Gyno Exam

I've never been to one and my endo wants me to see one. I'm thinking that since I've never been to one, they are going to give me a pelvic exam. The gyno is someone my GT referred me to - he had a ftm patient who went to her, and he was adamant about it - he said no way in hell was he gonna go to one. But he ended up going to this one and was okay.

I am really scared about this. I pretend that whole area of my body doesn't exist and I hate acknowledging it, much less having someone else acknowledge it.

For anyone who has gotten one of these exams - how was it and how did you deal with it? I want to kinda have some idea of what to expect before I go.

:) Thanks.

The good news is that the exam itself is pretty quick...like 5 mins or less. Everyone hates having them not just you guys. My doc is pretty good talking about other things during the exam to keep me distracted. Helps to take my mind off what she is doing. I have heard some docs will tell you what they are doing or about to do...for me at least I dont want to hear about it I just want her to hurry up and be done with it. If your doc has had other ftm patients then they should have a pretty good idea for how to make you feel less uncomfy with it all. Try and relax the best you can and go to your happy place for a few mins.

You'll worry about it a whole lot longer than it takes.

Since I always felt something was wrong with me but in denial for so long I always felt huge anxiety that they'd find some weird deformity or something. So I was even more anxious than most.

Didn't help that they never did manage to get a normal PAP and wanted me to go back every 6 months.

It's all impersonal and quick and there's that sheet that keeps you from having to see anything.

You'll be fine.

PM me if you want more details

Pat on the back!

I went to one about a month ago for the first time. It was fine. I have a lot of bottom dysphoria but the doctor was really nice about it and quick.

As she was uh..doing whatever, she said "So next time I see you, you might have a beard!" There was a nurse in there (I don't know if that's typical, but the nurse stood to my side and basically handed the doctor the equipment she used) and she looked really confused. it amused me greatly lol.

People get really nervous about it but it's not as bad as it seems, especially if your doctor has had a trans patient before. The doctor I went to had one trans patient in the past.

I agree with JJ, you'll worry about it a lot longer than the whole thing takes.

This is one of those things you just have to do. The clinic that prescribes my T requires us to have one once a year. It is horrible, but it's over REALLY quick.

I get through it by timing it. That way my attention is at least divided.

That's good to know.

Also... went to my GT tonight, he told me that the gyno told him she's not gonna do anything that she doesn't need to do. I'm hoping that means no pelvic exam for me... but I dunno. I'm just not sure what to expect. I am totally ok with getting an ultrasound - actually I am curious about it cuz it may settle once and for all the question of whether I am intersexed. Not sure if I'm, getting one of those either, though. But the possibility of getting a pelvic exam is creepin me out! But it's good to hear that someone who has a lot of bottom dysphoria was ok about it.

I have anti-anxiety meds that I take as needed... I keep half-joking that I'd better take one before my appointment

That wouldn't be a bad idea. It'd probably be pretty helpful. No shame in it.

For internal ultrasounds....they put a condom on the wand and then....well you get the picture. lol

Gosh darned.. You guys have creeped me out slightly about this. Am I going to need one of these Gy (personally I'd rather refer to it as such) appointments before I am prescribed my T?

I, too, have the mindset that I have no real physical being or form, I just try to concentrate on the energy/vibes I present (relating to what Genesis mentioned). It's much better for me, being pre-T as I am right now, than acknowledging certain things that disgust and upset me, and instead focus on my internal self so I don't lose sight of it. I suppose if this is some kind of health requirement, I could use some herbal medicine beforehand and make jokes with the doc during the appointment. Yeah, that would actually not make it so bad. Oregon's got a good trans-community and tolerance (so I hear) so I think I can be more tolerant myself in this scenario. Hmmm.

I didn't have to go to see a gyno before I started T because of the whole being a virgin thing...The only person who's seen me in my birthday suit is my current boyfriend. ;)

If you're not a virgin you'll have to see a gyno.

Virgin or not doesn't have anything to do with it. If you are over the age of 18 most docs are gonna try and make you get a Pap one way or another. They seem to like to find something you need or want and dangle that you have to have a Pap first before they will give it to

Not over here in Canada. At lest not with my doctor and endo. I got my blood tests done and then she popped the question. Asked the endo and the endo said no point in me going to the gyno.

If you are needing a doc here I can PM you the name of my boyfriends doc. She is a general doc but prescribes his T. He likes her alot.

I wasn't expecting to have to go to one because I'm a virgin too... but this endo thinks I might have PCOS, saw that I have high T levels and asked me if I've ever been to one (along with some other questions I wish he never asked <_<) and so it's like Ta-Da! I have to go see one if I want to start T. No fair. lol.

Yeah, they are dangling T in front of my face.... ugh I just want it to be OVER. lol.

I really do like the medical in Canada. The only part that is bad is the private gender therapists whom charge 100$ a session...but you can find better ones that are covered. I haven't paid for anything so far, including gas or transportation, except 20$ for T and a couple cents for my needles for my whole transition(ignoring the wasted money on the private GT). My top surgery is being covered too...so will my bottom in the future.

For those Canadians reading this thread, don't pay anything out of your pocket because most of it can be covered. You just gotta do your research. Avoid private anything because as I have seen....big waste of money.

Eh, don't hate the US. There's lots of great doctors there because they get paid a lot of money to be there...and, you don't have to wait in line ups? I'm not very well versed in USA's medical system, though.

Good morning coffees   This probably doesn’t exactly apply to me because you wouldn’t have found a more shy and conservative person than me.  I was perhaps less shy before my sister started complaining about me doing things that were hers to do. And I would become embarrassed and that was the end of that.   upstairs unit got their typical weekend visitors in the middle of the night last night.  They woke me up.  They have little consideration for being in a condo community and the neighbors being in such close proximity.   @awkward-yet-sweet , how goes the job with your husband’s boss?  I don’t recall you saying much about it this week, but I could have missed a post along the way.  If I recall you were supposed to meet with him last Monday.   @KymmieL I hope you are feeling better.     Yes, I find it to be wrong that just because a car part says Ford or Chevrolet on the box that same part with Lincoln or Cadillac on the box cost a lot.more.  I know there are differences in the upscale brands such as the engine and drivetrain in the Caddy and of course the interior fit and finish.  But it’s the same body with things crammed in the same way under the hood.     well, time to finish my coffee, fix my hair and made my way across the street to work.    willow

I read about her this morning. What a shame! She was beautiful and it seems she had a strong support system in place and could have had a wonderful life all to have it end like this. Such a waste. I truly hope the monster that killed her gets everything he deserves.

I am so glad you enjoy them as well. The help things “stay put” so well. It got me through some of my most dysphoric times.   Wow, I hadn’t heard this at last week’s Zoom meeting if you had mentioned it. That is a huge milestone April Marie.I have no doubt that this confidence will only grow in time. The freedom of being yourself, especially in public, is a wonderful feeling. I am truly happy for you.😘   *Big Congratulatory Hug* Susan R🌷

Don't think Americans would go for the "compulsory" part. We kind of like not being told what to do ... Amazingly, there is great pushback on voter ID laws. The opponents say it discourages voting, especially among the poor and minorities. That is really a smokescreen IMO for those who want to harvest ballots from as many places as possible, including folks who don't exist or don't hold citizenship...

Pretty soon I think I might be ready to talk about gender-affirming care for kids, possibly w/r/t the Cass Review and its shortcomings.

Dear @Sally Stone.  I think you should author a memoir based on these posts (maybe you're already working towards that?).  You could decide at a later time if/when you might want to publish.   I appreciate you sharing your deep connection with your friend Willa (and I am sorry for your loss) and the benefit of having a Trans friend and mentor in our Life and Journey.  I was fortunate to have found one also in our TGP friend @Kasumi63.   As you know we share many common Life themes in our stories.  Drop me a PM if you'd like to chat about it.  Looking forward to the next 'chapter'.

Voting is compulsory here, for better or worse. Would doing the same in the US snap people out of their apathy?
    • Abigail Genevieve
I am noting you use CRT terminology.  The comment is not out of the blue.  Some of your remarks on religion suggest atheism.  So it is believable that you are a Marxist, knowingly or not.  Are you?
