I have proudly served in the Oregon Army National Guard for 25 years. I have 2 deployments to Iraq under my belt. I was injured by a road side bomb 12 days before I was to leave country. Luckily enough, I still have all my fingers and toes. Bad news is I have nerve damage to my right hand.

Hello all,

My name is Mickey and this is my first post. I was very glad to come across this topic among all of the others on Laura's Playground.

I was in the USAF from 1977-1981. My first and only station was McClellan AFB, Sacramento, CA. I specialized as an Aircraft Pneudraulic Systems Technician. Worked on WC 135's, HC-130's, T-39's & HH-53 Jolly Green Helicopters. In hindsight, I wish I had stayed in to the end. I would have been 40 y/o @ 20 years..... As it was, I left as an E-4 Sgt. Since that time I see that E-4 is no longer a Sgt. but is now a Sra. I had to have the V.A. correct this mistake in my records on the MyHealtheVet site as they had me down as a Sra. I later went back to work @ McClellan in Civil Service working in the pneumatic/hydraulics component overhaul section. Spent about 10 yrs. there. There has been other non-federal stints in between, but right now I'm with U.S.P.S. for the past 8 years. Federal employment is good for me in a lot of ways 'cause it still takes an act of Congress (metaphorically speaking) to get fired. I read a post earlier where someone said that it's (a government job) probably the best place to transition since there are a lot of protections in place there that you most likely would not have outside of Uncle Sam.
