First Day Out As Myself

I plan on next Friday being my first day out as myself. I have dressed up to go to see my therapist but never to go out shopping and get my nails done. I plan on getting gel nails or acrylic nails. I don't know which one yet.

I am taking the day off so I can go give blood and decided it would be a good day to go out as myself and experience everything as Sarah only.

I plan on wearing my skinny jeans with a pink polo and my newly purchased cardigan. Don't worry Dee Jay I will take pictures. I am also going to do my make-up.

I am excited about doing this the first time and scared at the same time. I can wear girly jeans or sweaters but going out full on make-up and clothes is something new for me.

Since I don't own a wig and don't plan on ever owning one I will have to figure out how to comb my hair that looks more feminine. The curls are girly but the top and sides is what I will have to work with. If anyone has any suggestions just let me know and I will see if I know how to do that.

That's awesome Sarah !

I will be thinking of ya a week from today as I drive home from Mom's.

I still get a big rush going out as myself as I am only a young girl, and still only to my therapist. Your story give me more courage.

I hope you have special day, enjoy the nail work !

Peace and Love

Hi Sarah,

Well, if Target had their way, you would be wearing one of their cute hats. I guess the question is how do other women in your area style their hair?

I part my hair down the middle with some combed towards the front. Do you have enough in the back to band in a pony tail? I am probably the worst one to give you hair advice.

You will do just fine!

Opal

It is for blood work because my E levels were so high last time. They cut me back on my dosages and now re-checking to see if they are back to normal.

Good Luck Sarah. I hope you really enjoy yourself. I've gone out many times as female, even though I only pass marginally because I'm pre-HRT. There really isn't that much to be scared of for almost everybody will ignore you. That's because they are in their own world.

As far as hair goes, I wore a wig for awhile. It made me feel more confident and felt I passed better. You might think of getting your hair styled at a beauty salon. At the very least you can get some ideas on how you want to look.

Just try to be confident and enjoy being a woman since you already know you are one.

Ok, good. I read that and was immediately going to post that if you're taking finesteride, you cannot give blood.

Have a great time on your day out!!!

Have a wonderful day Sara!

I like the suggestion to have your hair done in a salon. Not only would it probably feel great but they have all those hairstyle books to go through and the stylist can give you tips for ways to style it as you grow it out. Most of the places in malls and such take walk-ins and salons are pretty much friendly if you decide to reveal your situation so they can make suggestions for styles that can be switched from female to male mode.

Whatever you decide-enjoy every moment and share all the details with us afterward.

Dear Sarah,

I have been watching your progress in person for a little while now and as of our last meeting I have to say that you should have no trouble passing.

As to your hair, their are a lot of natal females in your area that wear their hair a lot shorter than yours, just wear something in it like those decorated bobby pins that you can get at Walgreen's and be confident - that is all that you will need, girlfriend.

So go out, have a great day, take some pictures fir Dee Jay and the rest of us but most importantly - do not give your number to any of the guys that try to hit on you.

Have a wonderful time, Sarah. Nail salon's are a lot of fun, and relaxing too. I came out to my nail "artist" in male mode,

and went back in Carolyn mode, and she nearly had a heart attack when she realized it was me.

There are so many cute short hair styles, I'm sure you can find a lovely one.

I can't wait for your report, and your pics! Go Sarah!

Just relax and be yourself, and enjoy your day

of complete girlifying. I would consider the

acrylic nails that way you can have them filled

about every three weeks or so,and it's cheap to

maintain them. I love going to my nail salon, the

owner is so sweet and fast and I love the whole

experience.Doing fingers and toes for Christmas,

that way I will feel super girlie and pretty.

As for your hair, think gel and finger fluff the

curls,once done,leave it alone.Trust that you

look great, and _____Own The Look. Confidence

goes a very long way in how the world see's you.

KNOW you look act and carry yourself as a woman,

and that is what the world will see...a woman, period.

And most of all,Have Fun Sarah.

Okay I have figured out how I will have my hair on Friday. Here is a picture.

I think this is the best possible solution considering my hair isn't long enough to do too much with.

Emotional stability is a personality trait that describes how calm, collected, and emotionally consistent someone is. It's the opposite of neuroticism, which is a personality trait that describes how much negative affect, emotional volatility, and mood fluctuation a person displays.

I'm lucky. I have both. For therapists, the Psychology Today is a good source, as is the resource section here at TP.  BOTH are soi vital.

Hello @The Lake, Welcome to our forum. I’m intrigued by your introduction and would enjoy reading more about your backstory. We all have very unique journeys and yours is not one I have come across often. As you become more comfortable with our community, maybe you could share more aout how your gender identity evolved, what difficulties you confronted and endured and what some of your successes were along the way. Also, do you see yourself involved in a future transition of roles, presentation, social, physical, or something else entirely? There is never any pressure to share a thing here. So feel free to share as little or as much as you like. We are a very open-minded nonjudgmental group who enjoy learning new things from our members.   Warmest Regards, Susan R🌷

Welcome @gizgizgizzie, It’s nice to have you in the fold. We are a very diverse group so you’ll fit in just fine. Right now, society at large is getting bombarded with misinformation, bait and switch tactics, propaganda and lies so it’s no wonder no one can get it right. I don’t come out and explain things about my gender identity as much these days but when I do it’s amazing how little these people know about our transgender community in 2024.   Thanks for sharing a little about yourself. I hope to learn more about you as you become more acclimated and active within our forum.   Warmest Regards, Susan R🌷

Speaking of hair days…for me, hair has always been the part of my presentation that had the most impact on my overall view of myself. It was much worse for me earlier in my transition. I enjoy experimenting with new hair styles so once in a while, I’ll end up completely redoing my hair because it somehow reminded me of my old self. Self image is a strange yet powerful thing and it take a lot of time and effort to change it.

I am working on a solo music project and I decided a few years ago I wanted to do female lead vocals. I’ve played instrumental music most of my life and sung as a male, mostly backup and harmony though, but very little lead. I never liked my male voice. People always clocked me as female on the phone so I’ve always had a more feminine voice. A little over two years ago I started training my female voice to sing and it has been a lot of fun, though I’m still not where I want to be. Consistency is my biggest challenge.    I try to make practice fun or I don’t stick with it. So I do a lot of singing along with my favorite cover songs…I use a vocal fader, and practice with a microphone, and often just record the blend with my phone to evaluate where I’m at and see what I need to work on. If possible I find karaoke mixes on YouTube where the lead vocal is removed and sing along to that.   I’m not sure I can offer much advice, I just do a lot of listening back and adjusting my technique and practicing until I like how I sound. Just a lot of practice. It will probably take longer than you hope to get where you want to be :) High notes will be challenging but every singer has to build up the muscles and technique and breath support and stretch the vocal chords and then their range will expand. My higher notes are in tune, but often sound strained, probably because they are. Some of that is tensing up in anticipation which I need to train myself out of doing.    I think “trans voice lessons” on YouTube is one of the best channels for tips and theory. Once you’ve found your singing voice and have that relatively consistent, pretty much it’s just working on technique, styling, articulation, range, like any singer would.
