before they settled on a group that they were both willing to participate in.  This was four couples their own age, each with a cross dressing husband and a wife who was dealing with it.  They met monthly.  It was led by a 'mediator' who wanted people to express how they felt about the situation.  Odie and Lois, as newcomers, got the floor, and the meeting was finally dismissed at 1:30 in the morning - it was supposed to be over at 10 - and everyone knew how they felt about the situation.   There was silence in the car on the way home.   "We aren't the only ones dealing with this." Odie finally said.   "Who would have thought that?  You are right."   "Somebody out there has a solution." "I hope you are right."   "I hope in hope, not in despair."   "That's my Odie."

The counseling session was heated, if you could call it a counseling session.  Sometimes Lois felt he was on Odie's side, and sometimes on hers.  When he was on her side, Odie got defensive. She found herself being defensive when it seemed they were ganging up on each other.   "This is not working," Lois said angrily, and walked out.  "Never again. I want my husband back. Dr. Smith you are complicit in this."   "What?" said Odie.   The counselor looked at him.  "You will have to learn some listening skills."   "That is it? Listening skills?  You just destroyed my marriage, and you told me I need to learn listening skills?"   Dr. Smith said calmly,"I think you both need to cool off."   Odie looked at him and walked out, saying "And you call yourself a counselor."   "Wait a minute."   "No."

I have read some of it, mostly in areas specifically targeted at the LGBTQ+ peoples.   You also have to take into account what and who is behind the words, not just the words themselves. Together that creates context, right? Let's take some examples, under the Department of Health & Human Services section:   "Radical actors inside and outside government are promoting harmful identity politics that replaces biological sex with subjective notions of “gender identity” and bases a person’s worth on his or her race, sex, or other identities. This destructive dogma, under the guise of “equity,” threatens American’s fundamental liberties as well as the health and well-being of children and adults alike."   or   "Families comprised of a married mother, father, and their children are the foundation of a well-ordered nation and healthy society. Unfortunately, family policies and programs under President Biden’s HHS are fraught with agenda items focusing on “LGBTQ+ equity,” subsidizing single-motherhood, disincentivizing work, and penalizing marriage. These policies should be repealed and replaced by policies that support the formation of stable, married, nuclear families."   From a wording perspective, who doesn't want to protect the health and well-being of Americans or think that families aren't good for America? But let's take a look at the author, Roger Severino. He's well-quoted to be against LGBTQ+ anything, has standard christian nationalist views, supports conversion therapy, etc.   So when he uses words like "threatens the health and well-being of children and adults alike" it's not about actual health, it's about enforcing cis-gendered ideology because he (and the rest of the Heritage Foundation) believe LGBTQ+ people and communities are harmful. Or when he invokes the family through the lens of, let's just say dog whistles including the "penalization of marriage" (how and where?!), he idealizes families involving marriage of a "biological male to a biological female" and associates LGBTQ+ family equity as something unhealthy.   Who are the radical actors? Who is telling people to be trans, gay, or queer in general? No one. The idea that there can be any sort of equity between LGBTQ+ people and "normal" cis people is abhorrent to the author, so the loaded language of radical/destructive/guise/threaten are used. Families that he believes are "good" are stable/well-ordered/healthy, specifically married/nuclear ones.   Start looking into intersectionality of oppression of non-privileged groups and how that affects the concept of the family and you will understand that these platitudes are thinly veiled wrappers for christian nationalist ideology.   What's wrong with equity for queer families, to allow them full rights as parents, who are bringing up smart and able children? Or single mothers who are working three jobs to get food on plates?
