Anybody else remember and love the ever cynical Dorothy Parker?

Quotes:

Brevity is the soul of lingerie.

If you don't have anything nice to say, come sit by me...

He is beyond question a writer of power; and his power lies in his ability to make sex so thoroughly, graphically and aggressively unattractive that one is fairly shaken to ponder how little one has been missing.

His body has gone to his head.

Look at him, a rhinestone in the rough.

The best way to keep children home is to make the home atmosphere pleasant--and let the air out of the tires

The first thing I do in the morning is brush my teeth and sharpen my tongue.

Young man to Dorothy Parker: "I can't bear fools."

Dorothy Parker to young man: "Funny, your mother could."

If you want to know what god thinks of money, just look at the people he gave it to.

That woman speaks eight languages and can't say "no" in any of them.

She ran the gamut of emotions from 'A' to 'B'

To Mrs Sherwood on the arrival of her baby:

"Good work, Mary,'' our Mrs Parker wired collect. "We all knew you had it in you.''

Summer makes me drowsy. Autumn makes me sing. Winter's pretty lousy, but I hate Spring.

Every year, back comes Spring, with nasty little birds yapping their fool heads off and the ground all mucked up with plants.

And others wittier and more risque that you'll ave to find for yourself

Haha that's brilliant!

I'd also like to take this opportunity to say that the word filter here is funny. :P Things that here in England we'd never consider swearing/offensive are substituted. I presume this is due to cultural differences. I'm not complaining, I just found it funny to have my post altered. ^_^

I am so sorry that I have been missing for a while now, I have so much still to do and starting my new job takes so much time.

I used to tell everyone that I would never leave because I had no place else to go, but in truth I will never leave because i wou;ld miss all of my friends, my sisters and brothers and especially my children.

I feel very honored to have been given the name Momma Sally and I cherish it more than gold.

Just taken this opportunity to say I love you to everyone.

Hi JJ ! Well, it is actually herbicide, a mixture of 2-4D and Roundup. Nasty stuff. The County here was to keep a handle on certain noxious weeds that have a reputation for taking over land that is not treated. One has the choice of getting it done in some manner themselves, or the County comes in and sprays, then charges you an arm and a leg.

A lot of bugs probably do die either directly or indirectly from spraying this nasty stuff. I managed to take a tumble yesterday trying to pick up a really nice piece of Jasper/Flint I found. Landed on my back, and fortunately didn't hurt the sprayer. Also, the wand of the sprayer went off in a safe direction, so I did not spray myself with that nasty stuff. Hope to finish up on Friday, maybe for the year.

Hugs,

Opal

Message from a cousin I see once every couple of yrs in Canada. She sent this to me after I outed myself on facebook to all 50 friends.

You are who you are, and that's all you can be. It takes a lot of courage to confess to the world how you feel and what you need to feel complete and happy and for that I am proud of you! Stay strong, answers to all your questions will come in time, and we are all here to support you in any way we are capable.

*softly crying*

I cannot believe how caring my family is.

What you mean you've been practicing genocide on plants instead?? Poor plants!

Just kidding all along. I know the realities of modern land management make such things necessary.

Oh-you say you didn't hurt the sprayer but how about Opal?? Landing on your back is not a good thing-I know. With so many things going well in your life you don't want to go hurting your back. Actually, I guess you don't want to injure your back no matter how things are going!

Glad you missed spraying yourself!! We're embarking on a dragon's gold quet in te holodeck and we need Opal all healthy o accompany us. Saving you a spot in the company.

Oh, thank you for your concern, JJ. My chiropractor and his wife are having their first baby any time, so I will wait until our next appointment to see him. Yes, that spray could easily blind a person, so I was very, very, fortunate there. Sorry I have been absent from the holodeck. Will try to get over there this morning.

I had a wonderful evening. We went swimming at the lake as we do most evenings. It is a remarkably pristine lake -many miles long -encircled by mountains. We put our things under a huge tree and I skin dive.

Tonight when I came in from diving a family was picnicking nearby and shared huge slices of watermelon. So there I was was chest deep in this beautiful lake eating one of sweetest watermelons I ever had.

And I realized how happy I was right then. Those moments are so precious and rare when you are right there in the moment and happy.

There were no trans issues, no financial problems, no heat wave -nothing but my family the lake and the watermelon.

May each of you also find those little moments which renew your spirit and make you stronger to face your days and nights

Thank you Opal. All my life i have taken these mental snapshots to take out and enjoy. Moments of simple pleasure. last night will be added to the list.

Others include standing on a peak in Colorado with cold air whipping around me and a view of creation spread below. Feeling strong and happy because I had made a long climb to be there.

Or standing on the cliffs and watching the waves crash after a storm on a night when the full moon lit the scene so brilliantly that there were muted colors in the sea and trees and shining white in the spray and foam.

Or watching a pod of whales sound off Orcas island while I sat in a dinghy nearby.

And the oldest and first-a sunset blazing all brilliant red and gold across the sky. Mesmerizing and awe inspiring. It brought tears to my eyes.

There are a few more. Each seemingly so small and insignificant and yet so profound in their beauty and simplicity.

Does anyone else hold these special moments to remember forever?? Captured as vividly today as when they happened?

What do you save within to cherish??

My life is filled with mental snapshots, the most vivid to me are from my travels.

Sitting on a cliff near Makapuu point watching the moon outline a cloud in silver with its reflection dancing on the ocean between Rabbit Island and the light house on the main Island.

Seeing a Humpback breech in the channel between Lanai and Maui.

The stars from the darkened deck of a ship on a clear night in the South China Sea.

That moment when Lizzy and I first met and hugged.

The first time I ever saw Donna Jean's face as she came up the stairs and the hug that followed.

These are a few of my favorites, of course my first meeting with Sarah F and then Pammy were among these even though we were in male mode - irreplaceable moments.

Love ya,

Sally

Flying past Fujiyama in both summer and winter and being able to see that snow cap and then bathed in brown...

Micha-a big congratulatory hug to you and your toddler-those milestones feel so good.

And cuddle her tight-everyone always says how quickly they grow and change-and it is so true. I love the 10 year old grandchild I have today but oh what I wouldn't give to snuggle that laughing little girl who believed in faeries again!

Sally and DeeJay-your special moments gave me beautiful images that brighten a drab day. Thank you so much for sharing them!

Today I bought a kayak. Just a cheapie, it's for paddling about in still waters. Still optimistic about seeing the sun this summer.

Today I passed a bicyclist. And with my usual eye, I noticed how wonderfully full and round the person's figure was from the back. As I passed, I realized that the rider was male. I thought, "Wow am I jealous!" maybe that's the secret to a nice posterior - massive cycling. Sigh...

Hi Kat

Unless you are cycling on completely flat terrain it is also the secret to massive calves. Guess there's a downside to everything. I rode my bike all over Denver for years-even to work-faster and cheaper than a car or the bus. I ended up fit but with calves like a weight lifter and couldn't buy my beloved boots off the rack anymore even though I was otherwise an ideal size.. Since I was living as a natal female I wasn't best pleased.

Enjoy your kyak-it sound like such fun! I'll send you some of our sun if you'll take some of our heat-108 degree heat index-and we live up in the mountains- with at least another hour of rising temps ahead. I am however counting my blessings-tomorrow is supposed to be hotter!

happy trans birthday! I can't speak personally on the subject, but I hope hormones bring you the changes you're looking for <3
    • MaeBe
That’s super healthy, to see that something that becomes common has less effect on you and that you are able to decipher these feelings.   Sadly, this trend tends to only deaden good feelings as we tend not to let bad feelings attenuate the same way.   I have noticed less euphoria, but still feel the dysphorias that I have. Sometimes the good sneaks in and reminds me, but often time it’s just me seeing myself in the mirror and being comfortable about what I see when embracing my realized self. I may not get the same buzz I once did, but I don’t feel incongruous when looking at a more “drab” reflection.    Wishing you strength, you are amazing!

Congratulations! and Happy Trans Birthday @LittleSam! That is such a BIG milestone.  I can still remember walking out of my clinic with my first HRT presciption.  I was on Cloud-9.  Wishing you all the best in the start of your new Journey!

maebe thank you I try to be. I thank God for blessings, try to share them, beg forgiveness for my shortcomings n vow to try to do better...2 priests have said no, God doesn't condemn you just for being trans...but apparently evangelicals do   I shall vtry dear thank you
    • MaeBe
Meet him at the being good to others part of Christianity. At the heart of it, there are excellent tenets of the faith. Those that condemn are judging, Jesus would have us be selfless; stone casting and all that. Are you a good person? Are you putting good into the world? If your gender is an issue for God, let God judge. In the mortal realm, let your actions be heard.

and just fi sweeten it..I'm catholic n he hasn't been for years..he's evangelical..whatever that is

Let’s stick to cite-able fact. Most of my posts have been directly in relation to LGBTQ+ rights as it pertains to P2025 and I have drawn direct links between people, their quotes, and their agenda. I have made reference to the cronyism that P2025 would entail as well, by gutting, not cutting, broad swathes of government and replacing it with “conservative warriors” (I can get you the direct quote, but rest assured it’s a quote). All this does is constantly force the cogs to be refitted, not their movement. To say that agencies have directly defied a President is a bit much, the EPA did what Trump told them to do at the direct harm to the environment, the department of agriculture did the same by enacting the administrations forced move to KC which decimated the USDA.      How about Betsy DeVoss for Education? Or Bannon for anything? What about the revolving Chief of Staff position that Trump couldn’t stay filled? Or the Postmaster General, who did much to make the USPS worse?   Let’s not mix politics with racism, sexism, or any other ism. Because Trump made mainly white, male, appointments—many of them not, arguably, people fit for service—or unwilling to commit to term. I can argue this because, again, he’s up for election and will do what he did before (and more of the same, his words).   Please delineate how the selected diversity appointments have negatively affected the US, other than being black, women, or queer? Representation matters and America benefits when its people are inspired and empowered.

When I first started figuring things out, I got a lot more euphoria. Every time a friend would use he/they pronouns for me, I'd get this bubbly feeling, and seeing myself look masculine made me really happy. Dysphoric state felt more normal, so I guess I noticed the pain it caused me less.   Now, it's more just that my pronouns and such things feel natural, and dysphoria is a lot stronger -- I know what's natural, so experiencing the opposite is more jarring than everything. The problem is, most of my natural experiences are from friends, and I rarely get properly gendered by strangers, much less by my family. I've found myself unable to bind in months due to aches, colds,, and not wanting to risk damage.    It partially makes me want to go back to the beginning of my journey, because at least then I got full euphoria. I'm pretty sure it'll be like this until I medically transition, or at the very least get top surgery (you know all those trans dudes online with tiny chests? Not me, unfortunately). It's a bit depressing, but at least I know that, eventually, there's a way out of this.
    • RaineOnYourParade
Major mood, right here ^^^    I've listened to Lumineers to a long time (a major portion of it by osmosis via my mom), so that is almost painfully relatable
    • RaineOnYourParade
As for getting a button-up/formal pants suit, you can try to talk to her more -- Cis women in tuxes have worn tuxes in recent years, after all, (for example, Zendaya) so it can still be a relatively safe topic. For jumpsuits, I'd recommend going with a simple one with a blazer, if you can -- this'll make it look overall more masculine. There's a lot of good brands, but going for one without a lot of extra glitz on it will make it look less feminine under a blazer. I don't know many specific brands though since I usually just get my stuff from chain stores, sorry :<   When it comes to your hair, if you can't cut it, you can look up tutorials on fluffing it up instead. If you can pull it off, it can look a lot shorter and more androgynous instead!
    • RaineOnYourParade
As far as I'm aware, he wasn't -- he just sometimes wore skirts, which was why it was a question in the first place.   In my opinion, part of that is because of the way press spares attention on issues like that. As a bit of a true crime nut and what I see: Child predator cases' (and cases of a sexual nature in general) press focus on those with an AMAB perpetrator generally, and very rarely are AFAB perpetrators given much press time or even getting tried due to a whole bunch of issues I'm not gonna get into. Because of this, when you see these types of cases and a boy is the victim, it's almost always a queer person who is the one who committed a crime that gets press. Therefore, with the amount of cases seen with this type of perpetrator (and due to the fact "99% of queer people are not sexual criminals" doesn't attract eyes), the human brain can kind of naturally makes an association with it. It's not right, but it's also a fault I think falls partially on the media.   That's all my opinion, though!   This is extra confusing to me, as a feminine man is usually viewed as gay. If someone is refusing the acknowledge the existence of trans people, then gay would be the societal connection that comes after, I think. So, that sorta implies that trans women wouldn't be interested in women in the first place by those assumptions? Of course, trans lesbians exist (most trans women I know like women, actually), but it's a little ridiculous to me that people will deny trans people's existence, call all feminine AMAB people gay, and say that trans people are looking to peep all in the same breath.   Wow, this was a lot longer of a response than I was planning to write--

For one thing, the practice of putting into office wholly unqualified people simply because of racial, sexual or national characteristics.  It is no accident that Karine is a Haitian immigrant, Black and lesbian.  Kamala Harris is a Black female. Pete Buttigieg is gay.  Often you find that Biden explicitly stated that this is why he hired them, not because of competence, but because they checked so many boxes on his little list.  It makes a mockery of people and is a disservice to the US.
    • Abigail Genevieve
I am not sure why people are in favor of unaccountable agencies with bloated budgets and wasteful spending.
