Getting Called Names Via Voice Chat

I was playing Halo 3 earlier and my armor was pink. My gamertag doesn't reveal my girly habits, and I didn't have headset, but these Latino guys kept calling me a gay slur that starts with F and rhymes with bag. I didn't take it personally (one of them wasn't sure if I was a male or female), but I was wondering if anyone has experience rude people online calling you names for something personal instead of some random kid calling everyone a bad name because he can regardless of who or what they were.

I've come to expect that on Xbox LIVE and especially on Halo 3.

Heck, even back in the Halo 3 Beta somebody called me what they called you because my armor was an off pink.

Playing as a male, regardless of your GT or armor color, you're going to get called stuff like that. In fact, the only thing I can even think of that would prevent them from doing that is having a girlie GT, so you shouldn't dwell on it too much. Seriously, homophobic remarks and slurs should almost be expected when you go online these days.

However, if they make it personal, then just do your best to beat 'em. That's what I always do, and, usually, I walk away as the winner.

That's why I'm pink, because nothing's worse than being beat by the guy in the light red armor.

It's how these kids are these days. Every other word either starts with Q and ends sounding like steer, of the F bag. Heck, I turn off the sound and only play with people I know. Cause have the time I don't talk anyway, unless I know the person.

Like others have said, the Internet is a huge magnets for homophobes and homophobic language is common. It's due to the anonymity that the Internet can give you. There's also this disgusting little saying, "no homo", which some people use when they say/do something that could be seen as homosexual.

As for pink, it used to be a boys colour and was up until fairly recently. Blue was seen as the calm, docile colour of femininity. Ideally, society should not attach masculine or feminine qualities to something like colour that should never have such qualities associated with them in the first place.

Oh man i hate this >_< i dont use headsets coz i dont like talking to people when im in the zone (HA!) but recently i was playing Modern Warfare 2 online and i was seriously kickin' butt. i got the 25 killstreak reward (the nuke) and bombed everyone. in the lobby afterwards, some guy yelled into his headset:

"MUTHER F'ER! IM GONNA F'ING KILL YOU ASHYPANTS! YOUR F-bomb A-word is DEAD!"

and throughout the night, i was a "derogatory word used to insult gays" and a... well im not sure of a nice way to say it so i wont.

Moral of the story? Dont be a god at games that attract the emotionally unstable XD

someone once showed me a link where this guy was talking thought a multiplayer game on Hole 3 once, just talking about nothing I think, but he rambled on for like 10 minutes about nothing. I had to keep skipping ahead, but it was just funny that all he did was talk.

Thats why I like Halo, but to do the multiplayer Campaign, or Left 4 dead, at least then you need to talk to keep alive.

On Halo 3, my armor is purple. It's a very pleasant light purple because purple is my favorite color, and it's a nice contrast against the grays. People insult you regularly and I just laugh and say, "So what?"

"You're gay."

"Yes, and?"

"Gay."

"I heard you the first time."

Children and overgrown children do that, and it's sad but I guess you've got to have tougher skin to go online. I doubt they'd say similar things to your face. I suppose people are pumped, impatient, and quite willing to let loose in a way that can't be judged... Unless you're talking about rep.

my gf and I play online together every night. Usually we're in a private chat and don't hear whatever people are saying. However, when we do go to game chat there is always someone being a jerk.

Neither of us are safe from it. And its most common in Halo 3. When its her its some jerk saying she has to be a guy, and when I stand up for her I must be gay. When its me its because of my GT (which I won't post if anyone wants to know send a PM) apparently my GT is feminine so again I'm called gay.

People online are jerks. There is no getting around that. You just have to get a group of friends to play with to avoid it as best you can.

A couple of reasons that it doesn't bother me:

1) Nobody ever believes that there are women playing. (Stevie Case has apparently been forgotten)

2) Name calling is a standard tactic in any FPS. People taunt to get you worked up and stupid so that you are easier to kill.

3) Name calling from guildies is like an initiation thing. If they start being PC, um... wait I've never experienced that so not sure what happens.

4) PWNAGE makes up for most anything. I have been known to be very lovey-dovey with people before and during kill-shots.

5) the ULTIMATE revenge. Iff it is really bothering you, get more friends on the voice thing and start talking about either dates or surgical procedures in intimate detail. Against guys, describing the details of penile inversion is priceless.

I love the way people turn into keyboard warriors of the the internet, it's funny how big people act behind a screen

Anyway, crack off a head shot and give them a cheeky wink. If it was FEAR 2 online, I'd nail them to the wall. Then lul.

I played the camppaign on Reach as a guest... beyond that I refuse to play a Halo game because everyone who is an obvious fan with spartan and elite in the gamer tags are generally unsavory people I don't care to know who like that on every game they play. Once I was playing PvP on James Camerons Avatar with a prepubescent kid who played Halo and he had a mouth on him that would make a sailor blush and all he wanted to know how to do was t-bag. Didn't care to learn anything beyond that.

That said, people always run their mouths on online games, especially if you're better than they are. Just ignore it and don't take it personally. The only thing people like that find unfair in video games is that they don't always win and so they have to run their mouths to try and insult you to make up for their lack of skill. Avoid them and move along. No sweat off your back.

As far as personal attacks about being TS, no. But I don't advertise that I am in any obvious form but I wouldn't deny it if someone asked. I don't think it is something to be ashamed of and if others have a problem with it well, that's their problem and you don't need to worry about it. Blist them, avoid them and forget them.

Awhile ago my mic broke and I just haven't bothered to get a new one. I get treated pretty much the same either way on XBL. No mic = booted as soon as possible. Mic = I talk, get called names, then booted as soon as possible.

At least with most of the games I play there isn't a boot function, but people still get frustrated and start yelling when the "chick doesn't respond"

LoL it was fun reading these posts. You all seem to take care of yourselves just fine online (GITTEM!). We internet gamers can be a rude bunch, but there's always cool people out there who like to have fun too, and it's always nice meeting new friends to game with!

As I read this one, it is only for school bathrooms.  I hope he has signed a bill to triple the number of "security monitors" on the campuses and up their pay considerably, not to mention some other costly stuff.  Only way is for every school employee, to know the birth certificate information of each student by memory which will require 3 additional months of salary for them all.  It appears the enforcement relies on parental reports obtained from their children which opens so much up.  The kids will end up ALL with wet or soiled underwear while the parents go at each other with weapons over "family honor" over false calls based on childish name calling.

I agree. This law is impractical and impossible to evenly enforce without such ridiculous measures in place. What it will do is stigmatize the trans community in Oklahoma and nothing more but ofc, that’s the only point of it.   If I was in that state and needed a restroom, there’s no chance I’d ever step foot in the men’s restroom because of some law. I know I’m not alone in that thinking. This law won’t stand the test of time.

I asked AI to create an image of myself 30 years younger based off my avatar on another site and this was the result:     Wow! I am amazed how close it got my 30 year old face!

Quite true.  The amusing thing about opposites is how similar they can be.   My family left Greece because of the conflict between the communists and the militarists/fascists.

This wouldn't even be a problem if they would just leave us alone.  It is a no-brainer.

OMG.  I'm glad it wasn't worse, and you were able to get on it quickly.  Lots of blood can be scary.

Like I said, I'm no tankie, but I do see a world of difference between Joseph Stalin and Bernie Sanders.   If the point is not wanting 'government control' the Right is pretty good at that themselves - as they've been demonstrating lately. This stuff gets complicated.

So, I am curious. Is the Governor going to mandate vaginal or penile recognition photos before one enters the restroom? Considering the Governor has no balls to do the right thing, will he have to pee against a tree outside? Inquiring minds would like to know. I love it when the job recruiters contact me about the wonderful jobs available in Oklahoma. It is so much fun telling them there is no way I will ever go to Oklahoma. When there are no workers, then they can shutter the place.

Thank you! I'm out of coffee so I have been drinking hot tea instead. Looking forward to the 1st. It's crazy that we are almost in May. This year has flown by really quick! Good to hear that y'all got to sleep in. Hope you have a good weekend too!

It's nice to care about others but you need to live your life as you please. No one be your only source of happiness. Love yourself and don't look back. I lost over 40 family members it hurts but apparently, they didn't truly love me. True love will always be there through the thick and thin. I can honestly say that HRT has made me think in ways that I never thought I would. I get myself some shoes or clothes every month because retail therapy not only helps but it is a reward to myself to show love. I have over 100 dresses. I have a whole walk-in-closet full of clothes and 67 pairs of shoes. I love who I am. I was born in 84 so not all people in the 80's think that way. As far as the name just take your time and be happy with it. I knew I loved the name Ashley. Take care and welcome!
