Just came out to my mom

So, I'm now out to my mom. I was extremely nervous even though I knew she would be accepting. She's a little shocked and certainly needs some time to mull it all over before she fully understands it all, which I was expecting. Like, hardly any parent is going to just fall right into place with this stuff, regardless of how accepting they are. But, I feel fortunate to say that she loves me and she told me she's going to support me through this, which is the most I can ask of her. She's a planner, so even as I was talking to her, she was already going over possible next steps "we" could take, and I really liked that "we" aspect because it affirmed that she does truly want to be involved and to help in any way she can. So, yeah, again, I'm very thankful that this went over well.

 

Also, does anyone know of some good resources for parents with transgender offspring? I'm 24, so maybe shy away from stuff about transgender children specifically. She just told me as we were talking that this is a very foreign concept for her, and I didn't know how to really help her in this area because it's all very new to me as well. She just seems discombobulated right now and I want to help her out a bit. Even if it's just some information or advice from other parents.

That's great that your mom is on board. Mine was totally supportive as well, but it still shocked her and took her a little time to come to grips with the situation. In the end, my happiness is what she's focused on and that's worked well. We were a bit older though. ?

This is intended for parents of younger kids, but it has some good general resources and is targeted at parent, so I'm sure there would be some useful info there for her. I know I have some other links as well, but I'll have to do some searching.

It's great news that your mom is accepting and supportive!

 

We do have a forum here for parents of transgender people. There, she could even talk through the forum with others who also face similar challenges.
