The only true American cuisine is buffalo burgers, corn, squash, and berries for desert. Oh, and maybe some trout and salmon. :)

Carolyn Marie

I hesitate to hurl the ephitat "Yankee" at someone I am so fond but REALLY!!!!!

What about Pecan pie, or sweet potato pie? Fried okra, fried squash, fried green tomatoes, fried pickles, fried steak--well just about fried anything? And cornbread and beans, buttermilk and catshead buiskits, blackeyed peas and greens with a bit of hogjowl? I could go on and on and on.

Hooray for Southern cuisine-we do now count as Americans too-ya'll didn't give us much choice!!

I would go on an endless around-the-world cruise.

The only part of cruising that sucks is disembarkation, so if its endless, I never have to hassle with that again. :D

Did anyone see my drink; it had a pink umbrellla in it?

Carolyn Marie

That sounds good on paper and I'd give it a try.

But our waiter on one cruise had worked an around the world cruise (like 104 days) and he said after about 30 days people were fighting with each other and everyone was miserable. The cabins where size doesn't matter because you're hardly in them is now almost like a prison, and you can't eat that much food every day. Plus it's hard to keep the entertainment fresh and different. If you go to the Casino for a few days it's fun. if you go every day for 3 months it's maybe a gambling problem. And the people who hog pool chairs...you'll see them being self-centered for 3 months.

I'd still give it a try but I never thought of these things.

I've only been outside of the UK once (to Paris with the school, was a rubbish trip) so all of the cool holiday places I know are in England: Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, The Cotswolds, Lake District... I would like to visit Australia and Canada if I ever save up enough though. Quite a few family members have ended up living in Australia after going over for a holiday and falling in love with the place. :P

For me it would be Alaska! I have a few friends I keep in contact with there. I know I'm crazy I like cold weather! I moved fro NYC to Florida and couldn't take the heat. Pennsylvania is perfect for me. Nice change of seasons. But Alaska it would be. I heard there are spectacular train rides through the mountains. They have special observation cars that have a glass enclosure you sit in. Someday I'll check it out. Canada sounds nice to!

I would go to Europe, travel from country to country, communtiy to community, spend maybe a few weeks to a month or so in different areas, with different kinds of peoples. Experience and live in the different cultures of each, helping people and creating friendships. And of course I would enjoy any sports or things like that that the locals do.

How do people cope who visit countries where they don't speak the language? Unless you have someone with you who does I can't imagine it being much fun. :(

Sam......

Back when (yeah a looooong time ago)....I flew on airplanes in the Air Force.

I got to more than 25 countries.

English has become pretty much universal...did you know that every airport controller in the world has to be able to speak english? It's the standard aviation language.

Most schools in other countries teach english as a second language, too...

Most anywhere that you travel these days ...you'll have little problem communicating .....

I think you'd have few problems....

I hadn't realised it was quite that widespread though I guess it makes sense. I studied french and german language for years (up to GCSE level) but when I visited Paris I sucked at being able to communicate. I could always read the languages better than listening to them - need processing time! I suppose people in other countries have somewhat more motivation to learn english due to the huge amounts of media in english? I'd feel mean visiting somewhere and expecting everyone to speak to me in english though, I'd at least want to try. :P (And inevitably make a fool of myself! Or just stay silent!)

The only place out of country I've been in Mexico. So I have... many places to go. I'd really like to check out Japan. But I'd like to travel in general... I used to always want a job that allowed me to do that...

Then I got pets, which I love, but don't allow me to leave home as much. Well, that and school, and because I'm really a homebody at heart.

Maybe when I retire I can fly around the world...

I've heard with the exception of France, most people are pleased when anyone makes any effort to speak their language.

Paris is the worst exception I think. My sister was married to a Parisian and when he went home to visit porple would pretend not to understand his French because he had picked up a non-Parisian accent form living in the states Drove him crazy because he knew as a native Parisian it was intentional rudeness. You may actually speak French better than you think:)

Ireland- To walk where my fathers family is from, and Scotland for spiritual reasons

Melanie Dawn

Oh I forgot about Ireland! I've been there too. Everyone is so amazingly friendly, they wave at you all the time as they pass in their cars even though there's no way they know you! Being that I'm not at all religious though the strength of Christianity there made me a bit uncomfortable.

Cornwall has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world i think :)

I've never been one for beaches; they're generally too crowded and the towns are too touristy for my taste. I prefer woodland views to sea views. However I do concede that if I were to pick a beach it would be Cornwall. We once took a boat out to a deserted cove and had a barbecue there with some friends and it was awesome. Saw a shark in the water on the way back though and the boat stopped and wouldn't start for a while!

Perhaps. It did very much feel like they weren't interested in helping you out unfortunately. Particularly harsh for him considering that he was a Parisian himself!

España!

Madrid, Seville, Valencia, Barcelona...

My Spanish (like most of my other non-English languages skills) is terrible, but still. I'd love to go and spend 2 or 3 months just going around Spain.

hi vidanjali !! i know exactly what you mean, i do have a few trans and otherwise queer friends nearby me but currently i present as 'cis' for obvious reasons so it's not all that easy for me to reach out and find that kind of community (though i do love my irls!!)   but yeah, i get this weird paranoia that if i come out to too many people it'll end up tracing back to my folks (not everyone knows my family is homophobic and being outed is a big fear of mine)   but im sooo happy to know that that feeling was just dysphoria !! i thought i was going crazy for a minute !!.   thanks so much for welcoming me, and you have a great day too !!

hi susan!! thats very much how i feel !! i have no issue explaining my gender or educating other people on transness but it feels like im talking to a brick wall of misinformation even if they are well-meaning and accepting people ! but thank you anyways for welcoming me here !!

This is a fairly long video by Philosophy Tube,  (Abigail Thorne)  Discussing some of Judith Buttler's work and related stuff.   I wasn't sure where to post it, so if there is a better place, move it.

I have a fantastic therapist. She is so caring she has helped me open up so much. Unfortunately, She is ending her internship. Do to a hiring freeze at the VA she isn't going just go right into a position there.  My Endo is out of the Denver VA hospital. I haven't talked with her in probably 2 yrs. I am  looking to transfer providers and get back to seeing a GYN at the Cheyenne VA.

Shopping at the mall today and helping out at Torrid I excused myself to the restroom. The manager told me the restroom at JC Penny was much closer (I normally use the family restroom in the food court).   Upon arrival I discovered that JC Penny doesn't have a family restroom, it's either or.   The men's room was occupied with customers, and me going in with large breasts, long hair, and makeup was going to cause a stir, so I opted for the woman's room instead. I was the only one in the woman's room.    Texas state law does state that your must use the restroom that matches your chromosomes, and it's a misdemeanor to not do so, but it seemed to be the best choice (I really needed to go!)

I had some guy grab my butt on the ship.  I don't know how "real" it was, but I did not enjoy that at all.  Also did not enjoy the hazing I saw other people going through.  One person can only do so much to stop that when there are 10 people doing it.

I pulled this out of a stack of old military mementos yesterday.  I guess I didn't realize how cool this one was because I did so much of this kind of thing back then.

This internet video thing is pretty amazing.  I'd call it Zoom, but there are other platforms out there.  I prefer Zoom over Teams because Zoom puts me and everyone else in the same picture.  I like seeing the whole group in one shot.  Teams of course is about having so many people that you can't get them in the shot, or is it?   Just saying that I have never met any of my counselors in person.  Doctors, of course I have and I am lucky there.  They are 3.5 miles from my house as is the main transgender surgery place in town.  I've been doing virtual visits with the medical doctors lately though.  It feels like once I became steady state, they don't need to interact with me physically that much.  I have enjoyed going into their office in my nice clothing.
