I've Come Out To My Wife!

Wow... I just came out to my wife, and I'm still in one piece!

She was amazingly understanding, did not get upset, cried just a

little (As usual I cried much more... I am the 'sensitive' one of

the relationship), and is still affectionate with me. It turned out

better than I thought, and much, much better than I feared!

She said that she knew I was 'trans' for a long time, but she didn't

think that I would actually do anything about it.

I told her that I would like to develop my transition plan with her

help so that we can make it work out for the family. Her main

concern is how can we afford it at all? That is my main question

now too. (Whereas before just coming out was a big concern... it's

so good to have that off my chest!)

She's also fearful of how we would survive if transitioning causes me

to lose my job... another fear that I share, but one that I think we

can deal with if / when it comes along. Together we will develop a

back-up plan just in case.

I'm so happy and relieved! Yea!

Thank you all for your well wishes! Tonight I will be going to the Gender Identity Center of Colorado for the first time. I'm very nervous, mainly because I'm such a shy person, but also excited to continue my journey down the path of self discovery and hopefully successful transition.

Wow! that's great! It's great that you two are working it out and thinking together on how to make the transition smooth as possible. Back-up plan is totally recommended too....looks like you're on the right track!

Also, as far as financing, lots of insurance do reduce the costs for the medications, therapist visit, and doctor's visit...which is the majority of the cost early on. If you have light skin and dark hair, laser's a lot cheaper than electrology in the beginning and you might want to go with laser for the first 4 times. Laser treatment usually ranges from $130 to $220. (Mine's was about $160 each time). My finances are really tight too...so those are my sugggestions
