Unplanned success at work

I've been slowly coming out to the waitresses at the restaurant where I work for the last month or two, but I've been dreading coming out to my bosses.

Well today I told the final waitress and pretty much the moment I left the room she told one of my two bosses. My bosses at the restaurant where I work are the head chef and maitre d', and she told the latter. It was the head chef's day off.

I got pretty much only three responses from him.

1) Questions about how much this all costs me

2) Questions about health risks

3) "Make sure to tell me when you get your name changed, or your paycheques won't be able to go through".

None of those were bad reactions! As for the head chef, well he's a bit more reactionary and judgmental. However I've seen him "fire" people just because he was in a bad mood, which the maitre d' then "cancels out" so to speak, so I think the one with the real power to control my employment is the one who now knows already and isn't freaking out, rather than the head chef.

What that waitress did was rather thoughtless, but I'm glad she did it. This was a huge step that would have taken me far longer to accomplish if I'd done it my own way.

I can now officially count on one hand the number of people I still need to come out to before I begin RLT!
