Terrible Things Cis-Folks Say

It isn't so much the poor we have with us always as the ignorant.

The funny thing about social media is how easy it has made it for some people to display what ignorant jerks they really are.

There have been shallow jerks since the dawn of civilization. Same type of person who take out a personal ad and say 'No fatties.'

I would not think about it at all - so many people are quick to say what they think - they just fail to think first.

Everyone isn't like that - just a few more than the world needs.

are you female by birth?

As people become more aware of trans folk, I imagine such questions will become more commonplace.

Awareness is quite the double edged sword.

Maybe so, but directed to Trans or Cis......it's still blatant ignorance ...

Agree with KimberlyF quoted above.

The hard part about growing up and facing "the adult world" is whenever you realize that there are LOTS of people out there like this guy. Do all you can to avoid them. There comes a time when you realize that you will NOT change them ... ever. Water is wet. The wind blows. The Pope is Catholic.

THESE PEOPLE A SCHMUCKS.

There are some truisms that really ARE true ... such as these. Ignore them when you can. Appease them when you can't. Do not confront them. By their very natures, they will engage you.

Good luck & much peace.

The question does seem pretty insensitive, but in exactly what way is it ignorant?

Sorry:

b : resulting from or showing lack of knowledge or intelligence...

Examples of IGNORANT

1. He is an ignorant old racist.

Well, they're not ignorant; by asking that question, they're showing that they know about the existence of the, I don't know, "trans phenomenon." What they are is a jerk, plain and simple. Mark them down as such and move on, leaving them standing forlornly on the side of the road, I say.

Oh I don't know, but being ignorant 'seems' to cover a lack of understanding about human nature and social conditions. And a complete ignorance of women.

"I'd bang you" is so wrong on so many levels... trans related or not.

But maybe not the best term here. It seems a certain hole (in the south end of a north bound donkey) might be more appropriate.

Ignorance is just about the highest insult in my lexicon when applied to an adult who is old enough to know better but hasn't bothered to learn. It encompasses many things on many levels.

Empathy, compassion, basic rules of human behavior are all learned and could you argue that this guy has learned them?

He is ignorant and assuming he is actually old enough to have a Facebook account, is old enough to know better. I will grant you that he may actually be a 10 year old posing as someone older in which case he is instead just a jerk in training.

If he is over 10 then for this kind of ignorant one can hope that life teaches him the hard way what he has refused to learn otherwise.

Yes, yes, that's what "jerk" was standing in for, I just couldn't phrase it quite as well!

Yes, one could say ignorance and jerk are interchangable terms. There are a few around here who display those characteristics.

It seems one can be intelligent, very knowlegeable to be a jerk...one who is ignorant, isn't necessarily a jerk cause they don't know better.

Intelligent, knowledgeable people can be the most ignorant of all because they sometimes think that they already know it all and close their minds. And once a mind is closed or an eye blind to other's truths then true ignorance will follow.

I have to side with JJ on this.

A jerk is a jerk, regardless of being knowledgeable or ignorant. And a knowledgeable person can certainly be ignorant at the same time. Ozzie Osborn knew the Alamo was a sacred shrine in Texas where so many lost their lives, both sides. He still took out his penis and urinated on the side of the chapel - that makes him not only a jerk but a selfish, self-serving a****** [and fill in the blanks here] with no sense of social responsibility and no moral restraint of any kind. He was escorted out of town. He was lucky he wasn't shot.

And this TOPIC was on this jerk who said he would gladly 'bang' a transgirl, one of our members!

For GAWD sake why are we having this argument on the meaning, and the intent of the usage of the word 'ignorant?'

Aren't we kinda missing the main point?

Kinda ignorant behavior - grin.

Just kinda...

I think we just got off into a discussion of what comprised ignorant to us and not really that particular jerk. He isn't worth discussing.

And defining ignorant seemed interesting to me.

Sorry people-I didn't realize it would bother anyone.
