Testosterone and Time

We was watching this show on some channel. . . not really watching, but every other channel was out, so this was on. While looking for a movie to watch I thought I caught this doc on the program sayin something about testosterone naturally increasing in potency or amount or somestuff, the older a man gets. The program was about prostates and the cause of most problems men have with theirs as they get older. Doc wha's'isname says that the increased effect of testosterone is what caused the prostate to expand or grow or whatever, but of course that's not what caught my ears.

So anyone know anything about this? Does testosterone really get more powerful in time? I mean, I got this uh. . . stuff goin on and I'm quite unhappy with what it's done to me, so if it gets worse I may have to reconsider my own descisions about hormones.

That's what I've always heard as well. But at 51 mine tops out the scale. My Doc is quadrupling my spiro to counter that. I'm going to ask him if an orchi would be wise (and more importantly, covered)

Hi Micha,

I think you may be talking about DHT increasing with age. Best thing you can do is google it. DHT is the one that causes prostate problems and hair loss (on your head) I think. It is different the the T that we normally think of and talk about. I really do not know very much about the technicalities of this stuff. Good luck.

Kind of like the internet-lots of what you hear on tv isn't true. The only standard calling for truth is truth in advertising and anyone who has watched an infomercial knows how easy it is to use enough weasel words to still make black seem white. like the fake psych who talks on Fox about trans being mental I suspect this doc you heard was way off base or twisting something. Everything I have read says that T production falls with age. Actually peaks between 18 and 22 or sometime in that range I have read.

But there is research that indicates for those who inject T that the more you inject-up to a certain point where it can convert to estrogen in female bodied people-the more effective it becomes as the body heightens its sensitivity to T. There is a debate starting in the FtM community about different methods of hormone therapy because of it but not enough research to make a change yet for most Drs..

I've never heard that T becomes more "powerful" in older males......

That's a new one on me......
