A Trans Group

We had our monthly LGBQT meeting, the 'trans support' subgroup - last night. I took Dee Jay with us for the first time, as Sally had been there before. We had two new people - MTF - we had not met, and a husband and wife who were there trying to learn how to support their son - FTM (he wasn't there). But the others there we knew - old friends now - more the guys than us girls, but we all know and love each other now.

And we had the usual 'round the room' thing, where each would just talk about what was going on. It's not group therapy, and it is open to just about anything.

Well - most mentioned Christmas / Hanukkah. Those of us more through transitioning tended to report how surprised we were to enjoy the Holidays - some as our true selves for the first time. BUT a few were saying how bad the Holidays were.

Thinking back on it? Those most unhappiest - they had spent the time alone.

Socialization seems to trump the concerns over acceptance issues - at least during the Holiday season.

BUT

I think it may be like that all year long. We trans people need to have someone around - just human contact of some sort. I suggest if it can't be family, or friends, it can be other trans people.

We need to be happier in 2011.

I have spent a number of Christmases with people I had no interest in or completely alone - this year I was in my new home with my best friends - Lizzy and Dee Jay - it was the best Christmas I ever had - presents were to say the least secondary.

The feelings of companionship, acceptance, friendship and love are incomparable to any other feelings, capable of healing even the most fragile and damaged among us.

I made the best of it this year that I could. It was after Christmas that was really bad for me.

I agree though that it would be beneficial to have someone close that can comfort you. I am missing that key ingrediant to that answer right now. I do have wonderful friends on here that have helped me a lot and for that I am grateful.

Yes, I was thankful that I had my family around for the holidays, though I will always miss those who are gone, but at the same time it was those very family members who were driving me up the wall and to acts of not so quiet desperation. (Even in desperation I can't be quiet. Suffer in silence? Moi? Next life maybe)

Even so I am thankful for them. And my busy friends.
