Trans-Related Songs/songs That You Identify With

So many songs can speak to the feelings of being trans while not having been written about it at all, I have a new favorite that makes me think of our struggles to find 'what we have been searching for'.

Listen carefully especially about 'something taken from my soul', the very next line tells the whole story.

River of Dreams

Love ya,

Sally

I am what I am from La Cage Aux Folles - especially the Jogn Barrowman version. Makes me melt, as well as smile! The song is awesome, and his voice is just aural heaven.

I know it's not really Trans-related, but the song March Out Of The Darkness by Papa Roach can be interpretted that way.

I don't think that's what he meant when he wrote the song, but a lot of the lyrics fit with us. Here's some of the lyrics and how I chose to see them:

"we march out of the darkness" - coming out

"the pressure keeps on rising when the truth is what I'm fighting" - to me it's like coming out to myself, which is sometimes the hardest pat

"it feels like I'm still in a cage and I scream til I'm blue in the face" - that's how I feel sometimes, being trapped in a woman's body

"the mission is accomplished I'm ready for the change" - transition

I LOVE all things by Ingrid Michaelson and Eric Hutchinson these are my newest favs.

AND... Just today I found a woman that had "the Look" I have always loved. Her name is Alison Sudol and she's in A Fine Frenzy. I wish I looked like her, she's beautiful! Thanks for listening! :)

Green Day - King For A Day

I like Green Day and the song is about crossdressing

No Doubt - Just A Girl

I'm just a girl, what's my destiny?

What I succumbed to is making me numb

I'm just a girl, my apologies

What I've become is so burdensome

Adam Lambert - Aftermath

Wanna scream out

No more hiding

Don't be afraid of what's inside

I can't believe no one's mentioned Why Can't I be You? by the Cure. That song rocks.

Hell Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Go The Cure! ;)

I Do by Placebo.

Actually, they're a pretty cool band. My favorite, I think. Out of the main three members, two are gay and one of those is androgynous.

Long time no see all :3 Been through alot since my last visit....

Recently it's been Reflection from Mulan and Come What May from Moulin Rouge. The latter mainly because of the declaration of undying love - something I hope I am fortunate enough to have as and when I decide to transition.

+1 to LOLA & ob-la-di ob-la da.... british invasion ftw

But yeah... um! "Lights On" by the Pierces (amazing band):

Make love with the lights on baby

Tell me what you see

Clear the bed to lie on darlin'

Make a mess of me

uhh... "vintage clothes" by paul mccartney ("who cares if we look like a girl or boy... what we are is what we wear")

and for some reason "traffic light" by the ting tings ("you've come so far, but back to the start... let's not have a breakdown... oh now baby don't miss read the signs, if you turn the key then things will turn out fine" etc)

AND just to give you all cuteness overload, listen to the lyrics of this one:

I'm not a hip-hop fan, but Katasrophe does some interesting songs about his experiences as a transman. "The Life" and "Man Enough" are two that come to mind. You can find them on Youtube, but I won't post a link because I'm not sure if the content is appropriate for all the age groups who visit this site.

.

Well, of course...

"LOLA" by the Kinks!

Donna Jean

Yep!

Guess it's a generational thing. Lola is IT!!! Far and away, THE SONG about issues like these.

Many of you will take offense, but Aerosmith's "Dude Looks Like a Lady" just totally kicks a mean butt, and I just love it!

B) Lacey

The Kinks' "Lola" is The Bomb.

2 songs come to mind actualy

Path I Walk- Boondox

We walk all alone

Always on our own

Get lost on the way

And sometimes need

Mad World- gary jules

Children waiting for the day they feel good

Happy birthday, happy birthday

And I feel the way that every child should

Sit and listen, sit and listen

This particular song greatly describes the strained relationship I've had with my mother since I've "come out" and transitioned. It's called "Our Great Divide" by Tarja Turunen, and I cry every time I listen to this song.....

Dark blue sea, calling me.

Songs of waves, keep me safe.

Sky's so deep, there's no end

the moon still asleep, the bed of stars for me

How can I see through your eyes my destiny?

I fall apart.

You bleed for me.

How can I see through your eyes our worlds collide?

Open your heart, to close our great divide.

I don't care if it hurts

I want you to notice when I'm not around

I Can't believe no one has mentioned "I Don't Wanna Be Me" by Type-O Negative

I identify with the album "Darkest Days" by Stabbing Westward

"Sex Changes" by the Dresden Dolls

For whatever reason, people seem to interpret the song as saying "sex changes (you)," bu if you listen to the song, it seems to be clearly referring to the term that we all are familiar with. As well, I like their song "Girl Anachronism" and the more popular "Coin Operated Boy" which people also often misinterpret.

Honestly, I don;t think I have many songs to do with trans.
I did enjoy that one song that Against Me! released earlier from their upcoming album, but other than that, I got nothing.

As far as songs I myself identify with, most of the tracks off of my avatar.

I feel a kind of deeper connection to a lot of Pagans Mind's songs too because sometimes honestly, I don't feel like I'm from this planet.

It's not trans related but one that I can relate to is Edit Me by Twin Atlantic

"It's dynamite when you bridge just how you think to how you live

They say it comes with age, we can prove them wrong

Cos you know it's not right, you can feel it in the words they say

They think they're the right ones

You can't edit me"

It could practically have been written for me!
