Hair Thinning Help!

KieranD

Recommended Posts

A few months ago I had noticed that my ultra thick head of hair was very much thinning. It's not like what I've seen in most men with thinning hair. I'm not losing hair at the corners with a receding hairline/balding. It's just the top of my head you can see my scalp easily even though my hair is an inch or two long. I don't have much in the way of money or resources but does anybody have an idea of what can be done to stop the hair loss or slow down hair thinning? My hair is kind of curly/frizzy/has a lot of volume is there some sort of way to cut it that would hide the fact that my hair is thinning?

Kieran, I'm sure that if i had a real remedy i would be a millionaire and perhaps would be able to show my own goldie locks instead of my constant wig. As far as i know there are many promises with few results. HRT and loss of the T might help but that is a big consideration for hair only.

Hugs,

Charlie

Hi Kieran;

Are you aware that getting on HRT will help in stopping your hair lost. Also, there is a medication that primarily is designed to reduce the prostate, it can also be used to help with hair loss; it's called Finasteride.

Maybe the T is causing the hairloss, but I am no expert.

A consult with your doctor should help with this question.

T and genetics, but me stopping T won't be happening, and fixing genes won't be happening either. So it's not really something that would require talking to a doctor...and doctor visits are expensive.

Unfortunately T causes hair loss in men at a high rate.

Males can get a prescription from their doctor called propecia. It's in the finasteride family, just made for men and hair loss. Plus you can purchase Minoxidil from the store, although it's expensive. These you will have to always take or your loss of hair on the crown will get worse.

The medication mentioned above is for dihydrorestosterone. (DHT).

go to your doctor and request a prescription, they should know why. Apparently also helps to have less body odour.

welcome to the man's world. T and the family tree are factors, You can fight it some with drugs or surgery, but most men just have to come to grips with losing the locks. I know I hate it and tried to stop it early with topical solutions.

Some guys just embrace it as it is what it is, I am still a vibrant person, just without as much hair.

Finding a good barber can be challenging but they make all the difference and have experience dealing with the problem. Admittedly the cute girl in the sports clip place wasn't good at it although the experience was still enjoyable but after shopping around and some unfortunate haircuts I finally found someone who could make my hair look thick again and not make my cowlicks resemble Alfalfa's from the Little Rascals. Each face is umique as is the texture and growth of hair so advise on cuts etc that work for one person can look awful or ridiculous on someone else. A good barber with a good eye can suit your hair to you whie minimizing problems.

The most negative thing about T has been a total change in my hair. From far thicker and finer than normal to a receding hairline and thinning (though the extreme weight loss also played a role in that because nutrition dramatically and drastically affects hair and the effects can last a very long time). Women don't seem to notice or mind though. And it is a male characteristic.

Sorry for the misunderstanding Kieran, you gave no indication that you were on T. There is a new product being advertised for (people) with thinning hair called Keranique. It cost just under $40.00. Hope that helps. :):):):)

I must also say sorry for misunderstanding your use of T.

I hate to say it but it's one of the risks of being a guy. You can't seem to get away with full hair as if you were young unless your genes are nice to you. It never seemed that women seemed to mind, some even seem to like bald men. I hated it but i always wanted to move in another direction. A good barber will give you some help but the general remedies are as far as i know worthless so don't waste your money.

Sorry i don't have any good news on this one.

Hugs,

Charlie

For the good barbers, you pay with money and look good no matter how thin the hair is. With an inexpensive barber, you lose both hair and money. Not much middle ground.

Hair stylist or barber? From my experiences a barber just cuts in whatever way you ask, a hair stylist gives suggestions. Is this generally true?

Alright, so I realized that pictures would be easier to communicate. Other people could help out with their suggestions after seeing what my hair actually looks like.

So, this is what I have right now...my hair mostly grows outward and looks kinda weird.

These ones are just links to pix since pictures take up a lot of space:

The top to show how it looks

And the side.

Any ideas? Go short? Go long?
